Chapter 213 — Market Drama

Lyra had been asleep for almost twenty-four hours.

In that time, Victor had done his best to catch up on everything he’d been neglecting.

Unfortunately, he was starting to run into a problem.

He had already used nearly everything he could to make Spirit Accumulation Pills. At this point, he had stockpiled roughly one hundred and fifty of them.

Victor stared at the rows of pills he’d stored away.

It was almost ridiculous.

Spirit Accumulation Pills were mainly useful for someone preparing to break through into the Spirit Gathering Realm.

Once he figured out a safe way to sell them without drawing too much attention, money shouldn’t be a problem.

With Victor’s current Soul Power and control, Tier One pills weren’t much of a challenge anymore.

That meant it was time to start looking toward Tier Two.

Even if he couldn’t successfully make Tier Two pills yet, he needed to start practicing.

There was only one problem.

His Black Flame was still Tier One.

Victor had barely started working toward raising it.

From what he understood, he needed roughly one hundred different Tier Two alchemical plants to advance the flame. Currently, he had only around fifty.

Which meant his first step was obvious.

He needed another fifty Tier Two plants.

Victor sighed.

That was going to be expensive.

For now, he was stuck.

By the Tower’s modern standards, Victor technically qualified as a Tier Two alchemist because he could already form pills.

But Victor wasn’t interested in judging himself by the Tower’s standards.

Not when he knew how much knowledge had been lost.

He wanted to reach Tier Two by the Library’s standards.

Victor glanced toward the bed.

Lyra was still asleep.

"How long are you planning on sleeping?"

No response.

Victor smiled slightly.

He had entered the Library earlier and spoken with Jack.

That had been an experience.

Jack was becoming increasingly annoyed that Lyra hadn’t visited him.

Because of the difference in time inside the Library, it had already felt like more than a month to him.

He’d actually started worrying about her.

Victor had been forced to explain that Lyra was fine and simply recovering from her breakthrough.

Apparently, that was enough to calm him down.

Victor shook his head.

Jack had practically become a doting grandfather toward Lyra.

Yet whenever Victor disappeared for a while, all he got was complaints and yelling.

"Favoritism at its finest."

A soft chirp came from the bed.

Victor looked over.

Nala was curled up beside Lyra.

The little Firebird had barely left her since they’d returned. She spent most of her time pressed against Lyra’s side, keeping her warm while she slept.

Victor couldn’t help smiling.

For such a small bird, Nala gave off an incredible amount of warmth.

His thoughts shifted.

Nala...

Which naturally made him think of Rakasha.

Victor wondered how she was doing.

Then his thoughts went farther.

Moonlight.

The tribe.

Moncasa.

Monkalusa.

Everyone he’d met during his time in the Sanctuary.

Victor leaned back.

He hadn’t thought about them properly in a while.

Too much had happened since he’d returned to the Tower.

But now that he did...

He missed them.

After sitting there for another few minutes, Victor stood.

He needed some air.

Victor quietly left the apartment.

He walked without any particular destination.

There was too much going through his mind.

The Graveborn estate.

That visit was quickly approaching.

Victor still had no idea what Daniel wanted.

The man had invited him into his family’s estate as casually as if they were old friends.

But from Victor’s perspective, he was potentially walking straight into enemy territory.

At least Zack had agreed to go with him.

He wouldn’t be alone.

Victor continued walking through the busy streets until he eventually reached the market.

After wandering for a while, he found an empty bench and sat down.

He leaned back.

Maybe doing absolutely nothing for a few minutes would help.

Then he saw someone familiar.

Victor blinked.

No way.

Walking through the market was the same nerdy-looking man he’d seen arguing with his friend near the Quartermaster on Victor’s first day back.

Victor remembered them clearly.

They’d been fighting over a woman.

Later, Victor had seen that exact woman with the other man.

And now—

She was back with the nerdy guy.

Victor slowly sat straighter.

Their arms were locked together.

There was no mistaking what this was.

They were on a date.

Victor stared.

What happened here?

Had she gone from one man to the other and then back again?

Was she playing both of them?

Victor had absolutely no idea.

But suddenly, his own problems weren’t nearly as interesting.

The couple came closer.

Victor wasn’t trying to listen.

He didn’t have to.

"Baby, please," the woman said. "I’m sorry for talking to your friend for a while. It wasn’t my fault."

Victor’s eyebrows rose.

The woman continued.

"He started talking to me and telling me all these lies about you. I couldn’t help but believe him."

The nerdy man looked at her lovingly.

"Don’t worry. I understand, honey."

Victor stared straight ahead.

"Nothing is ever going to come between us again."

The man smiled at her.

"And don’t worry. I’ll never talk to him again. I can’t believe he would do something like that."

The woman smiled. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"Baby, thank you for believing me."

Victor’s expression slowly changed.

"I love you so much."

Then they kissed.

Right in front of him.

Victor immediately looked away.

Whatever this was, he didn’t need to watch that part.

Still, he couldn’t help feeling a little bad for the guy.

From the tiny pieces Victor had seen, he had a strong feeling the woman was using him somehow.

But then again, Victor didn’t know the whole story.

Maybe there was more going on.

He shook his head and laughed quietly.

Somehow, that ridiculous little interaction had actually helped clear his mind.

Forget everything else.

The market had its own drama series.

Victor watched the couple continue walking away.

He couldn’t help himself.

"On the next episode of Nerdy Boy and His Lover..."

Victor put on a dramatic voice.

"Will she stay with Nerdy Boy? Or will she return to Buff Man?"

The couple stopped.

Victor froze.

They slowly turned around.

Both stared at him.

Victor smiled awkwardly.

"..."

He looked away.

The couple continued staring.

Victor stood from the bench.

Time to go.

He started walking back toward the apartment.

After making it far enough away, he couldn’t hold it anymore.

Victor started laughing.

Maybe that walk had been exactly what he needed.
