Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Let Me Make You Happy
Elisha stood and held out his hand. Henry took it, and they walked back toward the living room together, their fingers intertwined.
When they stepped back into the living room, they quietly returned to their seats beside each other, exchanging a brief, reassuring glance. They were ready to excuse themselves and leave, hoping to get Henry something to eat so he could relax a little.
Before either of them could stand, Elisha’s father cleared his throat and raised a hand to stop them.
"Don’t rush off just yet," he said firmly. "There’s one more thing the family has decided to discuss before you leave."
Henry stiffened slightly beside Elisha, his anxiety beginning to return.
Elisha’s grandfather leaned forward, resting both hands on his cane. "Given the public attention surrounding your relationship, how quickly this marriage has been arranged, and the weight of our family names, we cannot afford to treat this as a passing decision."
Elisha’s father nodded. "Our legal team is already preparing a formal agreement. Once you are married, it will be legally binding. There will be no impulsive separation or reckless behavior, and divorce will not be an option unless there is an extreme and legally proven reason."
The words hung heavily in the room, making the sudden wedding plans feel even more serious.
Elisha’s jaw tightened slightly, but he didn’t hesitate. He glanced at Henry’s pale, overwhelmed face before turning back to the family.
"You don’t have to worry about that," Elisha said. "There won’t be any reason for us to divorce after the wedding." He gave his father and grandfather a confident nod. "Go ahead and prepare the document. Send it over when it’s ready. Henry and I will sign it."
He turned to Henry, his expression softening. "Am I right? There’s no reason in this world for us to ever get divorced, right?"
Henry blinked and looked at Elisha for a moment. After a brief pause, he simply nodded. "He’s right," Henry said, looking at the family. "You can prepare it. We’ll sign it."
Elisha’s grandfather gave a satisfied nod. "Since that is settled, there is nothing more to worry about."
After a few more minutes of discussing the wedding arrangements, Elisha cleared his throat and offered the room a respectful smile. "If there’s nothing else, I think we should head home."
Henry stood beside him and said his goodbyes to his parents, while Elisha respectfully greeted his own parents and grandparents.
Without wasting another moment, Elisha reached for Henry’s hand and intertwined their fingers. "Let’s go.
They walked side by side out of the mansion, the heavy doors closing behind them. Outside, the driver was already waiting beside the car. He quickly stepped forward and opened the back door.
Elisha gently guided Henry inside first before climbing in beside him. Once the door closed and the car pulled away, Elisha wrapped an arm around Henry’s waist and pulled him closer, letting Henry rest his head against his shoulder.
As the car moved through the quiet streets, Elisha stared out the tinted window, his thoughts already turning to the wedding. Two weeks was an incredibly short time to prepare, but if they were going to do this, he wanted to give it everything he had. He wanted to make sure Henry felt loved, safe, and cared for throughout the preparations. More than anything, he wanted to take away the doubts still weighing on Henry and make this the happiest Chapter of his life.
Looking down at Henry, Elisha gently stroked his arm. "Hey, pretty... I want to take you out later. Just the two of us. What do you think?"
Henry let out a soft breath, his eyes half-closed. "Anything you want."
Elisha smiled and pressed a soft kiss to his hair. "Okay, pretty."
Not long after, the car turned onto the familiar street and pulled through the open security gates of Henry’s estate. The driver parked near the entrance and quickly got out to open the door.
Elisha stepped out first, then reached back into the car and took Henry’s hand, helping him out.
Together, they walked inside and headed straight to Henry’s bedroom.
The moment the bedroom door clicked shut behind them, the weight of the morning caught up with Henry. Without a word, he kicked off his shoes and stripped off his formal clothes until he was left only in his boxers. He climbed onto the bed without bothering to put on a shirt, pulled the duvet up over his shoulders, and turned his back to Elisha.
Elisha sighed softly. He kicked off his shoes, removed his jacket, and climbed onto the bed behind Henry. He wrapped an arm around Henry’s waist and moved closer until his lips brushed against Henry’s ear.
"Pretty..." he murmured softly. "I know everything is happening so fast, and you have a lot on your mind. But tell me honestly... are you happy about the wedding? Are you happy to marry me?"
Henry shifted beneath the covers, his voice muffled by the pillow. "I’m just tired, Elisha. I’m happy."
Elisha frowned slightly and rested a hand on Henry’s back. "Then why didn’t I see any excitement in your eyes back there? It felt like something was bothering you."
Henry slowly turned onto his back to face him. "I’m happy to marry you, but I don’t understand why they’re rushing us into marriage like we can’t make decisions for ourselves. We could have—" He stopped himself and shook his head. "Never mind. I just want to rest. I’m really, truly tired."
Elisha didn’t push him. He understood how Henry felt about everything, but he still wanted him to give their marriage a chance.
"I understand how you feel about all of this, but please, think about us. Think about me. We can work everything out after the wedding. I want to be with you. I don’t want to spend a single day without knowing you’re mine." He gently cupped Henry’s face. "Please, pretty. Just take it slowly and accept this wedding. Don’t think about the marriage they’re rushing us into. Think of it as you choosing me and accepting me as your husband."
Henry looked into his eyes for a moment before taking Elisha’s hand and kissing the back of it.
"Okay, baby."
Elisha gently brushed a stray lock of hair away from Henry’s forehead.
"Alright," he whispered. "I’ll go downstairs so you can rest. I also need to make some calls about the wedding and clear my schedule."
Henry gave a small nod. "Alright."
Elisha leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to his forehead before quietly getting out of bed...
