Chapter 215: My Turn

When hearing that Erin and Quinn were making a pact to watch over the shelter one day, Layla couldn’t help but smile internally. That kind of determined confidence is what she loved in a person.

Soon, it was time for Erin’s team to go through the portal, and the moment they stepped inside of the swirling white light, they came out of the other end right where the portal room was.

There, they could see several medical staff and military officials on standby, including Hayley, just in case there was a massive threat that would follow them through the portal.

A few students came up to the medical people to get a few of their injuries treated, but there was nothing too serious to be fixed, just a few scrapes and cuts. Once that was dealt with, they were told to head back to their homeroom teachers, and another head count was done.

Then, one of the Generals, Nathan, commanded the soldiers near the portals to ’cut the link’ and they were turned off.

Once that was done, it was taken away to be stored, and removed from student use. On another day, the military would send stronger soldiers when they were more prepared.

While the students were waiting for the next command to be issued, Erin’s team looked over to Cia, and Fex to Peter.

"Something’s going to need to be done about them," Fex whispered, "If they’re the kind of person that would blabber about vampires, then they would need to be silenced to keep our secret."

"Me and Layla both have Cia as a roommate," Erin stated, "When we go back, I’ll figure out if she truly does know about us."

Although Fex was talking about both Peter and Cia, Erin only thought he was talking about Peter.

Nathan stepped onto a quickly made earth podium, and began to make an announcement.

"Listen up everyone! There is no need for the students to stay here any longer. Feel free to head back to your rooms, and in the morning, we shall inform you of your schedule next week. We might even send a message out tonight, so keep an eye out for it on your wristwatch."

"As for all homeroom teachers, I would like you to stay behind for now."

The doors of the portal room were opened, allowing the students to head back to the dorm rooms. Just as the sun began to set on the orange portal planet, it was well into the night on earth.

Erin, Layla and Cia left for their dorm room, which would naturally lead to Peter, Quinn and Fex to head back to their own. This left Vorden as the odd one out, as he didn’t share a dorm room with anyone in his team.

"Even when we’re away from that awful island, we’re still alone," Raten scoffed as he lay on the floor of their shared mind, "What’s worse is that none of the girls in the team seem to be interested in you."

Vorden turned around in the chair, "We didn’t come out here just to pick up chicks."

Raten glanced at him from the corner of his eyes, then continued to stare at the ’ceiling’, "Oh I’m well aware, but what’s even the point? We leave one fortress and end up in another, and for what?"

"We’re doing it for him," Vorden stressed.

Raten sighed, and muttered, "And what about us? I wanted a life too."

"What was that?"

Raten got up, "Oh nothing really! Just want a hand at the controls."

Vorden glared at him, "They don’t know our situation."

"And who’s fault is that?" Raten raised an eyebrow.

"I’m trying to keep us presentable!" Vorden said, then gestured to his environment, "This isn’t easy to explain to anyone."

"That’s not what I meant," Raten snarled, and clenched his fists, "I want to talk to someone who isn’t you!"

Those words cut into Vorden deeply, and he was about to say something, when a voice outside the body started speaking.

"Hey Vorden," Quinn said suddenly, which startled them both. They both thought he left already.

Immediately getting on the chair, Vorden nodded, "What’s up?"

They were still in the portal room, and most of the students had left already, leaving only Quinn, Vorden, and a few other stragglers behind. All the others were gone by now.

"I was noticing you weren’t really looking at anything and just staring at nothing," Quinn said.

Vorden nervously chuckled, "Haha, yeah, I was just thinking about... stuff."

"... Well," Quinn paused, "I want to know if you could continue to train me more."

Vorden put on a smile, "Sure! Want to practice with the earth ability?"

"Yes, but I also wanted you to train me in something else," Quinn said, "Erin told me about qi, and thought you could teach me it."

Vorden’s smile faltered, as he was a little confused, "If Erin knows qi, then why not ask her?"

"She’s hanging out a lot more with Layla recently, and with you knowing about our secrets, I’m sure you can realize that being around someone like her is... well," Quinn was struggling to find the right words, "You’re the only other person like me."

He nodded, but even though the words brought on a sense of connection, they also reminded him that they were distant.

’Quinn, if you knew just how different our backgrounds were, then you’d know why I have so much qi,’ He thought to himself.

"I can do that," Vorden said, "But be warned: I’m still new to qi myself."

Quinn smirked, "I learn pretty quickly from limited knowledge. How else would I have reached level 4 on a budget?"

Vorden patted Quinn on the back, leaving the room together, "That explains a lot. How about tomorrow we start our training session? Granted, that is if our schedule lets us."

He chuckled, and Quinn couldn’t help but smile, "Right, I forgot about that. See you tomorrow then."

The two went their separate ways, and Raten inside of their mind grumbled, and looked away, resting his hand on his chin.

’When I made those plans to leave the island, I wanted to have fun and have friends,’ Raten thought to himself, ’When do I get to have my turn?’
