Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Either Reform Him or Descend To Hell With Him
As soon as Sui Sui emerged from the dimension, the first thing he saw was Yizhou’s falling figure.
He immediately rushed forward, moving as fast as he could to catch him. The sudden weight nearly made him stumble when Yizhou fell into his arms, but Sui Sui quickly steadied himself and carefully lowered them both to the ground.
Once he had settled into a more stable position, Sui Sui immediately checked Yizhou’s pulse.
It was still there.
Sui Sui let out a long breath of relief.
He quickly took several healing pills from his storage pouch, then retrieved a few bottles of the Spirit Water he had obtained from the cave. Without wasting any more time, he carefully fed the pills to Yizhou and helped him drink the Spirit Water.
Yizhou’s condition was terrible.
His body was almost completely charred black from the intensity of the lightning tribulation, and numerous wounds covered his skin. Some were still bleeding, while others had already begun to scab over. After consuming the pills and Spirit Water, the wounds gradually began to heal, but only slightly.
Afterall, Injuries caused by heavenly lightning were not something that could be healed so easily and it would definitely take time.
Sui Sui still didn’t know whether Yizhou had suffered any internal injuries. He could only hope that there was no serious damage.
After seeing Yizhou’s complexion gradually improve, Sui Sui finally stopped administering the medicine and let out a sigh of relief.
However, his relief did not last long. As he continued examining Yizhou’s body, he suddenly noticed another crucial detail. He had not noticed it earlier because Yizhou’s skin had been almost completely charred black from the lightning tribulation. Now that some of the burns had begun to heal, however, strange black patterns had become visible across his body.
The patterns spread from his torso, covering his chest and back before extending upward toward his neck and even reaching his face.
Sui Sui’s expression immediately became serious.
These markings were most likely a consequence of Yizhou’s earlier use of demonic power. Although Yizhou was no longer releasing any demonic energy, the markings were still not a good sign.
Either way, after noticing the strange markings on Yizhou’s body, Sui Sui realized that they could not stay here any longer. Although he knew many of the people in Xuánshuāng City, they were not close enough for him to know how they would react if they discovered that Yizhou possessed demonic power.
After everything he had just witnessed in the illusion, Sui Sui could not help but worry that the same thing might happen again.
What if the people who had been friendly toward them now turned against Yizhou What if they accused him of being an accomplice and tried to capture him?
Sui Sui did not want to take that risk and could only decide to leave.
Although he was a little reluctant to leave without saying goodbye to his friends, Sui Sui could only let it go. There would still be plenty of opportunities to meet again in the future, even if next time, they would probably meet under a different identity.
With some effort, Sui Sui took out a black robe and draped it over Yizhou, making sure to cover his body completely before carrying him onto his back.
Fortunately, everyone was still unconscious from the aftermath of the formation. Thankfully though, the formation had already been broken by the power of the lightning tribulation, which meant that those who had survived the earlier attack of the formation would likely wake up soon.
Sui Sui stumbled slightly as he carried Yizhou on his back, but he quickly steadied himself and continued toward the city gates. Fortunately, he was able to leave the city without anyone stopping him.
Sui Sui continued walking along the road, When he had first arrived in Xuánshuāng City, he had come through the teleportation center, so he had never traveled the roads outside the city before.
He had no particular destination in mind. His only goal was to get as far away from Xuánshuāng City as much as possible.
Now that things had come to this, he could only follow the road ahead and hope it would eventually lead them somewhere.
If they encountered any trouble along the way, there was always a last resort. Worst case, Sui Sui could enter his private dimension and reveal its existence to Yizhou.
As Sui Sui continued walking, night finally descended completely, making the journey even more difficult. Fortunately, he had a luminous pearl in his storage pouch, which provided enough light to illuminate the road ahead.
Unfortunately, as though their luck couldn’t get any worse, Sui Sui suddenly felt drops of water falling from the sky.
What the hell?
It was raining.
Of all times, it had to rain now.
Sui Sui could only cry inwardly.
His legs were already aching, his back was sore, and Yizhou felt heavier with every step.
I’m so tired.. So heavy.
He really didn’t want to do this anymore.
The rain soaked through Sui Sui’s clothes, making the fabric slightly translucent. He hadn’t had enough time to cast a barrier around them, so both he and Yizhou were quickly drenched.
Sui Sui adjusted his posture when he felt Yizhou slipping slightly from his back, tightening his grip to keep him securely in place.
"You can just leave me here." Suddenly a hoarse voice sounded from behind, hearing this, Sui Sui was startled. Yizhou, who had been unconscious only moments ago, had actually woken up. But what did he mean by telling him to leave him here?
"If you want to leave, then go," Yizhou said quietly. "I’ll take back the Heart Gu inside you. Once it’s gone, you’ll be free again." The Heart Gu could indeed be withdrawn as long as its caster was willing to do so, and removing it would not cause any harm to the person it had been implanted in if the caster willed it.
However, after hearing those words, Sui Sui was completely stunned and his brain almost short-circuited.
What was this? Yizhou was actually asking him to leave? He was even offering to remove the Heart Gu and set him free? Why?
Wasn’t Yizhou supposed to be someone who trusted no one? Didn’t he only care about his own survival? Wasn’t he always more inclined to use others rather than rely on them?
So why was he willing to let Sui Sui leave while he stayed behind and waited for death?
Sui Sui thought of something.
Omg, could it be that after everything that had happened inside the illusion, the protagonist had actually been so moved by him that some of his old, kindhearted nature was beginning to return?
The more Sui Sui thought about it, the more excited he became. It actually made sense! Yizhou had experienced everything that had happened in the illusion from his own perspective. He had seen Sui Sui stand by his side, defend him, and even risk himself to save him. Perhaps all of that had finally reminded his old self, being the kindhearted protagonist from the original novel.
Omg, omg, omg! Could this really count as success? Sui Sui felt a bit narcissistic with this thought, but he couldn’t think of other reason, Sui Sui almost couldn’t believe it. After all this time, after all the effort he had put into his little operation to rectify the protagonist, he was finally seeing some results!
His heart was practically bursting with joy.
He had succeeded!
Well... perhaps not completely yet, but this was definitely progress!
Sui Sui was so happy that he nearly wanted to jump for joy. However, he forcibly suppressed his excitement and kept a perfectly calm expression on the outside. He couldn’t let Yizhou see how delighted he was. If he acted too eager now, wouldn’t that make all his efforts look suspicious?
No, no. He had to remain composed.
Still, now that he thought about it, his mind retraced back to Yizhou’s words. He offered to remove the Heart Gu?
Well, to be honest, in Sui Sui’s opinion, actually keeping the Heart Gu wasn’t so bad either. After all, it could provide some useful buffs if used correctly, like tracking his location if he ever went missing.
Plus, he had noticed that sometimes, the Heart Gu even seemed to aid his cultivation. When he cultivated, there was some impure energy that came in unfiltered, creating impurities in his body. But he noticed that the little worm inside his body would actually eat those impurities, which greatly helped him.
Sui Sui felt that as long as Yizhou didn’t use it to hurt him, then it was also okay to keep it. So, he wasn’t really that eager to remove it.
Sui Sui was so deep in his own thoughts that he subconsciously pressed himself closer against Yizhou’s back, tightening his arms around him without even realizing it. With all the excitement running through his mind, he had even completely forgotten to answer Yizhou’s question.
All of this went unnoticed by Yizhou. From his perspective, Sui Sui had simply made a renewed effort to hold onto him more tightly.
Yizhou bowed his head, his long black hair falling softly across his face and hiding his expression. He remained quiet on the surface, but his thoughts were actually running rampant.
He remembered what had happened inside the illusion. Of course, the details had already become somewhat vague after waking up, but he could still remember the general sequence of events.
What he wasn’t sure about was whether the person who had appeared inside his illusion was really Sui Sui, or whether it had simply been his own wishful thinking.
If it really had been Sui Sui, then Yizhou didn’t quite know what to feel.
The version of himself inside the illusion was clearly very fond of this person. Those feelings had been so obvious that even now, remembering them left the real Yizhou feeling somewhat confused. It was strange to realize that another version of himself could feel so strongly toward someone, yet those emotions still seemed to belong to him.
But there was something else that bothered him even more.
If this Sui Sui really was the same person who had appeared in his illusion, then it meant that he knew things he definitely should not have known. Things about his past and his memories. Things that no ordinary person could possibly know.
That meant Sui Sui was hiding a lot of things.
Yizhou’s eyes darkened slightly beneath his lowered head. He suddenly wondered just how many secrets this little fool was keeping from him.
So right now, Yizhou was waiting, More precisely, he was testing something. He wanted to know whether he had been mistaken about what had happened inside the illusion. He wanted to see whether the person in front of him would make the same choice he had made there.
So he would give Sui Sui a choice, a last chance.
He would tell him that he could take back the Heart Gu.
He would tell him that Sui Sui could leave.
He would even promise to set him free.
And If Sui Sui really chose to leave, Yizhou would let him.
This was the last bit of kindness Yizhou could offer.
He had almost forgotten what kindness felt like after all the hatred that had accumulated in his heart, but he would let this be his final act of repayment for the sacrifice Bai Suichen had made for him in his past life.
However, if Sui Sui chose to stay...
If, after being given the chance to leave, he still stubbornly remained by his side and continued to provoke him.
Yizhou’s eyelids suddenly flickered as this thought filled his mind.
He did not speak. He simply stared intently at Sui Sui, feeling that familiar, almost manic impulse rising within him once again.
Then stay.
Stay by his side, and he would hold on to him and when he did, then Yizhou would never let him go.
After all, he was a demon, a vile demon from the depths of hell.
Either Sui Sui would reform him, or Yizhou would descend into hell together with him.
