Binding To The Monkey God
Chapter 26- Team Comp
Chapter 26: Chapter 26- Team Comp
Horns blared throughout the campus, signaling to the rest of the students that the Team Event was around to begin. Most teams had already joined together to discuss their plans and strategies.
Alaric had sat along the grass alongside his own team, who talked among themselves as he went over his plan once more in his head. Of course, matches haven’t been announced as of yet, so he was stuck with his current plan. He lifted his head and opened his eyes, "Everyone." He called out softly as their voices quieted down, turning their attention towards him.
Alaric leaned forward, resting his hands on his knees, "Listen, for now, this is our plan." He looked towards Clorissa first, "Clorissa, you’re our most valuable member. For the most part, I’m going to need you to stay in the back and support us. But if I ever need you in the front, be ready."
Clorissa tightened the grip on her staff, nodding softly.
"Aluxio, you’re going to be with me. You and Me will be fighting in the front, while also keeping our eyes where we can see Clorissa." He pointed, "It will be our job to make sure no one gets near her. Yes, she can handle her own, but without her support we’ll fall apart."
Aluxio looked off, thinking before nodding, "Got it, protect Clorissa while fighting in the front. Simple enough."
Alaric narrowed his eyes before turning towards Arthur, "And Arthur. As I’ve mentioned, you’ll be our eyes. I want you to start by darting around the area to see what our opponents are working with. After that, I want you to flank their blind spots, take down their defenses and supports if they have any." He explained as Arthur softly nodded, "Alright..."
Alaric leaned back and looked up towards the large monitor, "We’ll get earpieces so we can talk even from afar. The plan will change depending on our opponents. So be ready for anything, alright?"
They were silent and Alaric clapped his hands, "Alright." He sprang up to his feet and turned towards their room, which was Labeled ’109’. He pushed open the door and let out a breath. He glanced towards the full length mirror, gazing at the attire they were required to wear, a tank top with their team number plastered on the front, pants and sneakers. He swiped the earpieces from the table and felt his ears twitch. The door was left ajar, but he could only faintly hear the announcement of the matches. He quickly walked out and looked up towards the screen. It seemed to scroll through the teams, giving people enough time to see who they were fighting against. They were team 109, so it was still some time until theirs would be shown.
He reached his team and tossed one earpiece each, "Here. Put it in your good ear so you can hear clearly." He instructed while fastening his earpiece into his right ear.
The team did as instructed and placed the piece inside their ear. Clorissa lowered her arms, "Alaric, our team." She pointed up, as he immediately turned to look.
Sure enough, it was team 109 against team 110.
He narrowed his eyes, and they suddenly shot wide.
Team 110- Team Leader: Jiro Stormtail,
Bramor Ashridge
Kordra Vex
Valen Emberforge
Their pictures weren’t provided, definitely to test adaptability, but those last three names weren’t what he was worried about. That guy, Jiro... the one who houses the God of Thunder System, Zeus. He’s going against him?
He immediately turned back towards his team, "I don’t know much about the other three, but.. their team leader, Jiro, I know about him."
Clorissa blinked and pushed a finger into her cheek, "Ah, that boy in our magic class!"
He nodded, "Yes, he has a lightning system. So he’s obviously the power house of the team." He looked towards Aluxio, "If he gets to Clorissa we’re done for. I’m not saying place all your attention on him, but if I’m having trouble, do not hesitate to come help."
He nodded and Alaric looked over his shoulder.
He’s already facing off against him... could this event get any better? It wasn’t a one v one, but it was better than nothing. This was his chance... chance to prove that his Monkey King system was the right one.
Soon, everyone was instructed to move towards their rooms, where the headmaster would teleport them all towards their battlegrounds. Following instructions, team 109 arrived towards their rooms and waited. Alaric stepped up, "Does everyone remember the plan and their roles?"
They all gave a sharp nod, leaving no room for doubt.
"Good. Good luck everyone." He turned and the world warped around them. Suddenly, they appeared in a city landscape. The entire area was coated in a blue glow and tint, the faint smell of oil and asphalt.
Alaric tested the ground under him. He opened his hand and grabbed his staff out of thin air, spinning it as his gaze snapped towards the screen displaying their scores.
"Attention students. Before we start, let me remind everyone of the rules. Do not kill your opponents." The person said before flashing the rules and point system on the opposite monitor. "Here is how you earn points. Do your best and be sure to have fun!"
At the same time, a loud horn blared, and a five minute timer began. "Let’s go!" Alaric roared as the team rushed through the cityscape. Arthur pivots, using his [Dash] skill for a quick burst of momentum, running at super speed. Thanks to the boost, he was instantly moving at a blinding speed. He began to maneuver past the tall buildings, before passing one, he noticed something. Someone was flying in the air!
It was a woman, she was dressed in armor with large black wings flapping in the air. She seemed to notice him, and with a tightening grip on her spear, flying directly towards him.
"Shit..." he cursed before quickly pivoting in the opposite direction, making sure not to kill his momentum. He tapped his earpiece, "No dice guys! I wasn’t able to see much!" He turned and the woman was hot on his tail. "All I got to see was some woman in armor flying with a spear!"
Alaric listened on the line before his brain started working. A woman in armor? And wings... that sounds like a text book Valkyrie. So that’s one of their oppoents... What would be the best case scenario for that? He whistled and Sky appeared, flying towards Clorissa. "Stay with Sky! If the flying girl comes for you, Sky will keep you safe!" He screamed as Clorissa nodded and quickly hopped onto Sky. He looked forward as he felt his body shudder. He paused as it felt like thousands of jolts of electricity entered his body in less than a second.
...
A large hole exploded in front of them, blue electricity sparked around the burning gap. Out came a boy with short jet black hair with a faint blue tint, gray eyes that spark with power, faint lines of lightning traveling up and down his body. Alaric tightened the grip on his staff, as he snapped his gaze towards Aluxio, who held Excalibur in his own grip.
They still didn’t know what the rest of the team was, but for now this would have to work. All they had to do was stick to the plan! Alaric’s eyes glowed blue as [Dash] activated, causing him to dash towards him.
Jiro didn’t move, as a bolt of lightning crackled above before zipping down, ready to strike Alaric down where he stood. Alaric quickly swiped his hand, and kanji appeared above his hand.
Suddenly, the lightning stopped just above Alaric’s head.
Jiro’s eyes widened slightly.
Alaric swiped his staff in an arc, but Jiro weaved past it. Aluxio rushed after him, and swung his blade down. Jiro’s eyes darted and he swiped his arm, electricity sparking at his arm. But before he could, a blast of flames roared out and caught Aluxio’s blade, pushing him back. Alaric’s eyes widened, leaving him open as Jiro’s fist glowed with power. His eyes looked and in a quick motion, he pushed his foot off the ground and he darted back as Jiro swung his arm.
In an instant, the area in front of his fist, exploding with lightning. The wind kicked up and Alaric flew through the air before landing on a building’s roof. He was breathing heavily, sweat building at his temple.
Someone came out of the hole, a man with dark green hair, his eyes a burning orange color. On his finger was a ring, it didn’t look too impressive, but the ring itself glowed with flames. He narrowed his eyes, that’s where that blast of fire came from.
A factor he hasn’t accounted for. But, that’s most of the team. Who’s left? He swung his staff and launched off the roof, quickly dodging a bolt of lightning from Jiro. "Remember the plan Aluxio, handle the fire guy and keep Clorissa safe!" Alaric screamed into the earpieces as he twisted his body and aimed the tip of the staff towards Jiro, extending its length directly towards his chest. The boy lifted his arm and knocked the staff away, making Alaric lose his balance.
Aluxio nodded and launched towards the ring bearer. He gripped the handle of his sword and spun around, bringing the blade down over the ring bearer. But, moving only slightly faster, the green haired boy lifted his ring and a barrier of flames erected, causing the blade to bounce off. While he was open, the ring bearer clenched his fist, aiming the ring squarely at Aluxio’s face. In an instance, flames roared out in a large blast, but when the flames came close to touching, they seemed to be put out! Aluxio blinked from behind a bubble barrier. He smirked nervously and seized the opportunity. In all the confusion, he lifted his legs and delivered a sharp kick to the ring bearer’s chest, knocking him back. He used the momentum to unleash a skill, [Twin Cleave]!
He swung his blade twice, and in the air roared twin blue slashes, racing towards the ring bearer. With no time to react, he tried to throw up a barrier, but in that moment someone stepped in front of the attack, blocking it completely. Aluxio’s eyes traveled up.
It was a man, seeminglyI. He was dressed in metal armor, but his head was in the shape of a boar! A new variable. The man pulled back and swung his arm out. His fist crashed into the ground, and a large wind Storm erupted inside of the hollow building, pushing Aluxio out.
Alaric had gotten in close with Jiro, exercising his combat ability. He swung his staff with a sharp jab towards his jaw. But with a crack of his fist, Jiro blocked and pushed the staff to the side, before following up with a punch. But Alaric was quick, twisting the staff in his grip to block it with the end of the staff. He pulled the staff and switched to his own hands, throwing a jab. Jiro weaved it and threw his body, ready for a shoulder attack. But, his body was pushed back by a barrier. Alaric twisted, and lifted the staff up and brought it down for a crushing blow. The black haired boy grabbed the tip and electricity danced at his fingers, traveling along the staff.
Sharp electricity entered Alaric’s body, but he didn’t let up. He pushed his foot into Jiro’s and used the staff to try and trip him up. He snapped the rear of his staff up, and it cracked against Jiro’s jaw, drawing blood. Jiro spit slightly before letting electricity cloud his fist, swinging it forward. Alaric tilted his head, letting the blow blast past him, catching strands of his hair. He let the front end of his staff whip and crack into his ribs.
[Immobilize]!
Jiro froze and Alaric twisted his body before leaping slightly off the ground before swinging his leg, landing a devastating kick to his side, sending him flying. He rolled along the ground, but his nails dug into the ground, lightning crackling and sparking. His hair began to defy gravity, flowing in the air as his eyes began to glow white.
Alaric narrowed his eyes as a voice came through his earpiece, "Alaric! I think I found the last member. It’s some guy with a boar for a head!" He shouted, seemingly fighting while talking.
Alaric’s eyes widened. The Minotaur... Most definitely their tank. If they were going to get to the ring bearer, they’d have to hit hard. Could Aluxio handle that on his own?
His eyes darted, "Arthur! We need you!" He called out into his earpiece, as he launched after Jiro. He couldn’t let up, not now not ever. This was proving to be more difficult than he initially thought...
