Chapter 199 — Healing Pulse
Victor looked up.
Elder Benton stood among the remains of the destroyed meat market.
There wasn’t much of a building left anymore. The walls had been torn apart, the roof had partially collapsed, and debris covered the street.
The pressure radiating from Benton was almost too much for Victor to handle in his current condition.
Benton noticed immediately and pulled his Spiritual Energy back.
He had rushed here the moment he’d understood what was happening through Victor’s call, using nearly the full extent of his speed to reach the scene as quickly as possible.
But he was still too late.
The Evil God worshipper was gone.
Whether the man had escaped on his own or someone had taken him away before Benton arrived, he didn’t know.
At least everybody was still alive.
Though judging by their injuries, barely.
Benton disappeared.
Victor couldn’t even process the movement.
One moment, the Space Witch was leaning against him.
The next, Benton was standing beside them with her already thrown over his shoulder.
His eyes swept over Victor’s body.
Burns covered one side of the boy. Deep cuts and gashes ran across his skin, and there was still a hole in the side of his torso from the spear attack earlier.
Benton didn’t hesitate.
Before Victor even realized what was happening, Benton grabbed him as well.
The world blurred.
Victor barely had time to react before the destroyed meat market disappeared behind them.
Wind tore past his face.
Buildings became little more than streaks as Benton raced through the Tower at a speed Victor couldn’t even begin to comprehend.
This is insane...
Victor couldn’t tell exactly how fast they were moving. All he knew was that his own Advanced Flash Step seemed almost laughable in comparison.
A minute or two later, they arrived at the elevator leading to Level Two.
Benton stepped inside with both of them.
As the elevator began rising, he pulled out his citizen ID and contacted someone.
Victor couldn’t hear enough to make out who.
When they reached Level Two, Benton used his access card and immediately headed for his office.
Victor and the Space Witch were brought inside and placed on separate alchemy tables in Benton’s laboratory.
For the first time since the fight ended, Victor could finally remain still.
His entire body hurt.
Every breath pulled at the wound in his side, while the burns covering his skin throbbed with a constant, searing pain.
A knock came from the door.
Benton immediately turned.
"Come in. Quickly."
The door opened.
A woman stepped inside.
She appeared somewhere around forty or forty-five years old, with naturally green hair falling around her face. She was remarkably beautiful for her age, but the stern expression in her eyes made her seem far less approachable.
She looked at Benton.
"This better be good. You interrupted me in the middle of an important experiment."
"It is."
Benton gestured toward the unconscious woman.
"Space Witch has been hurt."
The green-haired woman’s expression changed slightly.
Then Benton glanced toward Victor.
"And the boy I’ve been telling you about has been hurt as well."
Her eyes moved toward him.
Victor met her gaze.
"Ah."
She sighed.
"Fine."
The woman walked over to the two tables and immediately began working.
Several small containers appeared in her hands.
She opened them one after another, pouring different liquids across their wounds.
Victor watched closely.
Then her Spiritual Energy emerged.
A greenish-yellow glow surrounded her hands before spreading over Victor and the Space Witch.
Victor’s eyes narrowed.
He had never seen anything like it.
The energy felt completely different from the Spiritual Energy he was accustomed to. It flowed through the liquids she’d applied, causing them to react almost immediately.
Green-yellow energy swirled around his wounds.
The woman noticed him watching.
Her eyes shifted toward him, and a small smile appeared on her face.
"Try not to pass out."
Victor looked at her, confused.
Pass out?
She raised her hands.
"Healing Pulse."
Victor’s entire body locked.
Pain exploded through him.
His eyes widened.
Every injury across his body seemed to ignite simultaneously.
The burns.
The cuts.
The hole in his side.
Everything.
Victor’s muscles tensed violently as the green-yellow energy forced its way through his wounds.
His body convulsed against the table.
The woman smiled as she watched him.
Victor could have sworn she was enjoying this.
The pain continued.
Victor clenched his jaw as tightly as he could.
Yet he remained conscious.
Nearly five minutes passed before something finally changed. ℴℴ𝘮
The pain vanished.
Victor’s body relaxed against the table as the same energy that had felt unbearable moments ago suddenly became warm and soothing.
He exhaled slowly.
The burns covering his body began fading.
Cuts started closing.
Even the deep wound in the left side of his torso slowly knitted itself back together.
Victor stared down at himself.
What kind of healing technique is this?
It was extraordinary.
He wanted to ask her about it, but she was completely focused on controlling the energy flowing through both patients.
Victor remained quiet and watched.
Benton did the same from the side.
But his attention wasn’t on the healing technique.
It was on Victor.
He hadn’t passed out.
Benton’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Even grown adults frequently lost consciousness during this particular healing process. The pain during the initial stage wasn’t something most people could simply endure.
Victor was fourteen and yet he’d remained conscious through the entire thing.
Benton couldn’t help but wonder what the boy had experienced before returning to the Tower.
Someone didn’t develop that kind of tolerance for pain without reason.
Once again, Victor Ashcroft left him with more questions than answers.
Eventually, the green-yellow energy began fading.
The woman lowered her hands.
"It’s done."
She turned toward Benton.
"You realize you’re going to owe me for this, right?"
Benton shook his head.
"Yeah, I know, you old hag."
She nodded.
"Good."
Benton paused.
"Thank you, Alondra."
Alondra glanced toward him.
"I didn’t do it for you. I did it for her."
Her eyes moved toward the unconscious Space Witch.
"And for the favor you’re going to owe me."
Benton didn’t argue.
Alondra looked back at the woman lying on the table.
Her expression became more serious.
"But what happened to her? How did she get this hurt?"
Benton was silent for a moment.
Then he turned toward Victor.
Alondra followed his gaze.
Victor looked between the two of them.
Both were waiting.
He exhaled slowly.
It looked like it was finally time to explain what had happened.
