Chapter 435: New Dead Redemption

  • Next Chapter

Half an hour until the beginning of the Grinder’s Day.

A final wheelhouse wheeled down the bumpy, dirt road. The players looked over. It was the one that they all have been waiting for.

The emblem of Dead Redemption adorned the wheelhouse door.

It came to a stop. The door opened. And then, Leon, with the other nine members of Dead Redemption, stepped out.

“Woohoo!” Shane Scuf grinned with a big smile. “Grinder’s Day wasn’t as big the last time I participated, but of course, it was held over on the 10th floor before.”

Seonwoo Kim looked at players with a hostile gaze. She stood behind Leon as if she were his bodyguard or something.

“Hmm…” Redfury rubbed his bushy beard.

He was one of the newer members of Dead Redemption, but before joining Leon, he was very infamous.

He was best known as the Red Menace. His legacy allowed him to turn into a flying pterodactyl at will.

Redfury’s favorite pastime was grabbing a player as pterodactyl, take them high into the sky, and then drop them.

“The Drop of Doom” was what he called his special move. It made many players traumatized, as they had to wait for about ten seconds before hitting the ground with a splat.

Some players had even survived the drop at first. All their bones broken. Then, if they survived, Redfury would take them back up and drop them again.

“Yawn!” Collingham yawned loudly. “My girlfriend didn’t let me sleep last night at all. I am so tired.”

The tired-looking man with yellowish hair was Collingham. The Ripper of the West. Perhaps the most infamous serial killer in all of Innerworld.

There were people that suspected that Collingham might also be the infamous serial killer “Murder-For-Hire” who had been terrorizing the City of Ingerham for years.

They both lived there, after all.

“You don’t have a girlfriend,” Partsman said coldly. “There is no way you have one. You don’t even shower.”

He was a tall, brown-haired man with long limbs that seemed to belong to a spider. The bronze skin and the dark brown eyes all pointed towards him being part of the Long-Limbed Tribe.

“Some girls like smelly men,” Collingham grinned. “You are just jealous, Partsman!”

Partsman scoffed. He was the only one that dared to joke with Collingham. After all, he was as infamous.

He was currently in a Maximum Security Prison, sentenced for life, for a crime so horrible that it made even the most hardened criminals shudder.

Why was he allowed to play Black Online? The warden had made a deal with him. In exchange for allowing him to play, everything that he earned would go to the warden.

Partsman had made the warden a very rich man already.

“Why did I have to come here…” Nicholas rolled his eyes in annoyance. “I was in the middle of watching a good anime.”

Nicholas had a bowl-cut, black in color. He looked like an ordinary nerd that one would find at an anime convention. He had a slim build, like he couldn’t possibly lift anything heavier than a pencil.

“Zzz… tch…” Distortion kept twisting, like he was being electrocuted every second. “Zzz… tch… zzz…”

He had dark eyes. Wide-open, as if he refused to blink, and very creepy. There wasn’t much known about Distortion.

He was the strangest member of Dead Redemption and easily the most mysterious—nobody understood where Leon found him.

Not even other members of Dead Redemption.

“…” Next to Distortion stood a man named R. Just the letter. “…”

He was mute. He had never spoke a word.

And lastly, the second girl of Dead Redemption, Alice. She had shoulder-length black hair, pale skin, and blood-red eyes.

Almost like she was a vampire. Nobody knew much about her either. She was always mysterious and kept to herself.

Dead Redemption members only knew her name. That was it. They didn’t know anything about her private life.

“Enough,” Leon pushed past them. “We have a mission to focus on.”

They followed behind Leon, and he walked all the way to the entrance of the Monster Backyard, then he looked at the campsite that was owned by 88th ranked guild.

“…Leon,” the guild master of Uranus stood up nervously. “I-Is there something you want?”

“Yes,” Leon said. “I want your tent and everything.”

“Ah?”

The guild master of Uranus was shocked. Then he looked at other members of Dead Redemption. They were sharpening their weapons.

It was like if he planned to say “no,” it would be the last thing he would say.The members of Uranus started to pack their stuff already.

“Sure…” he said and stepped aside. “It’s all yours.”

Dead Redemption took over the campsite, kicked the members of Uranus out, and then sat down around the fire.

“How scary,” Machary said while sitting over at the Rose Records campsite. “He managed to make Uranus back off without a fight.”

“It’d be foolish to fight them. Uranus would stand no chance. They’ve definitely become more arrogant since the previous Dead Redemption disbanded.”

Waylen said.

“How do you think their strength fares?” Machary asked. “Are they stronger or weaker than before?”

“Weaker, without a doubt.” Della sat by the fire. “However, they are now more dangerous. It’d be wise to avoid them as well as we can.”

Everyone agreed with that.

“I don’t think avoiding them really is possible. They are not here just for the monsters. They are here to Player Kill as well.”

Fang Raon, with just a quick glance, was able to find out everything he needed to know about the New Dead Redemption.

They were lunatics. Sadistic. And completely unpredictable.

‘Leon seems to have lost his mind,’ he thought. ‘After getting betrayed last time, he responded by surrounding himself with mentally unstable lunatics.’

“Everyone!” At that moment, the member of Twelve Elder Council shouted. “Grinder’s Day will officially start in twenty-five minutes. When the timer reaches zero, you all can enter the Monster Backyard!”

He snapped his fingers, and a holographic clock appeared in the sky. It was slowly ticking down.

“May the best guild win.”

He said with a smile.

Everyone quickly finished their preparations. Over a hundred guilds were gathered. Truly the gathering of the strongest.

Thirty seconds remained…

Twenty seconds!

Ten seconds!

Five!

Four!

Three!

Two!

One!

“START!”

Everyone ran straight inside the Monster Backyard. The fog was intense. The mages with wind abilities quickly cleared the fog.

SPLASH!

At that moment, by the fog-shrouded pond, a large splash sounded. Water splashed everywhere. From there, emerged a massive creature with glowing red eyes.

It was a massive anaconda with interesting blue scales. Its tongue flicked in and out, tasting the air.

“It’s Monster Anaconda!” A player screamed.

The anaconda shot towards the player and swallowed them whole. It swallowed him like a piece of candy.

Players shuddered. That might be the most terrifying way to die.

“Zzzz…” At that moment, Distortion walked towards the anaconda, with zero fear. “Zzzz… tch…”

The anaconda turned towards Distortion. It opened its massive mouth with its fangs dripping with venom. It then shot forward like a lightning bolt.

“Zzzz.”

Distortion pointed his hand towards the sky. A dark cloud appeared above the swamp. In that moment, a deafening thunderclap echoed through the air.

SWOOSH! ZZZZZZZ!

A lightning bolt came crashing down from the sky. It struck the Monster Anaconda with the full force of its electrifying power.

The anaconda hissed loudly as it writhed in pain.

At that moment, Leon drew his white-ribboned sword, and he sliced through the air probably a thousand times.

It looked like he had cut through the reality itself. White slash marks appeared on the air. It was a sight to behold.

“White Death.”

The white slashes shot towards the anaconda and sliced through it. The anaconda let out a deafening roar, but then its head was cleanly severed from its body, falling to the ground with a heavy thud.

Then, the rest of its body was also cut into a thousand tiny cube-like pieces. Cubes of flesh and scales.

BEEP! BEEP!

[1. Dead Redemption – 10 Points]

Leon walked nonchalantly past the dead anaconda. Dead Redemption followed. They disappeared into the thick forest.

The players were amazed, but they then quickly gathered their thoughts and also started running towards the other parts of Monster Backyard.

Sure, New Dead Redemption was strong, but it didn’t guarantee their victory. They might get unlucky and fail to find any monsters.

Anybody could win as long as they managed to find monsters and kill them quickly before anyone stole them!

“Where do we go?” Machary asked. “It’s so foggy.”

“Raon,” Della looked at her fiancée. “Where do we go?”

It sounded like she was intending for Fang Raon to be the team leader, which surprised him. It had always been her.

Fang Raon touched the wet ground with his hand. He closed his eyes. His Read swept through the land.

“Let’s head south.” Fang Raon stood up and patted off the dust from his knees. “I sensed quite many presences there.”

Della nodded, and she then led everyone as they started making their way down south.

“Impressive usage of Read,” Rock told him. “It looks like you have surpassed me already.”

“It’s not like you being so humble,” Fang Raon smirked. “I know you were also able to sense them.”

“Fine, I won’t compliment you anymore. Shitty little brat.”

Rock smirked.
