Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 520: The Sartorial Purge
Chapter 518: The Sartorial Purge
The physiological aftermath of the double cheeseburger mandate had left the Harem Council in a state of deeply sedated, grease-pacified euphoria. The afternoon sun cast long, lazy shadows across the open-air Lounge, turning the polished teakwood floorboards into a canvas of golden light.
However, the immense caloric satisfaction had inadvertently triggered a harsh, unforgiving physical reality.
"I cannot breathe," Salma Hayek announced.
She was standing near the edge of her velvet island, violently struggling with the hidden side-zipper of a stunning, form-fitting crimson sundress. "My diaphragm is trapped. I ate half a pound of ground chuck, and this zipper is actively suffocating my internal organs. This dress is a medieval torture device!"
Jennifer Aniston groaned in profound agreement, lying flat on her back and staring at the ceiling. She was wearing a pair of incredibly expensive, tailored designer denim jeans. "I feel like my femoral artery is being slowly crushed. Who packed these for a tropical island? My stylist sent three trunks of runway fashion. I am wearing denim in seventy-two-degree humidity. It is a biological nightmare."
In the center of the sprawling pavilion, the Oracle of Optimization lay perfectly horizontal. Alex Turner was swathed in a featherweight, dusk-grey bamboo-fiber tunic. His shadow-swept gaze drifted lazily toward the complaining women.
"You are wearing structured garments, Jennifer," Alex murmured, his deep baritone rolling smoothly over their sartorial distress. "Structure implies rigid architecture. Why would you voluntarily cage your lower extremities in heavy, woven twill cotton that offers zero lateral elasticity?"
"Because it looks good!" Jennifer argued, finally unbuttoning the top of her jeans with a sharp gasp of relief. "But you are right. I am done. I cannot wear this anymore. The Sanctuary has ruined me for high fashion."
Shakira bolted upright, her eyes wide with revolutionary fervor. "We need a purge. We have been holding onto these trunks like we actually intend to attend a red carpet. Bring them out! All of them! We are evicting the wardrobe!"
The spark of rebellion instantly caught fire.
For the next twenty minutes, the tranquil Lounge was transformed into a chaotic, highly energetic staging ground. The women dragged their massive, personalized wardrobe trunks from the residential suites directly into the center of the pavilion.
With ruthless, unadulterated enthusiasm, they began emptying the contents.
A glittering, fifty-thousand-dollar sequined evening gown was unceremoniously tossed onto the floorboards. A pair of sky-high, red-soled stilettos was chucked aside like hazardous waste. Silk corsets, structured blazers, tight pencil skirts, and heavily embroidered blouses rained down into a massive, colorful mountain of discarded Haute Couture right at the foot of Alex’s mattress.
"The runway is officially dead!" Mariah Carey cheered, tossing a highly restrictive, boned bodice onto the pile. "I am never letting a stylist strap me into one of these rib-crushers again! It takes two assistants just to tie the laces!"
"Alex," Monica Bellucci demanded, gracefully stepping over a pile of discarded Prada. She was holding a sheer, incredibly complex designer wrap. "You have dictated the rules of dining, the rules of media, and the rules of architecture. You must formally adjudicate this. We need a Sanctuary dress code. What stays, and what goes to the incinerator?"
Alex did not elevate his head. He looked at the towering pile of global fashion, analyzing the sheer, terrifying lack of comfort it represented.
"I will serve as the tribunal," Alex stated, his tone flat and uncompromising. "However, I will not evaluate these garments based on seasonal trends or aesthetic prestige. High fashion is a delusion sold to the insecure. I will judge this inventory purely upon two absolute metrics: the Friction Coefficient and Breathability. Present the evidence."
Angelina Jolie stepped forward. Her competitive instincts were fully ablaze. She reached into the pile and pulled out a breathtaking, skin-tight, emerald-green silk slip dress with a plunging neckline. She held it up against her body, striking a flawless, cinematic pose that highlighted every curve.
"You cannot condemn this, Mr. CEO," Angelina purred, her voice dropping into a sultry, challenging whisper. "It is pure silk. It is visually devastating. It is undeniably sexy."
Alex’s shadow-swept gaze locked onto the garment. He did not blink.
"I condemn it immediately," Alex dictated flawlessly.
Angelina’s smirk faltered. "Excuse me? It weighs practically nothing!"
"Weight is not the issue, Angie. It is a tragedy of blood circulation and respiratory inhibition," Alex lectured softly, tearing the garment’s logic to shreds. "Let us examine the cut. It is skin-tight. To maintain that silhouette, the fabric must continuously compress against your epidermis. It restricts the natural expansion of the intercostal muscles during inhalation. You are sacrificing oxygen intake for visual contouring."
"It highlights the figure!" Salma protested, defending the dress.
"It highlights a severe vulnerability to deep vein thrombosis," Alex countered seamlessly. "Furthermore, the Friction Coefficient is disastrous. If you attempt to lie down on a velvet cushion while wearing tightly stretched silk, the fabric will bunch, ride up, and require constant manual adjustment. Tugging at a hemline is a repetitive, exhausting chore. Throw it on the pyre."
Angelina sighed in dramatic defeat, tossing the emerald gown onto the discard pile. "You have zero romance in your soul."
"Romance should not require a corset, Angie," Alex murmured.
"What about these?" Shakira asked, holding up a pair of highly tailored, flared designer trousers. "They are loose at the bottom! Plenty of airflow!"
"They possess a metallic zipper and a heavy button clasp at the waist," Alex noted bleakly. "A rigid waistband does not accommodate the natural, post-culinary expansion of the human stomach. If you eat a cheeseburger in those trousers, the metal clasp will aggressively dig into your abdomen, causing localized blunt-force trauma. Burn them."
One by one, the most coveted, expensive garments on the planet were held up for judgment, and one by one, the Oracle of Optimization ruthlessly slaughtered them with biological and thermodynamic facts. Strapless dresses were vetoed because they required constant pulling up. Heavy knit sweaters were banned for trapping sweat. Anything with sequins was classified as a "dermal abrasive hazard."
The mountain of discarded clothing grew taller.
"This is impossible!" Jennifer groaned, throwing a pair of leather pants onto the pile. "If everything with a button or a zipper is a tragedy, what are we actually allowed to wear?!"
Before Alex could answer, the door to the eastern corridor swung open.
Courteney Cox padded slowly into the Lounge. She had entirely skipped the sartorial purge, opting instead to take a post-burger shower.
She walked into the room wearing a pair of massively oversized, heather-grey cotton sweatpants. They were at least two sizes too big, secured at the waist by a simple, frayed drawstring. On her upper half, she wore a gigantic, heavyweight navy-blue pullover hoodie. The sleeves swallowed her hands completely, and the hood rested softly against the back of her neck.
She looked entirely unbothered, utterly devoid of glamour, and fiercely comfortable.
Alex’s eyes widened a fraction of a millimeter. It was the closest he had come to showing genuine reverence in weeks.
"Halt," Alex commanded softly.
Courteney froze, looking around at the pile of designer clothes and the staring women. "What? Did I miss the fashion show?"
"You did not miss it, Court," Alex murmured, his deep voice thick with profound, almost spiritual respect. "You have just won it. Step forward. Let the Council observe the absolute zenith of human textile engineering."
Jennifer blinked, staring at Courteney’s baggy outfit. "You want us to wear sweatpants? Alex, she looks like a high school track coach on a Sunday morning."
"She looks like an apex survivor," Alex corrected effortlessly. "Let us mathematically analyze her ensemble. Begin with the lower hemisphere. The oversized sweatpants utilize an elastic waistband augmented by a drawstring. This provides infinite, frictionless adjustment. It accommodates maximum stomach expansion without applying a single ounce of metallic pressure to the digestive tract. It is an act of pure grace."
Courteney smiled proudly, putting her hands deep into the massive, fleece-lined pockets.
"The Friction Coefficient is essentially zero," Alex continued, his gaze sweeping over the baggy fabric. "The excess material allows the legs a full, uninhibited range of horizontal motion. She can roll, sprawl, or recline without the cotton ever restricting her joints."
"But the hoodie is swallowing her!" Monica laughed, pointing at Courteney’s hidden hands.
"The hoodie," Alex dictated, his tone brooking absolutely no argument, "is the crowning achievement of the outfit. It is a portable, wearable sanctuary. The excessive sleeve length protects the extremities from localized drafts without the need for gloves. The front pouch pocket provides a zero-exertion resting place for the hands, eliminating the need to let them dangle uselessly at the sides."
Angelina stared at Courteney, the logic slowly, terrifyingly making perfect sense.
"And the hood itself," Alex concluded, resting his head back against his pillows, "is a deployable sensory deprivation chamber. If the ambient light becomes too aggressive, or the acoustic friction of this room becomes unbearable, she simply pulls the hood over her cranium. It muffles sound. It blocks peripheral vision. It is the ultimate defense mechanism against the outside world."
Alex looked at the Harem Council, entirely dismissing the mountain of discarded silk, denim, and sequined haute couture.
"I hereby declare the Sweatpants Doctrine," the Oracle of Optimization announced flawlessly. "From this moment forward, the only acceptable attire within this perimeter is oversized fleece, elastic waistbands, and aggressively baggy cotton. If I see a single button, zipper, or structured collar on this deck, you will be banished to the hardwood."
Salma looked at her restrictive sundress. She looked at Courteney, who was currently looking incredibly warm, perfectly cushioned, and intensely relaxed.
"Where did you get those?" Salma asked Courteney, her voice suddenly hushed with reverence.
"Bottom drawer of the guest armoire," Courteney grinned, pulling the massive hood up over her head until it half-covered her eyes. "There are a dozen sets in there."
The scramble was immediate and absolute. The glamorous, highly competitive women of the Hollywood elite completely abandoned their fifty-thousand-dollar designer gowns, sprinting toward the armoire to dig through stacks of plain, unbranded grey and navy sweatpants.
Within ten minutes, the transformation was complete.
The six women returned to the Lounge, entirely swallowed by massive hoodies and baggy sweatpants. The restrictive, exhausting illusion of high fashion had been completely incinerated. They collapsed onto the velvet loungers, a collective, incredibly deep sigh of pure physical relief echoing across the pavilion.
"Oh my god," Angelina mumbled from the depths of a grey hoodie, her knees pulled to her chest. "I have so much room to breathe. I feel like I am floating."
"It’s like walking around inside a cloud," Jennifer agreed, burying her hands deep into her front pocket.
"You have surrendered to the cotton, and the cotton has rewarded you," Alex murmured from his bed, closing his eyes. "The wardrobe rebellion is complete. The Friction Coefficient of this room has reached an absolute zero. Now, please lower your voices. The soft rustling of fleece is the only sound I wish to hear for the remainder of the evening."
Surrounded by a localized army of highly relaxed, deeply comfortable women hidden inside oversized hoodies, Alex sank perfectly into his mattress. The Haute Couture had been banished, the Sweatpants Doctrine was fully operational, and the island had taken one step closer to absolute, unyielding perfection.
