Chapter 34: Chapter 34- Never ending Snow

"Don’t get ahead of yourself, kid." Alaric looked back at his father and Osamu, who spun his scythe. "Remember, we’re the professionals here." He looked towards him and winked, "You’ll back us up."

Alaric frowned and turned back towards the Ice Alien in the air. He guess he can’t be picky right now, considering he wasn’t meant to be here... then fine.

"Alright everyone! Let’s go!" Osamu shouted, before everyone launched towards the floating Alien, while Alaric stayed behind. He narrowed his eyes and disappeared into a cloud of smoke.

Osamu led the assault, spinning his scythe as the Ice Alien turned towards them. Its shoulders dropped as the black haired man swung his scythe. The Alien ducked under it and clenched its fist, ice forming over it as he swung it out. But, Garnok appeared in front of the strike, blocking it with his body. Frost began to cloud his chest as the icicles exploded out. Osamu grabbed his shoulder, pulling him back as he reached into a portal, ripping out a ball of darkness, slamming it into the Alien’s chest, a blast of black sending it flying through the air.

As it flew back, its eyes darted around, as if looking for something. It blinked and looked ahead, as Osamu was on its tail, his face clouded in shadow as dark aura radiated off his shoulders. He spread his arms and above the city, dozens of portals opened and began to rain down dark arrows towards the Alien’s location. It spun in the air and flew, dodging and weaving past the arrows. At least, it was before a kanji appeared and it froze in place. It was perfectly used to this trick at this point. It turned its head and broke out in only a second, but that was enough for one arrow to catch its shoulder, making it spin out of control.

Osamu blinked and smirked, "Neat trick." He said aloud as he quickly followed, letting a pair of pure black wings sprout from his back. He spun his staff and slashed the air, a cut of pure black darkness, cutting into the building, as it began to swallow its color and diced up instantly.

Alaric nearby, still cloaked in mist, watched with awe. So this is what the strongest of the world could do... they stood no chance!

The Ice Alien spun in the air and caught its bearing, narrowing its eyes. Its eyebrows shot wide as he turned, and a big burly man stood there with his arm poised and ready to strike, his face shrouded in darkness, and eyes glowing an intimidating white. It tried to react fast enough, lifting an arm to block to strike, but the man’s muscles tightened and slammed into its arm. His arm pulsed, and starting from the shoulder, it grew larger and slid down the arm under a large burst of power pushed the Alien back.

Osamu followed up, swiping his wings outward, an army of dark feathers darting directly for it. It caught itself in the air, its head hanging low. As the feathers neared, it lifted its head, eyes completely blank. A large wall of ice erected between it and the feathers. As the feathers stabbed into the ice wall, it began to eat away at it. The Alien reacted fast, kicking the wall sending it rocketing towards Osamu. He cut the dark ice wall with his scythe, the two pieces flying past him, exploding in the air behind him.

In a burst of speed, the Alien launched forward, its body encased in an ice armor. It swung its fist out, as Osamu blocked and shoved it away. But, in the middle, it opened its hand and constructed an ice blade, gripping it tight, pulling it back to block an incoming strike from Osamu scythe. They began to clash weapons, the alien slowly picking up speed, making it harder for Osamu to react, nearly catching his side with the icy blade. It swiped the blade, a slash of ice crashing against Osamu’s chest, pushing him back as it quickly followed up with a barrage of small icicles. The black haired man pulled his wings against him to block them, but as they stabbed into them, frostbite began to coat them, harsh pain seeping into him. He clenched his teeth... but luckily Garnok was there to support. He jumped from his vantage point and raised his arms, ready for an overhead. But the Alien was quicker. It reached up and grabbed the man’s arms, frost seeping into his skin, before pulling him down, swinging him and throwing him into Osamu, sending them both crashing into the ground below.

Nearby, Alaric clenched his fists. This wasn’t making sense. It didn’t fight like this before...! He launched off the roof and swung his staff against it, but it didn’t budge. Due to the attack, his [Cloud Step] skill went away, revealing his form to the Alien. It turned and swung its fist, cracking against Alaric’s cheek. It followed up with a strike to the chest, a kick to his side and ending with a swift overhead strike to his head, making him crash into the ground. The power caused a crater to spiderweb underneath him, making him cough him blood.

Was this to suggest that no matter how hard he and Arthur fought, they were never meant to win!?

The Alien launched forward and flipped, ice coating its boot. It slammed its foot against his arm, the sharp ice stabbing deep into his right arm. If that wasn’t enough, the power shot through his arm, and he felt his bones crack, a sharp cry of pain echoing through the cityscape. His eyes bulged, nearly popping out of the sockets, as drool and blood spilled down his chin from the intense scream. It lifted up, and blood spilled from the holes due to the stab, and his arm laid limp on the ground. Its eyes were dull and narrow, turning away as a pillar of darkness exploded from another nearby crater. It tilted its head, a fast dark orb racing past its head.

The two pulled themselves from the crater, and both their faces were covered in darkness. Veins bulged from Garnok’s clenched fists as he launched off the ground, putting cracks in the ground. He launched towards the Alien, a raging cry echoing through the city as he swung his empowered fist. The Alien held up a hand and pressed it against his hand, pushing his strike. Above Garnok, Osamu swung his scythe down, but the Alien maneuvered past it. Garnok twisted his body and threw out a kick towards its skull, but it lifted an arm and blocked it. It held up a hand, and mist escaped its hand, pushing Garnok back, as Osamu’s hand twisted, becoming a skeleton. He reached into a portal and three small demons appeared, charging blindly against the Alien, charging darkness in its hands. It lifted its head and waved its hand effortlessly, eradicating the demons in one attack. Osamu’s eyes widened as he began to charge a beam of darkness in his skeletal hand. The Alien stood its ground, but its eyes lifted slightly, blinking. Osamu was lost for a second, but while it was distracted, he could attack!

But, suddenly the Alien lowered its eyes and smiled softly. It began to float, flying into the sky. Osamu lifted his head, a frown plastered on his face as he neared his attack.

It opened its hands, mist escaping its pours, as it began to encompass the entire city, as if it wasn’t already a frozen land. Garnok from nearby watched and his eyes widened.

It wasn’t covering this part of the city, but the rest...! The rest of the city began to freeze over, buildings and roads alike freezing solid. Osamu felt sweat roll down his head as he shot his hand forward, an intense blast of black power roaring out towards the Ice Alien. The blast neared and neared and it didn’t budge and inch. The sky erupted into black, making the city appear as if night had fallen. Osamu let out a breath and waited for the Alien to drop. Once the sky cleared... it was no longer there!

He blinked and stood straight, flying up into the air. He searched and searched, but clearly it wasn’t here anymore. He screamed, "Search the entire city! Find that bastard!" He called out as he flew out. But Garnok wasn’t worried about that, he quickly raced towards his son, who laid limp against the frozen concrete. He kneeled down and pulled the boy’s head into his lap.

Alaric’s eyes were blank, his mouth hanging open and dripping blood. His arm was limp and bloodied... and slightly blue, which was likely due to the ice stabbing into him. He leaned forward and pressed his head against the boy’s chest, closing his head as his heart was ready to stop.

But, he could hear faint breathing and even a faint heartbeat. He let out a heavy sigh of relief, closing his eyes and letting his shoulders drop. He opened them and looked at his son, standing up, carrying him in his arms. He began to walk, towards one of the various police vehicles nearby, they’ll be able to take care of him, while he’s by his side the entire time. He was happy his son was alive... but he was disappointed in himself... He wasn’t supposed to let his son get hurt. He shouldn’t have even let him be here... he should’ve put his foot down and told him to go home or back to the academy. As he stared at his face, he felt his eyes turn glassy. "I’m sorry... son..."
