Chapter 138: The Cashmere Victory
Chapter 137: The Cashmere Victory
Stella Management Headquarters, Rome, Italy. Monday, 9:00 AM CET.
The epicenter of the European cinematic talent market operated with a distinctly different flavor of arrogance than its Hollywood counterpart. It was older, steeped in centuries of elitism, and insulated by Byzantine layers of regional bureaucracy.
Roberto Conti, the CEO of Stella Management, sat behind a massive desk carved from centuries-old Tuscan oak. His office, located on the top floor of a historic, heavily ornamented commercial building near the Colosseum, overlooked the sprawling, sun-drenched ruins of the ancient Roman empire.
Conti was sipping a perfectly extracted espresso, wearing a bespoke suit that cost more than a luxury sedan. He was in a spectacularly good mood.
For the past seventy-two hours, his agency had been engaged in a standoff with a mysterious American holding company called Tyrant Group LLC over the contract of his most lucrative asset: Monica Bellucci. The Americans had demanded her release for zero commission. Conti had scoffed, threatening to blacklist her across the entire European Union and freeze her intellectual property rights.
He felt entirely untouchable. American lawyers, no matter how aggressive, could not easily pierce the tangled web of Italian labor syndicates and regional distribution laws. He assumed the Americans would eventually capitulate, flying across the Atlantic with a massive buyout check to secure his cooperation.
The heavy, carved mahogany door to his office burst open.
Conti’s senior legal associate, a man named Marco who usually possessed the emotional range of a stone gargoyle, practically sprinted into the room. Marco’s face was the color of wet chalk. He was clutching a single sheet of thermal fax paper.
"Marco," Conti sighed, setting his espresso cup down on a silver saucer. "I instructed you not to interrupt me before the morning staff meeting. What is the emergency? Did the Americans finally send a counter-offer?"
"Roberto," Marco gasped, his chest heaving as if he had just run up six flights of stairs. "They didn’t send a counter-offer. They sent an eviction notice."
Conti frowned, his thick, perfectly groomed eyebrows knitting together in confusion. "An eviction notice? From whom? We hold an iron-clad, ten-year commercial lease on these top three floors. The building owner is a close personal friend."
"He was a close personal friend, Roberto," Marco whispered, his voice trembling with sheer, unadulterated corporate terror as he laid the fax on the Tuscan oak desk. "He isn’t the owner anymore."
Conti picked up the paper.
The header bore the stark, unbranded, terrifyingly minimalist black insignia of Tyrant Group LLC - Real Estate Acquisitions Division.
Below the header, drafted with the lethal, surgical precision of Richard Vance Jr., were the terms of the apocalypse.
NOTICE OF IMMEDIATE PROPERTY ACQUISITION AND LEASE RESTRUCTURING.
To the Managing Directors of Stella Management:
Please be advised that as of 12:01 AM this morning, Tyrant Group LLC successfully executed the outright purchase of the commercial property in which your agency currently resides. The previous owner accepted a cash buyout of thirty percent over market value to bypass standard escrow timelines.
As your new landlord, Tyrant Group LLC has conducted a review of your current tenancy. Effective immediately, your commercial rent has been retroactively increased by four hundred percent (400%).
If Ms. Monica Bellucci’s exclusive management rights and entire intellectual property catalog are not legally released to Tyrant Group LLC within exactly ONE HOUR of the timestamp on this fax, we will initiate immediate, aggressive eviction proceedings. Armed Carabinieri are currently standing by at the ground floor lobby to physically remove your assets and personnel onto the street.
Roberto Conti stopped breathing.
His eyes darted frantically over the words. He read them again. And then a third time. His brain, conditioned to navigate slow, methodical European legal battles, catastrophically stalled.
"They bought the building," Conti whispered, the sheer, psychotic magnitude of the financial maneuver breaking his reality. "They bought a multi-million-lira commercial skyscraper in the center of Rome... over the weekend... just to fire me?"
"I called the previous owner, Roberto!" Marco panicked, gripping the edge of the desk. "He confirmed it! The Americans wired the cash directly into his Swiss account on Sunday night! It’s done! They own the floor we are standing on!"
Conti looked at his shaking hands. The brilliant, suffocating strategy of the Slacker King’s [Business Management: Level Max] trait had bypassed every single legal defense Conti possessed. Alex Turner hadn’t bothered to fight him in court. He had simply purchased the literal ground beneath Conti’s feet and threatened to pull the rug out.
It was the ultimate, inescapable flex of infinite liquid capital.
"The timer, Roberto," Marco warned, pointing a shaking finger at the timestamp at the top of the fax. "We received this fifty minutes ago. We have ten minutes before they lock the elevators and throw our filing cabinets out the window."
The arrogant, untouchable King of European Talent Management completely collapsed.
"Send it," Conti rasped, his voice hollowed out, entirely stripped of its bravado. He collapsed back into his chair, rubbing his face with his hands. "Draft the unconditional release. Surrender all her IP. Surrender the management rights. Give them everything they want, Marco! Just don’t let them take the building!"
Sterling, Hughes & Vance, Downtown Los Angeles. Sunday, Midnight PST.
While the sun was rising over Rome, the city of Los Angeles was buried in the dark, smog-hazed silence of midnight.
Inside the towering glass skyscraper of the law firm, Richard Vance Jr. was the only executive still awake. His corner office was illuminated solely by the glow of his computer monitor and a single desk lamp.
He was drinking his fifth cup of black coffee, perfectly content to burn the midnight oil for a client who treated international corporate warfare like a casual weekend hobby.
The heavy, encrypted fax machine in the corner of his office whirred to life.
Richard set his coffee mug down, stood up, and walked over to the machine. He watched the thermal paper slowly slide out of the tray.
It was an official, legally binding document bearing the seal of Stella Management. It was the unconditional release of Monica Bellucci. Every single clause Roberto Conti had previously demanded—the severance fees, the European distribution holds, the non-competes—had been frantically, desperately crossed out and initialed by a terrified Italian lawyer.
Richard let out a sharp, booming laugh that echoed in the empty office.
"Flawless execution," Richard murmured to himself, picking up the document.
He didn’t pick up the phone to call Trousdale Estates. He knew the absolute, non-negotiable laws of the sanctuary. Waking Alex Turner before 11:00 AM for an administrative update was a fireable offense.
Instead, Richard meticulously filed the surrender document into his silver briefcase, turned off the lights in his office, and finally went home to get a few hours of sleep, completely satisfied that the Slacker King’s empire had just annexed the European cinematic sector without firing a single shot.
Trousdale Estates, Los Angeles. Monday, 11:15 AM PST.
The biological suspension of the mid-century fortress remained an absolute, immovable force of nature.
Inside the sprawling, air-conditioned living room, the fourteen-by-fourteen-foot linen megalith was fully occupied. The motorized blackout drapes had silently retracted fifteen minutes prior, allowing the golden California sunshine to flood the white terrazzo floors and heat the pristine, down-filled cushions of the espresso-colored Italian sofas.
Alex Turner lay perfectly flat on his back in the center of the pit.
He was wearing his ultra-luxury, unbranded charcoal Loro Piana cashmere t-shirt and matching sweatpants. His [Biological Endurance: Level 3 - The Immortal Sloth] trait had seamlessly pulled him from a state of deep, cellular-restorative delta sleep into an effortless, sharp wakefulness.
He didn’t stretch. He didn’t yawn. He simply opened his dark, obsidian eyes and looked up at the ceiling.
The [The Emperor’s Hearth: Level 2 - The Sovereign’s Embrace] trait had operated at maximum capacity throughout the night, blanketing the three women sleeping around him in a heavy, localized hyperbaric field of peace.
To his left, Jennifer Aniston stirred, her blonde hair pooling beautifully against the charcoal fabric of his shirt. To his right, Mariah Carey let out a soft, contented breath, her head resting on a silk pillow. At his feet, Monica Bellucci lay curled on her side, draped in midnight-blue cashmere, her face a portrait of absolute, unburdened serenity.
Alex let out a low, resonant hum of approval.
"The structural integrity of this couch is truly commendable," Alex murmured lazily to the quiet room.
Jennifer opened her bright blue eyes, blinking against the sunlight. She didn’t flinch. She simply smiled, shifting her weight to rest her chin on his chest.
"Good morning, Mr. CEO," Jennifer whispered, her voice husky and entirely devoid of industry-induced cortisol. "Have we conquered any new continents while we were sleeping?"
"Conquering requires leaving the house, Jen. I prefer to let the continents surrender via fax," Alex drawled smoothly.
As if summoned by the mention of communications, the heavy Motorola brick phone, resting on the teakwood tray just outside the perimeter of the megalith, emitted its silent, red visual strobe alert.
Jennifer seamlessly deployed her role as the gatekeeper of the Harem Council. She reached out, plucked the device from the tray, extended the thick black antenna, and pressed it to her ear.
"Tyrant Group, Executive Office," Jennifer answered, her tone effortlessly shifting into a cool, impenetrable professional register.
"Ms. Aniston. Good morning," Richard Vance Jr.’s voice crackled over the line. The corporate attorney sounded impeccably sharp, though a distinct undertone of manic, bureaucratic ecstasy laced his words. "I am calling to provide the morning logistics briefing. Is the CEO awake?"
"The CEO is currently engaged in advanced lumbar optimization," Jennifer replied smoothly, glancing down at Alex. "Proceed with the briefing, Richard."
"Please inform Mr. Turner that ’Operation Roman Landlord’ was an absolute, devastating success," Richard reported, the sound of flipping legal pages echoing over the line. "Stella Management received the eviction notice at 9:00 AM CET. They held out for exactly fifty minutes before suffering a complete organizational collapse. I received the unconditional release documents at midnight."
Monica Bellucci, hearing the mention of her former agency, pushed herself up from the cushions. Her dark, expressive eyes widened instantly. She crawled across the soft linen until she was sitting beside Jennifer.
Jennifer tilted the phone so Monica could hear.
"The release is unconditional, Richard?" Monica asked, her rich Italian accent thick with disbelief.
"Unconditional and irrevocable, Ms. Bellucci," Richard confirmed proudly. "Roberto Conti waived all severance fees, released your entire back-catalog of intellectual property, and formally surrendered his managerial jurisdiction. You are officially, legally untethered from the European studio system."
Monica covered her mouth with both hands, a sharp, breathless intake of air escaping her lips.
For a decade, Roberto Conti had treated her like a piece of high-end livestock, trading her schedule to the highest bidder, forcing her into grueling press tours, and threatening her career whenever she requested a break.
In less than forty-eight hours, the twenty-two-year-old kid in the sweatpants had casually dismantled a ten-year nightmare.
"And the building, Richard?" Alex asked lazily from his horizontal position, his dark eyes sparkling with a faint, predatory amusement. "Did we acquire the title?"
"We did, Mr. Turner. The deed is secured under a secondary Tyrant Group shell corporation," Richard laughed, a dark, highly satisfied sound. "As the new landlord, what are your directives regarding the commercial lease for Stella Management?"
Alex reached his arms behind his head, staring at the ceiling. His [Business Management: Level Max] trait instantly formulated the most gloriously petty, low-effort punishment conceivable.
"Evictions require hiring movers, Richard. Movers make noise," Alex dictated smoothly. "Instead, inform Roberto Conti that he may remain in the building. However, his lease has been permanently amended. The rent remains increased by four hundred percent. Furthermore, the air conditioning on the top three floors is to be permanently disabled during the summer months to ’conserve energy’. And the elevators will be restricted for maintenance every Friday."
A sharp, barking laugh erupted from Richard Vance Jr. "You are going to boil him alive in his own office and force him to take the stairs, sir. It is brilliant. I will dispatch the building management directives immediately."
"Excellent. Has there been any further communication from Universal or Sony?"
"Absolute radio silence, Mr. CEO," Richard reported. "The major labels have officially retreated behind their respective walls. They are terrified of provoking another market incident. You have a completely clear runway."
"Keep the runway clear, Richard. Have a restful Monday."
Jennifer clicked the end button, collapsed the antenna, and set the phone back on the tray.
She turned to look at Monica. The Italian icon was staring at Alex, her dark eyes welling with a profound, overwhelming mixture of sheer gratitude and intense, undeniable affection. The heavy, invisible chains that had bound her to Europe were entirely, permanently severed.
She didn’t speak. She didn’t offer a polite thank you.
Monica simply slid across the linen cushions, bridging the gap between them, and settled herself firmly against Alex’s side. She wrapped her arm across his broad chest, resting her head in the crook of his neck, completely surrendering to the heavy, unshakeable gravity of the Slacker King’s protection.
"You bought a skyscraper," Monica whispered against his collarbone, her voice laced with a slow, intoxicating smile. "You bought a multi-million dollar skyscraper just to turn off a man’s air conditioning."
"It was the most efficient way to resolve the conflict without having to raise my voice," Alex reasoned flawlessly, his strong arm naturally wrapping around her waist.
Mariah Carey, who had been quietly watching the exchange from her corner of the megalith, laughed softly. "He weaponized climate control. I think that officially makes you a supervillain, Alex."
"I prefer the term ’proactive environmentalist’," Alex corrected lazily.
[DING!]
The ethereal, crystal-clear chime of the Superstar & Champion System echoed in his cerebral cortex, vibrating with a tone of profound, ultimate validation.
The translucent blue interface materialized seamlessly in the darkness of his vision.
[System Milestone Achieved: The Velvet Eviction.]
[Description: The Host has successfully eradicated a hostile, international corporate entity utilizing absolute financial superiority and extreme, unadulterated pettiness, permanently securing the sovereignty of a primary Affection Target.]
[Reward: +30 System Points (SP). Current SP: 820.]
Alex dismissed the glowing blue text with a lazy mental flick.
He didn’t need the system to validate the maneuver. He could feel the results in the room. The Harem Council was completely, flawlessly insulated. There were no looming deadlines, no predatory agents, and absolutely no external noise capable of breaching the iron curtain.
"Now," the Slacker King announced, his deep baritone rumbling comfortably in the quiet house. "The international administrative crisis has been resolved. The perimeter is secure. I believe Platinum Concierge left a massive tray of artisanal pastries in the chef’s kitchen."
He looked at Jennifer. "Gatekeeper. The carbohydrates await."
Jennifer grinned, slipping out of the linen pit and padding barefoot toward the kitchen to retrieve the breakfast payload.
As the morning sun continued to bathe the mid-century fortress in a warm, flawless glow, Alex Turner closed his eyes. The European film industry was currently descending into chaos over his actions, but inside the sanctuary, the only thing that mattered was the impending arrival of a chocolate croissant.
The empire was perfect, and the nap schedule remained absolutely, unconditionally supreme.
