Chapter 144 -140: Truly Invincible?

It is a well-known fact that noble Mages, and other Professionals who rely heavily on Casting, have always faced two difficult challenges.

The first is how to recover Magic Power more quickly.

The second is how to possess a larger Magic Power Reserve.

Of course, since both are closely tied to the Intelligence Attribute, raising one’s Attributes is undoubtedly the most direct solution.

But since that is exceptionally difficult to do, people inevitably began searching for other methods.

After years of tireless research and experimentation by countless individuals, a solution for the former has been found.

For example, the Universal Skill, Meditation, can increase Magic Power recovery speed by 10%.

Skills like the Mage’s Resonance, the Warlock’s Reflux, the Druid’s Natural Breathing, and the Holy Knight’s Oath Echo also have similar effects.

While the increase isn’t particularly large, it represents a breakthrough, at the very least.

However, the problem of Magic Power Reserve has yet to find a good solution.

The current solution everyone uses is still an “external storage” method.

The principle behind items like Magic Stones and Magic Potions is to store Magic Power in a special medium, which can then be accessed through Absorption when needed.

It’s roughly equivalent to a Phone’s battery having limited capacity, forcing you to carry a power bank at all times.

This method does solve part of the problem, but it also has many drawbacks.

First, such items are incredibly expensive. Even the wealthiest Professionals wouldn’t dare use mana potions as casually as health potions.

Second, the higher a Professional’s Level and Power, the more limited the effectiveness of these items becomes.

An Apprentice Mage might be able to handle most emergencies just by carrying a single, cheap Low Level Magic Potion.

But for a Level 10 Great Mage, the Magic Power from chugging three of the most expensive High Level Magic Potions might not even be enough to cast a single Ring Five Magic.

This disparity isn’t hard to understand.

After all, the effectiveness of Magic Potions from Low Level to High Level increases additively.

However, from Apprentice Mage to Great Mage, both Magic Power Reserve and the cost of Casting increase exponentially.

The difference between the two is like pouring a cup of water into a basin versus pouring a basin of water into a lake.

The former has an immediate, visible effect, while the latter is barely better than nothing.

But Magic Pool is different.

“Its storage limit is always three times the wielder’s current maximum Magic Power.”

One “always,” one “current.”

Those two words alone were enough to prove its value as a Divine Gifted Skill.

This meant that regardless of whether Lu Wei’s Intelligence was 10, 20, 50, 100, or even 300 or 500, he would have a “reserve” of Magic Power equal to three times his normal maximum!

In other words, his Mana Bar had effectively quadrupled!

He could cast four times as many spells!

The Top-Tier Force Field he could barely maintain for two minutes would now last for eight!

Stealth, which consumed one point of Magic Power every ten minutes, could be maintained for nearly an entire day!

He could fire Light-guided Arrow, which cost one point of Magic Power per cast, 120 times in a row!

He’d basically become a Magic Machine Gun!

“Holy shit…”

A gentle breeze swept through the forest, rustling the uneven canopy.

The dense leaves swayed, creating a rustling sound that washed over the woods like a tide, starting in the distance and drawing near.

Staring at the small glass bottle in his hand, Lu Wei’s eyes widened, and he swallowed hard.

‘No, seriously… this is just insane…’

…

…

“Is the lady in her room?”

Heitai Town, at the Silver Moon Corridor Inn.

At the end of a long corridor, a burly man stopped and addressed the woman standing as still as a statue outside a door.

Both wore Professional Badges on their chests.

The man’s was made of iron, depicting two Longswords crossed over a Kite Shield. The craftsmanship looked crude, but this gave it a heavy, unyielding feel.

Courage and Power: a Warrior.

The woman’s badge, in contrast, featured a sun-shaped halo as a base, with a relief of two tightly clasped Hands of Contract.

Loyalty and Oaths: a Holy Knight.

“She is.”

Her silver armor glinted with a cold, moon-like sheen. The Female Holy Knight barely lifted her eyelashes, her expression cold as she glanced at the man.

“Hmph.”

Seeing her attitude, the man, Gante, snorted in muffled dissatisfaction and raised a hand to knock on the carved wooden door.

He raised his voice slightly, his tone unconsciously taking on a hint of reverence.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—

“Milady, I’ve returned.”

“…Come in.”

A moment later, a voice even colder than the Female Holy Knight’s came from inside.

Gante quickly but carefully pushed the door open, entering the room as quietly as he could.

The room was spacious and bright. Afternoon sun streamed through diamond-paned windows, casting mottled patterns of light and shadow across the carpet.

Before the window stood a desk and a high-backed chair carved with intricate vine patterns. An embroidered cushion, brought all the way from Kalin Port, rested on the seat.

“Milady…”

Gante looked at the slender, straight-backed silhouette of the young woman at the desk and spoke softly.

“I’ve been to the Adventurer Association to check.”

“There are still five days until the quest’s deadline.”

“As soon as Young Master Furen returns, they’ll send someone to inform us immediately.”

“…Five days?”

Freya turned her head, her delicate brows furrowing in displeasure. “So we are to remain here for five more days?”

“Ahem, it would seem so…”

Gante scratched his head, saying awkwardly, “In the meantime, perhaps you could take a walk outside? Experience the local color of the countryside.”

“And how would that help me?” Freya’s voice betrayed no emotion.

“Er… perhaps it might help with your writing?”

Gante mumbled, “I’ve heard that many authors do that… go out to gather material, find inspiration, that sort of thing.”

“Are you joking?”

Freya watched him calmly. “Or are you perhaps instructing me on how to write?”

“Ah, no, of course not!”

Realizing his blunder, Gante shook his head frantically. “What do I know about writing? It was just a presumptuous suggestion, nothing more.”

“If you know it’s presumptuous, then don’t say it.”

Freya glanced at him, then looked away, returning her attention to whatever she was writing.

Having received no order to leave, Gante didn’t dare move and could only stand there awkwardly.

The room fell deathly silent, the only sound being the scratching of a quill pen on paper.

The pendulum of the grandfather clock in the corner swung slowly. After an indeterminate amount of time, Freya’s cool voice finally broke the silence again.

“However, perhaps we should deal with a certain nuisance before he returns.”

She spoke without looking up from her writing.

“Bring me the bartender, Clara. I wish to have a chat with her.”

“Let’s hope she isn’t as presumptuous as you are.”
