Chapter 116: Chapter 116: The Angel Finally Bites Back
~Third- POV~
Once Reynold had everything he needed, Frederick walked over to him and took his hand, lacing their fingers together as they left the master suite and descended the grand staircase to the dining room for breakfast.
As they settled into their seats, Frederick turned to the head housekeeper. "Please send two maids upstairs to bring down our luggage. Everything is already packed."
"Yes, Mr. Corvin," the head housekeeper replied respectfully before instructing two maids to carry the luggage downstairs.
Reynold picked up his orange juice and glanced at Frederick with a sweet, beaming smile, his heart fluttering with anticipation for the exciting day ahead.
They ate breakfast in peaceful comfort while the housemaids carried their luggage outside for the driver to load into the vehicles.
After finishing their meal, they stood up. Frederick smoothed the lapels of his crisp white suit before leaning over to adjust Reynold’s pink jacket, straightening the shoulders with a satisfied look. He then took Reynold’s hand, lacing their fingers together.
Before leaving, Frederick gave the head housekeeper a few final instructions. She bowed respectfully. "I understand, sir. Have a safe flight, Mr. Corvin."
"Thank you," Frederick replied.
He led Reynold through the front doors to the driveway, where two sleek black cars were waiting. One was reserved for Frederick and Reynold, while the other carried their security team.
As they approached the first car, their driver immediately opened the rear door and greeted him. "Good morning, sir."
The surrounding bodyguards echoed the greeting. "Good morning, sir!"
"Morning," Frederick acknowledged briefly.
He let Reynold slide into the back seat first before getting in beside him. The driver closed the door, hurried around to his seat, started the engine, and pulled away from the mansion, with the security vehicle following closely behind.
As they drove along the highway, Frederick’s phone rang. He took it out and answered the call from Cassian, who was confirming that the press conference arrangements were finalized and the invited journalists were waiting at headquarters.
"I’ll be there soon," Frederick replied calmly before ending the call.
He slipped his phone away and pulled Reynold closer, resting an arm securely around his shoulders as the journey continued.
Reynold relaxed against Frederick’s broad frame, enjoying the steady hum of the car and the familiar scent of Frederick’s cologne.
A short while later, the convoy entered the underground executive parking garage at Corvin Enterprises. Once the car stopped, a bodyguard opened the door. Frederick stepped out first, then offered Reynold a hand to help him out.
Together, they made their way to the private executive elevator, which took them directly to the top floor.
Staff members bowed and greeted Frederick quietly as they passed. Cassian, his personal assistant, stepped forward to meet them.
"Good morning, Mr. Corvin."
Frederick gave him a brief nod and led Reynold straight into his spacious corner office. He settled Reynold onto the plush leather sofa before calling his secretary over and instructing him to bring Reynold anything he wanted.
Then Frederick leaned down and pressed a warm kiss to Reynold’s cheek.
"I’ll be back soon, sweetheart."
Reynold smiled up at him. "Okay, Daddy."
Frederick stepped into the hallway with Cassian, leaving his secretary to attend to Reynold’s needs.
"Do you need anything right now, sir?" the secretary asked politely.
"Not yet, thank you. I’ll let you know if I need anything," Reynold replied gently.
The secretary bowed and stepped out, leaving Reynold alone in the spacious office.
Reynold leaned back against the cushions and pulled out his phone, scrolling through social media to pass the time while Frederick attended to his meeting. He watched a few funny videos, chuckling softly to himself.
Half an hour passed, then an hour. Eventually, feeling a little hungry, Reynold called the secretary and requested a light snack and a cold drink. They were promptly brought to him.
Two hours slipped by, and Reynold kept glancing at the grand double doors, missing Frederick’s presence. By the time nearly three hours had passed, the doors suddenly swung open without warning.
"Ma’am! You can’t go in there! Please, Mr. Corvin’s orders!" the secretary called anxiously from the doorway.
Reynold looked up in surprise as an elegantly dressed woman pushed past the staff and entered the office. It was Eva.
Eva stopped just inside the room, sweeping her gaze across the pristine office until her eyes landed on Reynold, who was sitting on the sofa. She turned to the flustered secretary with a bitter smirk.
"So this trash can sit in here, but I can’t?"
"I’m deeply sorry, ma’am, but those are strict instructions directly from Mr. Corvin," the secretary explained nervously, stepping in front of her.
"Get out!" Eva snapped, glaring at him with cold disdain. "Leave us alone right now, or I’ll make sure Frederick fires you."
"Ma’am, I can’t leave you alone in—"
"I said OUT!" she shouted, stepping forward until the secretary reluctantly retreated and closed the heavy doors behind him.
Silence fell over the spacious office, leaving Eva and Reynold alone.
Reynold sat up straight, gripping the edge of his pink suit jacket. His heart began to pound as panic washed over him. He knew how rude and cruel Eva could be, and with Frederick not there to protect him, he couldn’t help wondering why she was walking toward him.
Eva scoffed and adjusted her designer coat as she strolled toward the sofa, her heels clicking against the polished hardwood floor.
"Look at you. Frederick is really trying to make you fit into high society, isn’t he? Wow, he’s spending so much money on you."
Reynold swallowed hard, keeping his mouth shut.
Stopping in front of the coffee table, Eva crossed her arms and looked down at him with pure disgust. "I already know Frederick is in an executive board meeting and won’t be done anytime soon."
Uncomfortable with her looming over him, Reynold shifted as he tried to stand up.
"Who gave you permission to stand up?!" Eva snapped, stepping forward and shoving him hard by the shoulder, forcing him back onto the sofa.
Reynold gasped softly at the impact, his cheeks burning with fear and indignation. He looked up at her, trying to keep his voice steady despite the rapid pounding of his heart.
"What do you want, ma’am?"
"You dare ask me that question, you cheap whore?!" Eva sneered, her eyes flashing with contempt.
Reynold winced at the insult, but he lifted his head and met her gaze. "Please, ma’am... don’t call me that."
"Shut your mouth!" Eva barked, stepping closer. "You penniless little boy! I told you to meet me when I contacted you, and you refused! You didn’t even have the courtesy to reply!"
Reynold took a small, steadying breath, holding on to the courage Frederick had given him.
"Why would I meet with you when my man asked me not to?"
Eva stared at him in disbelief before letting out a harsh, bitter laugh. "Are you out of your mind?! You’re calling a man old enough to be your father ’your man’?!"
Reynold didn’t flinch. A faint smile tugged at his lips as he met Eva’s furious gaze. "Well, sorry to disappoint you, but he’s not my father. He’s my man."
Eva’s face twisted with anger. "You actually think you’re worth sitting in front of me and talking back to me?!"
Reynold fell silent, refusing to feed her anger.
Eva scoffed and reached into her luxury handbag. "Fine. I know how people like you operate. All you want is money. Name your price. Any amount you want, and you’ll pack your things and leave Frederick forever."
Reynold shook his head gently, looking at her sincerely. "I don’t understand what you’re talking about, ma’am. I don’t want your money, and I certainly don’t need anything from you."
"Can you stop pretending?!" Eva shouted. "I know all you want is money, and that’s why you’re with Frederick!"
"You’re wrong to think that way," Reynold replied immediately. "I’m certainly not with Frederick because of his money."
"Oh, please!" Eva laughed mockingly, rolling her eyes. "What else could possibly be the reason you’re sleeping with a man seventeen years older than you?!"
"I’m with him because I love him," Reynold replied firmly, his dark eyes reflecting his unwavering devotion.
"And you think he actually loves you back?!"
"I don’t think he loves me back, ma’am. I’m certain he does. We feel the same way about each other, and it’s obvious you know that too."
"Will you shut your stinky mouth?!" Eva shouted, her voice rising with jealousy. "You are so delusional! You’re nothing more than a pathetic whore he picked up off the street!"
Hearing the insult again was more than Reynold could tolerate. His expression changed, his fear giving way to quiet resolve.
"Please don’t call me a whore," Reynold said firmly, meeting her gaze. "It’s insulting, and it isn’t true."
"How dare you talk back to me?!" Eva shrieked, raising her hand in fury.
Before she could slap him, Reynold stood up straight and stepped into her space, his expression hardening as he looked her directly in the eyes.
"If you dare slap me, I’ll slap you back," he warned, his voice quiet but firm. His unexpected defiance caught Eva off guard.
"I want you to listen carefully. Frederick will never be yours again," Reynold muttered, his voice steady and cold. "Not just because he doesn’t want you, but because I will never let him choose you. Even if I ever leave him, I’ll make sure he never ends up with you again. And for your information, I’m not going anywhere."
Eva gasped, her jaw dropping in shock as she stared at Reynold who had dared to talk back to her.
Before she could recover, Reynold raised his hand and shoved her chest, pushing her several steps away from him.
Eva stumbled backward in her high heels, clutching her designer coat as her eyes widened in disbelief. "Did you just touch me?!"
Reynold began pacing slowly in front of her, his posture graceful and composed. He swept his gaze over her from head to toe, taking in her appearance with cool disdain...
