Chapter 22: Chapter 22- Catching Up

Soon enough, the magic class had ended and everyone was dismissed. Alaric had gone his separate ways with Clorissa and Odessa, who had plans of their own. The boy walked towards one of the many cafeterias on campus. He knew he wasn’t going to find Arthur this way, if anything he’d probably have to message him if he planned to meet with him. While he stood in line, he pulled his phone from his pocket and pushed in the number, shooting a quick text to his friend. In the message, he detailed the lunch plans and was hoping to have lunch together. It only took a few seconds for Arthur to respond, saying he’d love to! He then sent over his location and said to meet there immediately. Alaric piled his plate with food before hopping onto Skydancer and flying out of the door, the wind whipping past his ears. According to the text, Arthur was outside of the ground cafeteria, one of the main places you’d see from outside the academy. It was a short journey.

He flew downward, and sure enough, the young man was there, already digging into his meal. Sky slowly lowered to the ground as Alaric planted his feet down onto the floor, "...Yo!"

Arthur looked up and smiled, "You’re here!" He sat up and the two performed a handshake, "What’s up? I can’t believe we haven’t seen each other on the tour!"

Alaric rubbed his neck slightly, "Yeah, I was a little caught up in the whole thing I guess I just couldn’t wait."

Arthur smiled and gave a thumbs up, "Don’t worry about it. I know how excited you were to come here." Alaric walked up and sat down, sitting his tray on the table. The boy picked up his water and took a sip, "So, how has your classes been?"

Arthur smiled big and leaned forward, "They’ve been awesome so far!" He picked up a piece of bread from his plate, "Though the history parts of classes aren’t going to be enjoyable..."

"Perhpas, but it’s necessary." Alaric decided to dig into his own food, taking a bite of a sandwich.

"Is it? Why do I NEED to know some of the history? Like, I’m here to fight! I don’t need to know some of this stuff..." He said as he reached down and continued eating.

Alaric blinked. Is he serious? Sure, most history could be useless, but in terms of this stuff? It could seriously help you. He wondered what the harm in it could be... besides being completely boring.

Arthur blinked, "Oh, speaking of, do you have a mentor class?" He asked, grabbing a nearby napkin and dapping at his mouth. Alaric swallowed his bite and shook his head, "No. They haven’t assigned one to me just yet."

"Ah, yeah, people do go through that..." Arthur whispered before sitting the napkin aside and leaning forward, "Well, if you don’t have a class after lunch..." He pointed at his chest, "Why not come with me to mine? You can watch!"

Alaric lifted his head from his tray and raised an eyebrow, "Can I do that?"

"Hell yeah! Don’t worry I checked up on it earlier. It is completely fine as long as you aren’t skipping a class. And you’re just watching..." Alaric sighed softly and shrugged, "Uh, sure I don’t see why not. Though, why would you want me to come anyway?"

Arthur shrugged, "Do I need a reason?"

"I would like one..."

"W-Well, so you can see my progress! Or tell me if I’m doing something stupid during it!"

Alaric’s shoulders slumped, a beat of sweat rolling down his head, "...You want me to come with you... to tell you whether you’re doing something stupid?"

Arthur nodded eagerly, "Yeah! What’s wrong with that...?"

The white hair boy sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He looked off and waved his other hand, "Fine, I don’t see why not. Even if your reasons are a little stupid..."

"See? Just like that!"

So, the two quickly finished up their lunch and threw away their trash. Arthur pointed towards the large training facility, which is where mentorship classes take place for most people. They walked together.

Alaric was thinking to himself while they walked in silence. He wondered what kind of mentor he’d get. His skillset was unusual, especially for people who had clear themes and power within their systems. Him? His skills were all over the place. He wasn’t even sure what kind of mentor he’d give to someone like himself. But, the academy had a long list of people at their disposal, he’s sure they can figure it out with ease.

He also thought about Arthur’s mentor. His was much easier to determine compared to himself, but he wonders what kind of person they are. He couldn’t lie, he was excited to see how much Arthur has improved with his system and combat in general. He can only hope that he changed at least somewhat...

Only time will tell at this point.
