Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 544: The Festival of Inertia and Wardrobe Rebellion
Chapter 542: The Festival of Inertia and Wardrobe Rebellion
The Pacific atoll had achieved a state of atmospheric nirvana.
After the flawless acoustic pacification of the unauthorized pollinator, the sprawling, wall-less master pavilion settled into unbroken, perfectly calibrated silence. The ambient climate control hummed at an unyielding sixty-eight degrees. Sunlight filtered through the frosted skylights in soft, golden geometries, intentionally engineered to avoid direct contact with human retinas.
In the dead center of the three-thousand-square-foot espresso cashmere tundra, the Monarch of Motionlessness lay in absolute, profound hibernation.
Alex Turner’s chest rose and fell in a slow, hypnotic rhythm. Swathed in an oversized, unbranded charcoal fleece hoodie and loose sweatpants, he embodied biological efficiency.
However, peace is a fragile construct when maintained alongside one hundred of the most historically glamorous women on the planet.
It began not with a siren, but with a sound far more terrifying to the Sovereign of Stasis: the crisp, high-frequency rustling of tissue paper and the sharp, percussive clack of hard-soled footwear against the teakwood deck.
Clack. Clack. Rustle.
Alex did not open his eyes, but his jaw visibly tightened. His central nervous system instantly flagged the auditory anomalies as a Category-A domestic threat.
"The perimeter has been compromised," Alex drawled lazily, his deep baritone rolling across the cashmere plains. "I am detecting the acoustic friction of rigid polymers and heavily starched textiles. Explain this betrayal."
Angelina Jolie, comfortably sprawled near his left shoulder in baggy grey sweatpants, propped herself up on her elbows. A wicked, immensely entertained smile broke across her face.
"It isn’t a betrayal, Mr. CEO," Angelina purred, gesturing toward the western corridor. "It is an aesthetic uprising."
Alex reluctantly lifted his eyelids by a fraction of a millimeter.
Marching onto the velvet floorboards were Mariah Carey and Salma Hayek. They were no longer enveloped in the mandated sanctuary fleece. Mariah was encased in a breathtaking, skin-tight, silver-sequined Haute Couture evening gown that caught the ambient light like a disco ball. Salma was wearing a fiercely structured, corset-bound crimson dress that pushed her posture into a rigid, breathlessly upright position.
Three silent Vanguard delivery drones followed, each carrying floating racks of pristine, freshly tailored tuxedos, silk ties, and leather Oxfords.
"Alexander!" Salma announced, her voice ringing with vibrant, theatrical enthusiasm. She attempted to put her hands on her hips, but the boning of her corset actively resisted the movement. "Wake up! Today is an official holiday! We checked the calendar, realized we haven’t attended a red carpet in three years, and decided to invent our own!"
"Behold," Mariah chimed in, striking a pose that clearly restricted her lung capacity. "We hereby declare today ’The Festival of Inertia.’ A celebration of our absolute victory over the entertainment industry. And to celebrate, we have imported the Fall collections directly from Paris and Milan."
Alex let out a long, heavy exhale that carried the spiritual fatigue of a man forced to explain oxygen to a drowning fish.
"A ’Festival of Inertia,’" Alex repeated, dissecting the phrase with surgical disdain. "You are celebrating stasis by intentionally binding your internal organs in metallic corsetry and draping yourselves in heavy, abrasive sequins. You have fundamentally misunderstood the definition of the word."
"We are celebrating in style, Alex," Jennifer Aniston called out, sitting up from the northern quadrant. She looked at the racks of clothing with a mixture of nostalgic longing and deep suspicion. "Though I have to admit, hearing Salma wheeze every time she inhales is slightly concerning."
"I am not wheezing! I am breathing elegantly!" Salma shot back, though she conspicuously took a very shallow breath. She marched to the Vanguard drones, snatched a crisp, white collared shirt and a lightweight, obsidian-black tuxedo jacket off the rack, and carried them to the center of the bed.
She dropped the garments squarely onto Alex’s chest.
"Put it on," Salma commanded. "You are the guest of honor. Wearing pajamas on a globally recognized—well, locally recognized—holiday is a profound insult to the calendar. You are going to wear a collar, you are going to put on a jacket, and we are going to drink vintage champagne like civilized royalty."
The pavilion fell dead silent. The Harem Council watched with bated breath.
Alex did not flinch. He did not reach for the tuxedo. He stared at the garments resting on his sternum as if they were toxic waste.
"Salma," Alex murmured, his voice dropping into a register of icy, absolute logic. "You are asking me to commit a kinetic tragedy."
"It is a shirt, Alex! It has five buttons!" Shakira yelled from the eastern wing, thoroughly enjoying the standoff.
"A button," Alex lectured seamlessly, entirely refusing to elevate his spine, "is a primitive, archaic mechanical fastener. To secure a button, one must engage the fine motor skills of the thumb and index finger, apply bilateral pressure, and force a rigid piece of plastic through a microscopic fabric slit. Doing this five times in succession is a catastrophic expenditure of finger cartilage."
Monica Bellucci let out a rich, husky laugh, resting her chin on her hand. "He is reviewing the act of getting dressed as a manual labor dispute."
"Furthermore," Alex continued, his dark eyes locking onto Salma’s rigidly upright posture, "let us examine the kinesiology of a collared shirt and a tailored jacket. A collar is essentially a localized chokehold. It restricts the natural expansion of the jugular vein. A tailored jacket violently limits the rotational mobility of the shoulder joints. If I wear this tuxedo, I cannot maintain my optimal reclining angle. My circulatory system will be actively compromised by Italian wool."

Alex ignored the faint blue text shimmering in the corner of his vision. The System had quietly accepted its role as a passive accountant for his laziness, validating his aversion to effort with cold, hard metrics.
"You are celebrating laziness with physical exertion," Alex concluded bleakly. "It is a paradox that shatters the structure of reality. I absolutely refuse to engage in a sartorial contradiction."
Salma threw her hands up, the stiff fabric of her crimson dress groaning under the strain. "So you are just going to lie there in a faded T-shirt while we look like goddesses?! You are ruining the aesthetic of the festival!"
"The aesthetic of a festival should not require you to hold your breath, Salma," Alex pointed out lazily. "Look at Mariah. She has not blinked in thirty seconds because her sequined gown is currently digging a trench into her collarbone."
Mariah Carey shifted uncomfortably, a tiny wince cracking her glamorous facade. "The sequins are... aggressively textured," she admitted in a hushed, reluctant whisper. "And my heels are beginning to sever the circulation to my toes."
"You have voluntarily trapped yourselves in fabric prisons for the sake of nostalgia," Alex sighed. He didn’t lift his head. He addressed the ambient air. "Vanguard AI. Acknowledge."
A soft, flawlessly equalized chime echoed from the hidden nodes in the bamboo ceiling.
"The Council desires the visual prestige of a royal gala, but they lack the biological endurance to survive the garments," Alex dictated smoothly, his breathing slowing back into its hypnotic baseline. "Eradicate the friction. Deploy the Holographic Haute Couture Array."
Angelina’s eyes widened. "The holographic array? Alex, you only used that for yourself during the European fashion crisis!"
"I am democratizing the illusion, Angie," Alex smirked lazily.
From the pavilion’s vaulted ceiling, dozens of microscopic, entirely silent optical projectors engaged. A soft, geometric grid of invisible laser light washed over the entire room, scanning the biometric coordinates of every woman present.
"Mariah. Salma," Alex commanded softly. "Take off the medieval torture devices. Put your sweatpants back on. The machine will handle your vanity."
Defeated by the agonizing, pinching reality of her corset, Salma practically tore the crimson dress off and tossed it onto a Vanguard drone. Mariah eagerly kicked off her stilettos, letting out a groan of pure, unadulterated physical relief as she slipped back into her oversized, hyper-breathable fleece hoodie.
They collapsed back onto the espresso cashmere, joining the rest of the Council in perfectly optimized, baggy-clothed comfort.
"Vanguard. Execute rendering," Alex murmured.
Instantly, the master pavilion’s visual reality fractured and rebuilt itself.
To the naked eye, the room was transformed into a breathtaking scene from a royal coronation. The holographic projectors flawlessly overlaid stunning, hyper-realistic digital gowns over the women. Jennifer Aniston appeared to wear a cascading, backless, diamond-encrusted slip dress. Monica Bellucci wore a regal, velvet Venetian gown that caught the ambient light with mathematical perfection. Salma and Mariah were restored to their earlier glory, their digital dresses glittering brilliantly.
And in the center, Alex Turner was seamlessly wrapped in a razor-sharp, custom-tailored obsidian tuxedo, complete with a crisp digital bow tie.
He looked like a lethal, untouchable cinematic icon.
But physically, none of them wore anything heavier than fleece. They were lying completely flat, sinking into the plush memory foam, utterly unbuttoned, unzipped, and unbothered.
"Oh my god," Jennifer whispered, looking down at her glittering, non-existent dress. She waved her hand through a digital fold of fabric. "It casts a shadow. It actually casts a shadow on the floor."
"It tracks your micro-movements and adjusts the light refraction algorithmically," Alex lectured softly, adjusting the collar of his physical T-shirt beneath the hologram of his tuxedo jacket. "You now possess the exact aesthetic formality you demanded, and you did not have to fasten a single button or endure a single sequin. Your circulatory systems are operating at peak efficiency."
Gillian Anderson let out a husky, breathless laugh, shaking her head as she admired her own digital emerald gown. "You automated fashion. You literally turned dressing up into a software update."
"I outsourced the burden of beauty to a supercomputer, Gillian," Alex corrected effortlessly. "Why suffer for fashion when a machine can simply project the illusion of your suffering for free?"
[System Notification] [Milestone Achieved: The Sartorial Paradox Resolved. The Host has successfully replaced physical vanity with digital apathy. Absolute comfort secured.]
Salma lay on her back, taking a deep, massive breath of air that fully expanded her lungs—a feat that had been biologically impossible in her corset just minutes prior. A wide, victorious smile broke across her face.
"Okay. You win," Salma sighed blissfully, closing her eyes. "The Festival of Inertia is officially a success. I look like a queen, and I feel like a couch cushion."
"A highly efficient combination," Alex agreed, closing his own eyes. "Now, please lower your voices. The visual prestige of this gala is acceptable. Still, if anyone attempts to generate acoustic friction by making a toast, I will turn off the holograms and banish you to the hardwood foyer."
Surrounded by the glittering, hyper-luxurious illusions of his fiercely devoted wives, the Architect of Apathy sank deeper into the chilled memory foam. The wardrobe rebellion had been crushed, the holiday had been optimized, and his sanctuary of stillness remained, as always, flawlessly intact.
