Blood Queen Reborn

Chapter 243: Put Your Heart Into It

  • Next Chapter

Luke and Layla were locked in a stalemate, fist against fist. Layla slid backwards against the floor, struggling to keep her grip. Sneering, Luke suddenly retracted his fist and slammed it into Layla, sending her flying against the wall.

“I thought this was supposed to be between us,” Luke panted, “You’ll just have to be grateful I don’t like an audience.”

Layla scrambled up against the wall, and opened her palms as she summoned her Replicatibow. She nocked a stunning arrow and fired. Luke swatted the arrow out of the air, flashing near his face.

It successfully stunned him. Even if it was for a split second, it was enough for Erin. She swung two blood swipes and charged in with her sword.

[HP 49/95]

Luke stumbled back, and tried to focus his MC back into his body. However, he was quickly running out. This had sent him in a state of panic. Never did he expect to lose to two low levels, not after ruling over his two roommates for so long, and certainly not after he nearly won against Erin.

“How much does he know!?” Layla called out, drawing another arrow.

She wasn’t sure if she should hold back her ghoulish strength, even if a part of her wanted to let loose.

The question was a little vague as to what Layla wanted with the information, but Erin knew what she meant.

“You don’t need to hold back,” Erin replied.

Layla smiled, and fired another dazzling shot.

Luke tried to dodge, but the area of effect was too fast to escape from.

With only 3 seconds to spare, Erin sprinted around Luke, slashing and prying off more of his silvery skin. At the same time, she managed to get 2 more hits in.

[3/5 successful hits]

[30% agility boost]

[Agility: 43]

Most of Luke’s silvery skin had shattered, and Erin could tell she was officially faster than him. If she had to take a guess, his speed was around the system’s 30s, including the bonus from his king tier boots.

Despite the odds, Luke smirked, “If you wanted me to get shirtless, then all you had to—”

A flaming arrow struck his leg, and he fell to his knees. Unfortunately for him, he no longer had enough MC to shield his body.

“Stay down!” Layla shouted in disgust.

Erin sprinted and kicked his head, flinging him back a few feet. He laid there motionless for a few moment, and a new system notification appeared in Erin’s vision.

[You have defeated Luke]

[Reward: Instant level up]

[You are now level 18]

Leveling up granted two additional free stat points, which Erin would have to figure out where to put later. What was different, however, was the new quest appearing in her vision.

[Quest: Reach level 20 for next evolution]

[Reward: Next evolution vampire noble]

[Additional rewards will be revealed once rank has been reached]

‘So the next step to getting strong is 2 levels away,’ Erin thought, but it didn’t seem as close as it initially appeared.

Her current EXP requirements said she needed another 256,000 EXP to level up once, and this one experience was enough to make Erin not want to find other instant level up targets. All Erin wanted to do was get out of there. She leveled up, and that was all that mattered.

“I’m sorry,” Layla suddenly spoke, her voice trembling, “I knew I shouldn’t have risked my life but— I just had to save you.”

“You have nothing to worry about,” Erin replied firmly.

The two girls stared into each other’s eyes, sharing a quiet moment of understanding. Then, the most shocking moment happened.

Erin smiled.

Unfortunately, that smile would only last a second as Luke wasn’t done.

He struggled to sit up, but when he did, he spat out blood, and glared at Erin.

“You… You… You’ll still have to… Have to listen to me— I know your secrets—”

At first, Erin was considering using her influence skill to make him forget she was a vampire. But before she could act, Layla stepped between the two.

She charged, and dug her sharpened teeth into his neck, ripping a piece of flesh off. Luke tried to fight back, attempting to shove her off, but Layla simply bit his hand in response.

“Wait— No— NO—” Luke screamed as she ripped off his thumb, then spat it out.

His voice tore as he was exposed to a level of pain he was not used to. Usually, his hardening ability meant that he was always safe whenever danger was around. What he never expected was for his ability to fail due to a lack of MC.

“PLEASE— PLEASE I SWEAR I WONT TELL—”

Erin shoved a kitchen towel in his mouth, silencing him. It was best if no one overheard his cries.

The next few moments were gruesome and bloody. Erin never took pleasure in the death of humans, so she looked away to give Layla some privacy.

But just this once, she enjoyed listening to his muffled cries.

Meanwhile, Logan heard everything on the spider bot, and took immediate measures. Hacking into the military network, he altered the logs of Layla and Erin’s location to state they were in his room for the past hour.

Then, he rolled over to a white metallic looking suitcase in his room, and pressed his palm on it. It wasn’t an ordinary suitcase, but rather, an advanced cleaning robot. When activated, it opened up, and changed into a levitating robot with 6 limbs. The robot flew out of the room, executing the preprogrammed commands Logan sent it.

Erin and Layla didn’t need to worry about the cleanup. What the robot couldn’t handle were dead bodies. He could post-pone its discovery by changing Luke’s watch to register a fake heart beat, but the school faculty would eventually find a corpse lying in the dorm room, and that came with its own set of questions

—

The insides of Luke’s chest were a mess of torn muscle and shattered bone, but what remained was his heart.

Layla reached in and tore it free. She shoved the still warm mass into her mouth. What ensued was the most delicious flavor that she’d ever tasted, intoxicating, rich, and alive.

Getting up, Layla turned to her roommate, a whirlwind of emotions running through her, but before she could parse any of it, an agonizing burning spread throughout her body. It was like each and every one of her cells were lit on fire.

Turning around, Erin watched in shock as Layla fell to her knees. A guttural groan of pain escaped Layla’s mouth. For a brief moment, she feared Layla was injured from one of Luke’s attacks, but the system proved her wrong.
