Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 86: The Mountain of Pure Gold
Chapter 85: The Mountain of Pure Gold
Trousdale Estates, Los Angeles. Tuesday, 8:30 AM PST.
Mornings at Trousdale Estates always began with an almost sacred silence, but today, that silence carried a very literal gravitational weight.
The bright California sun bounced off the surface of the zero-edge pool, while inside the mid-century fortress, a high-level logistical operation was preparing for execution. This operation did not involve cameras, directors, or panicking music executives. This operation was purely financial in scale.
At the end of the Loma Vista Drive cul-de-sac, the Vanguard Security Solutions checkpoint was on maximum alert. Elias Thorne stood next to the matte-black Range Rover SUV, wearing polarized sunglasses and his flawless charcoal suit. In his ear, his tactical earpiece buzzed with reports from the rooftop overwatch team.
"Commander, target vehicle is two minutes from the perimeter," Bravo Two reported with military precision. "No tailing vehicles. Clear of media."
"Understood. Ready the hydraulic barricades," Thorne ordered calmly.
Moments later, the heavy, low rumble of a heavy-duty industrial diesel engine echoed through the canyon. A specially modified Brinks armored truck—devoid of flashy company logos and fitted with diplomatic license plates—crawled slowly up the steep incline. The truck was flanked by two heavily armed SUV escort vehicles.
The truck stopped exactly in front of the barricades.
Elias Thorne did not approach the driver’s window. He knew exactly the protocol for high-level, cross-border asset transfers. The passenger door of the armored truck opened, and a man in civilian clothes but wearing a Treasury Department badge stepped out, followed by an armed security agent.
"Elias Thorne, representing Tyrant Group LLC," Thorne introduced himself, his voice flat and professional. He handed over an encrypted digital tablet.
The man scanned the authorization code, verified Vanguard’s credentials, and gave a slow nod. "Zurich protocol confirmed, Mr. Thorne. Cargo is ready for transfer."
"Back the truck directly onto the slate motor court," Thorne instructed. "Ensure the tires do not scrape harshly. My client has an extremely low noise tolerance."
Inside the house, Alex Turner stood in the chef’s kitchen, leaning comfortably against the granite island. He was wearing his oversized uniform: a slightly faded black t-shirt, grey sweatpants, and white socks. In his hand was a cup of Ethiopian pour-over coffee.
He looked incredibly peaceful, as if he were waiting for the morning paper delivery instead of the delivery of a small nation’s net worth.
Across the kitchen island, Richard Vance Jr. looked like he was fighting off a panic attack. The corporate lawyer constantly wiped his forehead and adjusted his tie. On the granite counter, three clipboards lined up, containing asset transfer manifests and extremely thick insurance documents.
"Mr. Turner, I must re-emphasize how highly unorthodox this procedure is," Richard muttered, his voice trembling slightly. "Storing four thousand eight hundred and seventy troy ounces of physical gold bullion inside a private residential vault... this is an insurance nightmare. The Swiss brokers almost refused the transfer until I threatened to pull our entire portfolio."
"The fears of Swiss brokers are irrelevant to my comfort, Richard," Alex replied in his deep, lazy baritone voice. "Gold sitting in a bank vault is numbers on paper controlled by someone else’s operating hours. Gold sitting directly beneath my living room is a guarantee of absolute sovereignty. Besides, traveling to Switzerland requires a twelve-hour flight. I refuse to sit in an airplane seat for that long."
The heavy walnut front door creaked open smoothly.
Elias Thorne stepped in first, securing the area. Behind him, four Vanguard operators who had undergone federal-level background checks pushed two heavy-duty hand trucks. The hand trucks had been specifically fitted with thick rubber pneumatic tires and sound-dampening pads per Alex’s explicit instructions.
Resting on the hand trucks were six thick wooden crates branded with the Swiss red cross, bound by steel bands.
"Transfer is underway, Mr. Turner," Thorne reported, his voice no more than a loud whisper.
"Ensure the wheels on those carts don’t leave rubber scuff marks on the terrazzo floor, Thorne. Mike the contractor just polished it yesterday," Alex casually reminded him, taking a sip of his coffee.
From the direction of the living room, Jennifer Aniston and Mariah Carey walked over. Both had fully adopted the Slacker King’s lifestyle that morning, wearing comfortable, relaxed clothing. They stood near the Italian linen sofa, staring at the wooden crates being rolled into the house.
"Alex," Jennifer whispered, her eyes wide with disbelief at the sight. "Is that really..."
"Two million dollars in precious metals? Yes, Jen. That’s what it looks like before it gets turned into overpriced jewelry or watches," Alex answered casually.
The Vanguard operators pushed the incredibly heavy crates down the terrazzo hallway, past the dark charcoal-grey acoustic tracking room, and toward the utility access door. The one-foot-thick matte-black blast steel door guarding the subterranean vault had already been opened using Alex’s biometric scanner.
The hand trucks rolled slowly down the concrete ramp.
Alex, Richard, Jennifer, and Mariah followed behind, stepping down into the cool, profoundly silent concrete dome.
The LED floodlights flickered on, illuminating the room that now felt like the heart of a military fortress. The Vanguard operators positioned the wooden crates in front of the custom steel storage racks in Zone C. Using a specialized cutting tool, Thorne himself severed the steel bands and pried open the lid of the first crate.
The gleam of pure, heavy, and absolute golden light reflected from inside the crate, illuminating the dim vault.
The gold bars were arranged with mathematical precision. Each weighed 400 troy ounces (around 12.4 kilograms), stamped with the Zürcher Kantonalbank seal and an authenticity serial number.
Mariah stepped forward, subconsciously holding her breath. As a pop star surrounded by luxury since a young age, she was used to diamonds and platinum. But seeing pure gold in its rawest and most brutal form of fundamental wealth, radiating immense financial gravity, was an entirely different experience.
She reached out and touched the cold surface of a gold bar in the top row.
"This... this is incredibly heavy," Mariah murmured, trying to lift one bar slightly, only to be immediately startled by its sheer density.
"Gold has a density of 19.3 grams per cubic centimeter, Mary," Alex lectured smoothly, walking over and standing beside her. His [Business Management: Level Max] trait calculated the intrinsic value of the room in a matter of milliseconds. "This is not money. This is the load-bearing anchor of power. No inflation can eat away at it. No studio executive can freeze it in a court proceeding."
Richard Vance Jr. stepped forward, placing his clipboard on top of one of the crates, his hands still shaking slightly. He began matching the physical serial numbers of each gold bar with the shipping manifest.
"Mr. Turner, this handover is officially complete," Richard reported ten minutes later, after conducting a thorough inventory with Thorne’s assistance. "The physical assets fully correspond with the liquidity conversion from our operating accounts. Tyrant Group LLC now operates as a self-sustaining entity entirely independent of traditional United States banking."
"Good work, Richard," Alex gave a slow nod. "Now, I want all of you out of this concrete hole. The air is too dry."
Thorne and the Vanguard operators gave a respectful nod, immediately retreating back up the ramp toward the main floor. Richard packed up his documents, still staring at the mountain of gold with a sense of professional awe, before following the security guards up.
Alex stood in the center of the vault with Jennifer and Mariah.
"You really are never going to let the outside world touch you, are you, Alex?" Jennifer asked softly, crossing her arms as she looked around the Faraday mesh-lined room. She could feel the absolute absence of signal; the phone in her pocket was completely dead.
"The outside world is loud, Jen. And they have a tendency to impose unrealistic expectations on my sleep schedule," Alex replied, a lazy and incredibly handsome smile touching his lips. He pivoted and pointed toward the ramp. "Come on. Enough admiring these shiny bricks. Your call time at the Warner Bros. lot is ten o’clock, which means you have exactly forty-five minutes to drink your coffee and leave."
Jennifer rolled her eyes, but a bright smile adorned her face. "Alright, Mr. Micromanager. I’ll go get ready."
The three of them walked back up the ramp. Upon reaching the main hallway, Alex pressed his thumb against the biometric panel. The one-foot-thick steel door swung shut with a smooth hydraulic hiss, sealing the treasure in absolute darkness, locking the Slacker King’s financial fortress forever.
Right as the steel door locked, a clear, disembodied crystal chime echoed inside Alex’s cerebral cortex.
The translucent blue interface screen of the Superstar & Champion System manifested right in the center of his field of vision.
[DING!]
[Milestone Achieved: The Indestructible Bastion.]
[Description: The Host has successfully completed the physical, legal, and financial fortification of the primary headquarters. Absolute sovereignty has been established against all Tier-1 corporate entities.]
[Reward Calculation...]
[Reward 1: +50 System Points (SP). Current SP: 330.]
[Reward 2: Passive Trait Unlocked - ’The Sovereign’s Gravity’ (Level 1).]
[Effect: The Host’s aura now projects an innate, subconscious financial intimidation. Individuals interacting with the Host will inherently perceive the Host’s net worth and operational leverage as infinitely greater than their own, aggressively discouraging low-ball negotiations or hostile audits.]
Alex read the glowing blue text without altering his pace or expression. That new trait, The Sovereign’s Gravity, was effectively an anti-negotiation shield. No more cowardly agents or greedy executives would ever dare offer him a cheap deal. Their nervous systems would biologically prevent them from low-balling him.
"This system has an exceptional understanding of my need for efficiency," Alex murmured quietly to himself, dismissing the blue screen with a single, lazy thought.
He stepped back into the sun-drenched living room.
Near the front door, Elias Thorne was standing, holding the door open. Outside, one of Vanguard’s unmarked Range Rover SUVs was already idling and waiting on the slate motor court.
Jennifer emerged from the master bathroom, having changed out of her t-shirt into a simple silk blouse and designer jeans. However, there was no panic in her eyes. No rushed rhythm to her steps. Thanks to the "Aniston Clause" Alex had violently procured, she didn’t have to face a director’s wrath for arriving late, because she was scheduled to arrive with the swagger of a queen.
"I’ll be back at six-thirty tonight," Jennifer announced, pausing near the door. She looked over at Alex. "Are you and Mariah going to spend all day working on those tracks?"
Alex slumped into his beloved Eames lounge chair with a deep groan of satisfaction, kicking his feet up onto the ottoman.
"No," Alex declared definitively, closing his eyes. "Mariah has an obligation to review the logistics of her independent tour with Richard this afternoon. And I, personally, have an obligation to do absolutely nothing for four consecutive hours. It is an incredibly exhausting task, but someone has to do it."
Mariah, who had just walked into the kitchen to grab a bottle of mineral water, burst into laughter at the proclamation of laziness.
"Have a great shoot, Jen. And don’t let that director tell you what to do," Mariah called out from the kitchen.
"I won’t," Jennifer smiled. She looked at Alex, who was already half-asleep in his chair, an undeniable wave of affection gripping her chest. This man had given her absolute freedom.
Jennifer turned and stepped out of the house, entering the armor-plated protection of Vanguard’s Range Rover.
Inside the house, perfect silence descended once more. No printing presses running. No panicked phone calls from New York. No paparazzi camera flashes.
Alex Turner lay back in his chair, his body absorbing the California morning warmth and the cellular regeneration of his sanctuary. He had slapped the faces of Hollywood elites, conquered the Billboard charts, built the greatest analog tracking room in the world, and sealed millions of dollars in pure gold beneath his living room. And he did it all without ever taking off his sweatpants.
The Slacker King had fully constructed his empire. The first phase of his reign had ended in a landslide victory, and from this second onward, the entertainment industry was only allowed to operate under the absolute shadow of Tyrant Group LLC.
Alex exhaled softly, his heartbeat dropping into a meditative tempo, and fell fast asleep.
