Chapter 451: Argument In The Middle Of The Fight
Lilianna’s mecha’s great sword passed two meters above his cockpit canopy and close enough that the simulated air pressure shook Neville’s mecha’s chassis.
Neville quickly fired his heel thrusters at the absolute bottom of the drop and snapped back up. He used the sword’s momentum against its wielder.
Neville’s mecha rode the back-pressure wave of Lilianna’s own swing in toward her torso. The right hand of his mecha grabbed the plasma blade off his hip.
Shhhing — VWOOOOM.
The blade ignited, a meter of white-hot energy crackling along its core.
Neville hit Lilianna’s mecha’s chest plating.
He hit it hard.
Plasma blade met chest armor with a sound. It was a deep, gut-shaking TONG-FWZZZZZT that flashed his HUD with a static fuzz.
The plasma’s edge bit into the outer plating and slid two centimeters before it suddenly stopped.
Reactive layer engaged, but it wasn’t enough.
However, it was still enough to make a dent.
It was a blackened, slag-edged dent positioned right at the heart of Lilianna’s mecha chest piece.
Neville managed to shove off it with a kick of his Reaper’s knee against her ribs. His mecha somersaulted backward through the air while the plasma blade in his hand was still humming.
Lilianna’s mecha’s cockpit, Lilianna stared at the new red glow on her damage schematic and felt something hot and infuriating crawl up the back of her neck.
"He damaged my mecha?" she said in a tight, gritted-teeth and incredibly furious tone.
’How the f*ck did you let that nobody hit your mecha hard? What the f*ck are we supposed to do now?!’
"He damaged my mecha. He damaged my mecha." Lilianna kept repeating, clearly not listening to the shouts of the voice in her head.
’LISTEN TO ME LILIANNA!’
"He damaged my mecha." She had finally lost her mind.
What followed could only be called the dance.
Lilianna stopped fighting like someone with a strategy and experience befitting her rank. She relentlessly fired and attacked Neville’s mecha.
Her mecha opened all four ports of auxiliary turrets at once. As soon as the cooldown was gone, tracking projectiles spat into the air in a rolling stream.
Lilianna’s mecha had not used the heavy missile cluster since those were still cooling, but a continuous brrrrrrrrrrrrt of self-guiding flak rounds.
Lilianna fanned them in a horizontal cross-pattern. She added a beam launcher pulse when the capacitor blinked green.
FWAACK.
Then a second.
FWAACK.
Lilianna forced Neville’s mecha into a smaller and smaller box of clean air.
Meanwhile, the voice in her head was increasingly becoming frustrated with every breath.
’Have you lost your mind?! How much damage did you actually make with all that ammunition?!’
"The fck I care about that!" Lilianna said, eyes directly following Neville’s elusive mecha.
The voice in her head also saw Neville seemingly dancing amongst the hundreds of beams of ammunition. It couldn’t help but angrily comment.
’Look! You’re just wasting time firing randomly like that!’
Lilianna also saw it and was frustrated, too. But she was even more frustrated when it was pointed out. "It was effective, so what the fck was the problem?!"
The voice in her head angrily replied, ’What effective?! Don’t just fire recklessly! We still need a remaining energy to maintain the thrusters!’
At that moment, Neville’s mecha was suddenly surrounded by ammunition in a small enclosure. However, because of the cooldown, Lilianna couldn’t land another shot at Neville.
Lilianna slammed the control panel in frustration and shouted, "Who cares! I was so close!"
The voice in her head seemed to be seeing the stats of the mecha more clearly than Lilianna and expected it to happen.
It seemed to grit its teeth and said, ’Listen to me, human! If you want to die, then die by yourself!’
The voice in her head didn’t even shout, but Lilianna had just had enough of the nagging and almost slapped her own head just to stop the voice in her head from talking.
"Shout at me one more time!" Lilianna shouted.
Neville began to throw a few projectiles at Lilianna’s mecha, but Lilianna’s mecha was just too slow and was hit left and right. But there was no huge damage to report in the HUD despite the tremors they could feel inside the cockpit.
The voice in her head couldn’t help but curse at Lilianna.
’Fcking human. Think! Think!’
Lilianna couldn’t help it anymore and snapped, "Shut up!"
The voice in her head did indeed shut up and let Lilianna pilot for a good while.
Seeing how useless her strategies were in this round, she couldn’t help but sigh in a fit of anger.
It murmured, ’If you’re not going to listen to me, then you’re useless.’
Lilianna was about to ask since she didn’t hear it clearly, but her head started to ache. The HUD screen was beginning to blur in front of her.
"What was happening?!" Lilianna said in a panic, forgetting to initiate another projectile shot.
A dull pain began to spread in her head. It wasn’t exactly painful, but it was so persistent and in a certain rhythm that Lilianna felt like she was going crazy.
’You want more?’ the voice in her head coldly said.
Lilianna’s eyes were hazy. She couldn’t think how it could be even possible inside the game. "What are you doing? What are you?"
’Who cares what I am?’ The voice in her head continued, ’If you’re not going to listen to me, then you don’t deserve to control this body.’
"What?" Lilianna began to feel an increasingly sharp pain in her head.
She didn’t know what was going on. But she knew that if she didn’t do as the voice in her head said, she would continue to experience this pain in her head.
"Fine. Fine." Lilianna said, almost sobbing. "Fine. I’ll do it. Stop it. Stop it now."
The voice in her head didn’t immediately reply.
When it did, it coldly said, ’You should’ve done that sooner.’
Lilianna’s pain in the head suddenly disappeared. Questions arose in her mind, but she couldn’t afford to think about that. She was in the middle of a match that she couldn’t afford to lose.
Lilianna pursed her lips, took a deep breath, and checked her mecha and its stats.
