Beneath the Red Dragon
Chapter 904 Future Dragon Kings of the New Generation (Part 2)
“You think there is nothing wrong with this, very well.” Sesha lifted his head and swept his gaze over these companions who had grown up with him since childhood, and said coldly, “You have always fancied yourselves clever, so let me ask you a question!”
“I wonder who it is that’s being so clever for his own good, imagining himself awake to the truth, tch.” Green Dragon Salela chuckled softly. “Ask then, Sesha. Let me see what kind of so-called difficult question you have, with which you intend to prove that we are stupid.”
The other White Dragons and Black Dragons also turned to look at this Blue Dragon Sesha. Not a single Juvenile Dragon thought Sesha was any smarter than themselves. They had studied together, played together, and the education they received had all been the same, equal in every respect.
Blue Dragon Sesha sneered and said, “Suppose you were to rule a country alone, becoming the supreme ruler of a nation, its paramount King and Emperor,”
“but then you discover this: your blood kin and friends, your descendants and offspring, your most capable Beloved and those you especially favor, have all along been siphoning wealth from your country’s Treasure Vault, stealing benefits, diverting resources—what would you do?”
“If you discovered that the country you rule is in fact rich to the point that oil might flow, that the astonishing wealth, averaged over each citizen, could practically qualify your realm as the richest state in the Icaria World,”
“yet the wealth disparity in your country is the greatest in the Icaria World, with ninety-nine percent of the entire kingdom’s wealth flowing into the hands of your blood kin and friends, your trusted Beloved, and your favored ministers—what would you do?”
Blue Dragon Sesha sneered and said, “If you further discovered that your blood kin and friends, your capable Beloved and favored ministers, are colluding with foreign powers for the sake of their own interests and wealth, selling out the interests of your own country—what would you do?”
The other Black Dragons, White Dragons, and Green Dragons could not help but widen their vertical pupils, a sense of having been violated appearing on their faces, a faint Dragon Power spreading with a hint of killing intent.
They spoke in unison: “What’s so difficult about that? Of course we would wipe all of them out, have the Judicial Court seize them, publicly announce their crimes, and then punish them harshly in accordance with the law.”
Green Dragon Salela wrinkled his nose, green as crystal Jade, and said, “My blood kin and friends, and my trusted Beloved, would not harm my interests. Those who harm my interests are not my blood kin and friends, nor my trusted Beloved!”
“Very well said,” Blue Dragon Sesha replied with mockery. “But you are in the process of becoming those who ought to be killed. You are becoming the Dragons in the Imperial realm who deserve death!”
“How could that be?” The other Giant Dragon hatchlings were immediately a little startled. These Giant Dragon hatchlings were not stupid, but they had never once thought that the people Sesha spoke of were themselves.
“How could it not be?” Blue Dragon Sesha retorted coldly. “When those above delight in something, those below will plunge even deeper into it.”
“As the True Dragon Race, holding the highest and most revered status in the Golden Empire, whatever you do will certainly be seen by the Beloved, citizens, and ministers under your command,”
“and if even you yourselves are doing such foolish things, what right have you to demand of others what you yourselves cannot accomplish?”
“Besides, until now you had never seen such vast stores of treasure piled up right before your eyes, just within reach. At the very first sight of it, you could not restrain that laughable greed—then what of the future, when you are faced with even greater temptations and wealth?”
Blue Dragon Sesha’s words caused Achilles and Floating Cloud Dragon Derek to fall into silent thought despite themselves. The proud Red Dragon Cub Nero was as ever, only that his pair of dragon claws, now hardened and sharpened, were imitating those Great Dragons of the Gogomola Dragon Group, rubbing his angular chin as he pondered Sesha’s words.
“White Dragon Smo died on that night of the Dragon Madness Chaos, yet in truth he need not have died. That day, it was Smo who took the initiative to call me along to help the citizens of the Imperial realm, to spare them from further catastrophe.”
Blue Dragon Sesha’s tone gradually grew solemn; the timbre of his Dragon Race voice echoed within the tent, drawing many Warriors on the periphery, and a few Great Dragons, to listen.
“Smo was willing to face danger, to offer up his life for the sake of a better Imperial realm.”
“Even though his strength and mine were both very weak, are you truly willing, for the sake of your present greed and the Source Desire that will grow ever harder to control, to step by step undermine the foundations of the Imperial realm, until at last the Empire is corroded into a body riddled with a thousand wounds?”
For any kind of living being, the most crucial period that shapes its entire life is, beyond a doubt, its childhood. Unless it experiences some unimaginable transformation, a being’s character is for the most part determined by its childhood.
Just like a piece of fruit that has been bitten into, which is gradually oxidized and corroded by the bacteria and all else in the air; whatever a living being encounters in its childhood is the civilizational contamination of the environment that surrounds it.
And Blue Dragon Sesha was clearly the Giant Dragon among the new generation most deeply influenced by the civilization of the Golden Empire—or rather, this Blue Dragon’s thought was the one most aligned with the Imperial realm.
The other Black Dragons and White Dragons were somewhat taken aback by Blue Dragon Sesha’s words. Their fangs clinked as they muttered in low voices, “It shouldn’t be so serious, right? We only wanted to take a few insignificant Gemstones and crystals to adorn our lairs, that’s all.”
Only the shrewd and outstanding Green Dragon Salela retorted coldly, “Sesha, do not casually inflate the issue. From your tone, are you so certain that in the future you will possess the power to rule the Golden Empire? How ridiculous.”
“The laurel wreath of Emperor Gogomola can never be placed upon the skull of any Giant Dragon from another caste. In the future, the blood kin and offspring of Gogomola shall surely be the most noble Dragon Prince of the Golden Empire; no Dragon whatsoever may be compared to him.”
