Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 505: The Sartorial Illusion
Chapter 503: The Sartorial Illusion
The hydrostatic suspension beds hummed a final, sub-audible frequency before the violet bioluminescence beneath the liquid membranes slowly faded to black. The restorative cymatic sequence was officially complete.
Inside the sprawling, open-air cliffside master suite, a profound silence settled over the room, replacing the chaotic residual energy of James Cameron’s digital humiliation.
Jennifer Aniston tentatively slid one perfectly manicured foot off the edge of her medical hover-stretcher. She pressed her toes against the polished teakwood floorboards. She applied a fraction of her body weight, holding her breath, half-expecting her legs to buckle into the gravity-deprived jelly they had been just hours prior.
Instead, her calf muscles engaged flawlessly. She stood up, her spine perfectly aligned.
"Oh, thank god," Jennifer sighed, stretching her arms high above her head. "I am officially a terrestrial mammal again. The gravity de-calibration is cured."
Salma Hayek eagerly bounded off her own gel bed, executing a flawless, celebratory pirouette. "My hamstrings are back! I can walk! I can run! I can—"
"Do not run, Salma," a deep, unyielding baritone echoed from the center of the massive circular mattress. "Running is an unnecessary provocation of the knees. Please respect the structural integrity of your newly restored joints."
Alex Turner lay perfectly supine, swathed in a featherweight, deep-sapphire Tahitian silk sleep shirt and loose, breathable trousers. His shadowed gaze was lazily tracking a tropical bird gliding past the open balcony. The Architect of Apathy had not moved a single millimeter since terminating the mainland’s most volatile director.
Angelina Jolie gracefully stood up from her stretcher, smoothing down her sheer resort wrap. She looked around the master suite, her dark eyes flashing with a sudden, undeniable spark of restlessness.
"The cymatic massage was brilliant, Alex," Angelina admitted, walking toward the balcony to look out over the Pacific. "But we have been walking around in silk robes, swimsuits, and sleepwear for an entire week. The European syndicates surrendered days ago. We own the entire global fashion industry."
Monica Bellucci paused, sitting on the edge of the mattress. Her aristocratic instincts immediately caught the scent of the conversation. "Angie is right. We have achieved peak relaxation, but we are neglecting the aesthetic victory. I require a silhouette."
"A silhouette is a rigid, structural prison designed to restrict blood flow to the vital organs, Monica," Alex murmured, his breathing slow and hypnotic. "Why would you voluntarily encase yourself in stiff fabrics when the ambient temperature is a flawless seventy-two degrees?"
"Because it is glamorous, Mr. CEO," Gillian Anderson purred, her husky voice dripping with newly restored energy. "We want a private, formal gala. Right here on the island. Tonight. A five-course molecular dinner on the pavilion, and everyone dresses to the nines."
Alex closed his eyes, his expression tightening with profound administrative disgust.
"Formalwear," Alex lectured softly, "is an exercise in biological masochism. It demands the utilization of zippers, which pose a severe pinching hazard. It requires high heels, which violently force the metatarsals into an unnatural, localized suspension. I absolutely refuse to authorize an event that mandates footwear."
Before the women could form a unified, high-decibel rebellion against his anti-fashion manifesto, the sleek bamboo service doors hissed open.
Commander Elias Thorne stepped into the suite. He was flanked by two silent, heavy-duty Vanguard logistical drones, each carrying a massive, hovering, temperature-controlled wardrobe trunk stamped with the insignias of the conquered Parisian and Milanese design houses.
"Mr. Turner. Council," Thorne announced crisply. "The tribute from the European fashion syndicates has arrived. Vanguard Logistics has sanitized and cataloged the inventory. The trunks contain absolute, bespoke haute couture, custom-tailored to the biometric scans of every individual in this room."
Shakira gasped, practically sprinting toward the hovering trunks. "They sent the runway collections?! Oh, this is happening! Alex, you cannot cancel a private gala when Paris literally just mailed us their surrender!"
"The dresses are stunning," Jennifer cheered, pulling out an impossibly elegant, backless emerald gown that seemed to defy gravity. "Alex, you have to dress up. Just this once. You owe us for making us listen to James Cameron scream."
Alex did not lift his head. "I owe you nothing but localized climate control, Jen."
"You are putting on a tuxedo," Salma demanded, crossing her arms and glaring at the horizontal billionaire. "You are the head of the empire. You cannot attend a formal dinner looking like you are about to take a nap."
"A tuxedo," Alex droned, dismantling the concept with surgical precision, "is a medieval constraint device. A necktie is a voluntary silken noose that suffocates the jugular vein and restricts cerebral oxygenation. A tailored jacket violently limits the rotational mobility of the shoulder joints. If I wear a tuxedo, I cannot maintain my optimal reclining angle. I will not sacrifice my vascular circulation for the illusion of sophistication."
Angelina stepped forward, her eyes narrowing. "We are not asking you to run a marathon, Alex. We are asking you to put on a jacket. Stand up."
"Standing up is a tactical error," Alex reasoned effortlessly. "Thorne."
"Sir," Thorne acknowledged, stepping forward and tapping his digital telemetry pad.
"The Council is suffering from a severe delusion of sartorial necessity," Alex dictated seamlessly, his voice entirely devoid of effort. "They demand the visual aesthetic of formalwear, but my biology demands absolute, frictionless comfort. Bridge the gap, Commander."
"Immediately, sir," Thorne replied. "Deploying the Photonic Sartorial Emitter."
The women froze, looking around the room in bewilderment.
"The what emitter?" Courteney Cox asked.
From the ceiling directly above the massive circular bed, a microscopic, entirely silent optical node engaged. A soft, geometric grid of invisible laser light washed over Alex’s body.
"Vanguard Engineering recognized that the CEO views buttons and rigid collars as unacceptable ergonomic hazards," Thorne explained, entirely deadpan. "Therefore, we have mapped a hyper-realistic, three-dimensional holographic rendering of a fifty-thousand-dollar, bespoke Italian tuxedo directly onto his current coordinates."
Instantly, the visual reality of the master suite fractured.
To the naked eye, Alex Turner was no longer wearing a loose, sapphire silk sleep shirt. The hologram flawlessly overlaid his body, wrapping him in a breathtakingly sharp, impossibly tailored obsidian-black tuxedo. The digital silk lapels caught the ambient sunlight with mathematical perfection. A crisp, digital bow tie rested flawlessly at his throat.
He looked like a lethal, untouchable cinematic icon.
But physically, he was still lying completely flat on his back, swathed in oversized, ultra-breathable pajamas.
"Oh my god," Mariah Carey whispered, her hands flying to her mouth in absolute shock. "It looks completely real. The fabric is actually casting a digital shadow on the mattress."
"It is a triumph of visual compliance," Alex murmured lazily, his deep voice contrasting hilariously with his razor-sharp digital tuxedo. "I am providing you with the exact aesthetic formality you demanded, and I did not have to fasten a single button. I am entirely, flawlessly comfortable."
Monica, deeply suspicious of the illusion, gracefully walked over to the edge of the bed. She reached out to adjust the incredibly crisp, digital bow tie resting at his throat.
Her manicured fingers passed completely through the holographic light, entirely missing the tie, and gently brushed against the soft, loose collar of his actual silk sleep shirt hidden beneath the projection.
Monica withdrew her hand, staring at her fingers in profound disbelief. "You are a ghost. You are literally wearing a ghost suit."
"I am mathematically optimized, Monica," Alex corrected smoothly, a slow, predatory smirk pulling at his features. "I have outsourced the burden of fashion to a supercomputer. My physical body remains entirely unrestricted. My circulatory system is operating at peak efficiency. You may all squeeze yourselves into corsets and stilettos if you wish to suffer for beauty. I will attend the gala exactly as I am."
Gillian Anderson collapsed against the edge of the wardrobe trunk, burying her face in her hands as her shoulders shook violently with husky, breathless laughter. "He beat us. We asked him to dress up, and he turned himself into a hologram so he wouldn’t have to tie a knot. He is utterly unbeatable."
"It is a masterpiece of deception!" Salma laughed, shaking her head. "I am so angry, but I cannot stop looking at it. The digital tailoring is impeccable."
"Enjoy the visual, Salma," Alex commanded softly, closing his eyes and allowing the ambient hum of the room to wash over him. "Now, please take your hovering wardrobe trunks to your respective suites. The rustling of silk is an acoustic distraction, and I require at least three hours of total, uninterrupted silence to mentally prepare for the sheer exhaustion of watching you all eat dinner in high heels."
Surrounded by the defeated, highly entertained laughter of the industry’s most powerful women, the Architect of Apathy sank deeper into the chilled memory foam. His digital tuxedo remained impeccably unwrinkled as he drifted into the void. The island’s infrastructure was flawless, the illusion of prestige was absolute, and he hadn’t burned a single calorie to become the best-dressed man in the room.
