Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 193: Ten-Million-Dollar Phone Call
Chapter 192: Ten-Million-Dollar Phone Call
Trousdale Estates, Los Angeles. Friday, 3:30 PM PST.
The architecture of extreme wealth is often misunderstood by those who do not possess it. The newly rich tend to fill their spaces with noise—loud parties, frantic networking, and a constant, buzzing need for validation.
But true, apex-predator wealth is entirely defined by silence.
Inside the sprawling, mid-century fortress hovering over the Los Angeles basin, the silence was heavy, physical, and absolutely impenetrable. The heavy motorized blackout drapes remained perfectly angled to block the harsh afternoon glare, casting the pristine white terrazzo floors into a soft, diffused, golden twilight.
In the exact geometric center of the living room, the fourteen-by-fourteen-foot espresso-colored Italian linen megalith operated as the gravitational core of the universe.
Alex Turner lay perfectly flat on his back, buried deep within the down-filled cushions. His unbranded, midnight-blue Loro Piana cashmere t-shirt and matching sweatpants provided zero dermal friction. His dark, obsidian eyes were closed, his chest rising and falling in a slow, hypnotic metronome. The [Biological Endurance: Level 3 - The Immortal Sloth] trait was effortlessly optimizing his cellular structure, converting his earlier intake of artisanal Italian gelato into dense, coiled kinetic energy without him having to lift a single finger.
Radiating outward in a flawless ten-foot sphere, the [The Sovereign’s Embrace: Level 2] trait blanketed the Harem Council in an invisible, hyperbaric field of absolute cellular and psychological repair.
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Mariah Carey, and Monica Bellucci were arrayed across the sprawling cushion pit. The toxic, soul-crushing exhaustion of the Hollywood studio system had been entirely purged from their nervous systems. They were suspended in a state of absolute, unbothered stasis, perfectly content to let the outside world tear itself apart.
At exactly 3:34 PM, the heavy Motorola brick phone, resting on the reclaimed teakwood coffee table just outside the perimeter of the sofas, erupted into its silent, red visual strobe alert.
Alex let out a low, resonant groan of profound spiritual suffering.
"The corporate machine," Alex complained blindly to the ceiling, his deep baritone vibrating smoothly through the heavy linen cushions, "possesses a catastrophic inability to respect the digestion of complex dairy fats."
Jennifer Aniston gracefully stirred from her position near his left arm. She didn’t experience the usual groggy panic of a Hollywood wake-up call. She smiled, her blue eyes shining with crystalline clarity, and smoothly executed her role as the apex gatekeeper.
She slid out of the linen pit, padding barefoot across the cool terrazzo, and snatched the heavy plastic device from the table. She extended the thick black antenna and pressed it to her ear before the flashing light could further disturb the Slacker King’s visual field.
"Tyrant Group, Executive Office," Jennifer murmured, her voice dropping into a cool, impenetrable whisper.
"Ms. Aniston. Good afternoon," Richard Vance Jr.’s voice crackled through the analog connection. The corporate attorney sounded impeccably sharp, though vibrating with the manic, high-octane adrenaline of a man who was actively holding a major film studio upside down by its ankles. "I apologize for the intrusion, but the financial guillotine has successfully dropped. I require the CEO’s ear."
Jennifer covered the mouthpiece, gently tapping Alex’s shoulder.
"Alex," Jennifer called out softly. "It’s Richard. The financial guillotine has dropped."
Alex didn’t open his eyes. "Put him on speaker, Jen. And please inform me that the CEO of Paramount Pictures is currently weeping into his quarterly projections."
Jennifer pressed the speakerphone button and set the heavy device on the cushion next to Alex’s head.
"Speak, Richard," Alex commanded lazily.
"Mr. Turner. The subjugation is absolute," Richard chuckled, a dark, incredibly satisfied sound that echoed in the quiet room. "Exactly four minutes ago, the Paramount accounting department initiated a direct wire transfer. Ten million dollars in pure, unencumbered cash has officially cleared the Cayman wash and is currently sitting in Tyrant Group LLC’s primary offshore holding account."
Mariah Carey, resting near the northern edge of the megalith, opened her honey-colored eyes, shaking her head in sheer, reverent disbelief.
"Ten million dollars," Mariah whispered. "For a single phone call."
"It is a highly efficient consulting fee, Mary," Alex noted smoothly. "Did they sign the labor mandate, Richard?"
"They had absolutely no choice, sir," Richard reported, the sound of flipping legal pages echoing over the line. "Paramount was bleeding nearly two hundred thousand dollars an hour in idle crew and equipment costs across three separate blockbuster soundstages. The CEO personally signed the ’Turner Doctrine’ rider. Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Harrison Ford are officially restricted to a strict 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM operational window. No weekend shoots. No forced overtime."
"Excellent," Alex murmured, a slow, predatory smirk pulling at the corners of his mouth. "You may patch me through to the Paramount studio lot, Richard. It is time to conclude the consultation."
"I have the Paramount Line Producer holding on the secondary line right now, sir. He is currently standing on the lawn with a satellite phone. Patching you through."
There was a brief click, a burst of static, and then the frantic, terrified breathing of a studio executive filled the speaker.
"H-hello? Is this Mr. Turner?" the Line Producer stammered, his voice cracking with pure desperation.
"Put Tom on the phone," Alex dictated, entirely ignoring the executive’s existence.
There was the sound of fumbling plastic, hurried footsteps over grass, and then, the intense, highly focused voice of the biggest action star on the planet came through the receiver.
"Alex," Tom Cruise said, his breathy, distinct cadence vibrating with a terrifyingly calm, cult-like devotion. "We are holding the line. Brad and Harrison are right here. We haven’t moved an inch. The sun is beautiful, man. The aura is cleansing."
Jennifer and Courteney exchanged a look, burying their faces in their cashmere sleeves to suppress their giggles. The Slacker King had successfully convinced the most intensely driven actors in Hollywood to stage a meditation protest on a corporate lawn.
"The line has been successfully defended, Tom," Alex drawled lazily, his deep voice carrying the absolute, uncompromising weight of an emperor declaring the end of a war. "The studio has unconditionally surrendered. The ten-to-six mandate is legally binding. Your aura is officially detoxified."
Tom let out a heavy, shuddering exhale of profound liberation.
"They actually signed it," Tom whispered, the realization hitting him like a physical blow. "Alex... you just bought us our lives back. We don’t have to shoot until 3:00 AM anymore."
"Shooting at 3:00 AM is a biological tragedy, Tom. I simply corrected the math," Alex reasoned flawlessly. "You may return to the soundstage. But do not run. Walking slowly preserves joint cartilage and reminds the executives that you are doing them a favor by returning to work."
"Understood, Alex. We’re walking," Tom promised, absolute reverence lacing his tone. "I owe you, man. Seriously."
"Just remember to stay hydrated, Tom. Goodbye."
Alex didn’t wait for a response. He reached out and pressed the end button on the Motorola phone, severing the connection and plunging the living room back into pristine, heavily insulated silence.
He crossed his hands back over his stomach, shifting his weight slightly to optimize his lumbar alignment against the down-filled cushions.
Monica Bellucci pushed herself up from the western quadrant of the megalith, her dark, expressive eyes wide with a mixture of intense attraction and absolute shock.
"Alex," Monica purred, her rich Italian accent wrapping around the syllables. "You just charged a major film studio ten million dollars to tell three men to stand up and walk back inside a building. It is... it is the most spectacular, terrifying act of extortion I have ever witnessed."
"It wasn’t extortion, Monica. I provided a highly specialized logistical service," Alex corrected lazily, finally opening his dark, obsidian eyes to look at the ceiling. "I diagnosed a severe labor inefficiency, prescribed a mandatory period of physical rest, and enforced a healthier corporate schedule. I am essentially a highly paid occupational therapist."
Courteney Cox let out a loud, breathless laugh, shaking her head. "A wellness guru who bankrupts the networks. You literally just altered the labor laws of the entire cinematic sector without leaving your couch."
"The couch is the absolute epicenter of strategic leverage, Court," Alex murmured, a lazy smile touching his lips. "When you control the couch, you control the board."
[DING!]
The ethereal, crystal-clear chime of the Superstar & Champion System echoed violently in his cerebral cortex.
The translucent blue interface materialized seamlessly in the darkness of his vision, blazing with an intense, golden light.
[System Milestone Achieved: The Paramount Contagion Concluded.]
[Description: The Host has successfully monetized absolute inertia, weaponizing proxy ideological infection to extract maximum liquid capital from a Tier-1 Corporate Entity. The ’Turner Doctrine’ is now a permanently codified mandate within the global cinematic infrastructure.]
[Reward: +50 System Points (SP). Current SP: 1460.]
Alex dismissed the glowing blue text with a lazy mental flick.
The system points were stacking into an absurd, god-tier arsenal, a digital stockpile of reality-bending power that he had absolutely zero intention of using unless his nap schedule was violently threatened.
He looked around the fourteen-by-fourteen-foot linen megalith. The four women surrounding him were completely insulated, their careers secured, their wealth compounding, and their biological stress entirely eradicated by the localized hyperbaric field of his aura.
"Now," the Slacker King announced softly, his deep voice wrapping around the Harem Council like a warm, protective blanket. "The studio system has been disciplined. The capital has been secured in the Cayman accounts. The administrative portion of the week is officially concluded."
He reached out his long, heavily muscled arms, casually pulling Jennifer and Monica closer to his sides, while Mariah and Courteney settled comfortably near his feet.
"I am declaring a complete cessation of all cognitive and corporate engagement for the remainder of the evening," Alex dictated, closing his eyes and sinking deeper into the frictionless luxury of the cashmere. "Gatekeeper. Call Julian at Platinum Concierge. Tell him we require a massive platter of imported bluefin tuna and fresh uni. And tell Thorne that if the phone rings again before dinner, he is authorized to throw it into the koi pond."
