Chapter 132: Chapter 128: The Terrifying Mushroom Squad
Compared to the Elven and Dwarven languages, the Beastman Language was not a particularly difficult "foreign language" to learn.
It had a small vocabulary, simple grammar, and no complex pronunciations.
It was also full of curses, making it perfect for insulting people.
That was why many people knew at least a little of it.
Lu Wei was no exception.
Phrases like "son of a bitch," "suckling whelp," and "spineless worm" rolled right off his tongue.
However, he had never heard Urzha’s "GHRROOOO" before.
"What does ’Ghrroooo’ mean?"
Lu Wei asked with a puzzled expression, looking at Marcus, who was tightly gripping his Longsword.
"Uh..."
Marcus turned his head, a look of surprise in his eyes.
’The enemy is about to attack, and he has the nerve to ask about something like this?’
’Does he not take the War Lizardmen seriously at all?’
After a moment of stunned silence, he replied, somewhat bewildered,
"A dickless coward... I mean, the phrase in the Beastman Language means ’dickless coward.’" ℯ
"Oh."
’So, a eunuch, then.’
’Great. I learned a new foreign phrase today.’
Lu Wei nodded and looked back into the depths of the tunnel.
The viper-like hissing had grown louder, filled with menace.
It meant at least one War Lizardman was just ahead.
"Fire!"
In cavern battles, light is a critical factor. The experienced Marcus bellowed the command, and Urzha immediately kicked the torch at her feet, sending it flying.
WHOOSH!
The torch sailed through the air, flaring brightly and extending the group’s vision.
But before the torch could even land, two Long Spears suddenly shot out from the darkness without warning, one after the other. They tore through the air with a piercing whistle, aimed straight for Urzha!
"Filth! All you know is ambushes!"
Urzha reacted instantly, raising her Battle Axe in front of her like a Shield.
Two muffled clangs rang out in quick succession. The spear tips scraped across the face of the axe, sending a shower of blinding sparks. The immense force made her massive body teeter backward, and she slid half a step back in the mud.
’Incredible Power!’
’As expected of a Middle Level Monster!’
Lu Wei’s brow furrowed slightly. Adhering to the principle of "watch and learn," he made no move, simply observing the battle from the back.
Marcus, however, immediately deduced there were two War Lizardmen. Without a second thought, he raised his Sword and charged forward to help Urzha relieve some of the pressure.
This, no doubt, was the mark of a veteran Adventurer’s vast combat Experience.
And he was proven right.
The next moment, accompanied by heavy, sticky, rapid footsteps, two War Lizardmen charged out from the depths of the tunnel.
Their dark green scales, so dark they were almost black, glinted with a cold, metallic sheen under the flickering, blurry firelight.
Their Strong bodies were covered in a network of old scars, mostly claw marks—likely from fights with their own kind.
Unlike the Long Spears they had thrown in the ambush, the Weapons they now wielded were Short Spears, which were more agile and better suited for combat in confined spaces.
’They even know how to choose appropriate Weapons for the situation.’
Lu Wei was a little surprised to see this.
But an even bigger surprise was yet to come.
HSSS—!
In a flash, the two War Lizardmen had closed the distance to about ten meters.
Just then, they suddenly dropped to all fours. Their speed surged, and with an unexpected burst of power, they covered the final distance in an instant.
Instead of attacking Urzha and Marcus separately, they both charged toward Marcus, who was visibly smaller. They were planning to focus their fire and take one of them out first!
"Vile crawlers! Don’t even think about it!"
Urzha was quick to react. Knowing Marcus couldn’t handle both alone, she let out a furious roar and swept her massive Double-Bladed Battleaxe sideways, aiming to slice one of the creatures in half at the waist.
However, the War Lizardman’s reaction was just as fast.
Just an instant before the Battle Axe landed, the creature abruptly halted its charge. Kicking off with its hind legs, it used the slick floor to slide half a step back and to the side while simultaneously swatting at the flat of the axe with its claws.
CLANG!
The clash of claw against axe blade produced a piercing shriek. Urzha’s powerful blow slid off the creature’s greasy scales and slammed into the ground.
Without missing a beat, the War Lizardman lunged, snapping its jaws at the arm she used to hold her axe...
...
BANG! BANG BANG BANG!
"Crawlers! Die!"
"WAAAGH!"
"Watch out!"
The clash of Weapons, Urzha’s roars, and Marcus’s bellows echoed through the tunnel. In the blink of an eye, the battle had reached a fever pitch.
Debris and mud rained down, and stagnant water splashed as light and shadow danced wildly across the cavern walls, illuminating the fierce life-or-death struggle.
This made Lu Wei and the other two, standing at the back, look completely out of place.
"Brother Lu Wei, you have to do something!!"
Without a doubt, Furen was the most anxious one.
He was eager to help, but unfortunately, the tunnel was only wide enough for two people abreast, so he couldn’t find an opening despite trying several times.
Still, even if he couldn’t help, his attitude was at least proactive.
At least compared to Mirana’s "indifference," he clearly cared more for the safety of their two "temporary allies," Urzha and Marcus.
"Alright."
Lu Wei stood with his arms crossed. At some point, he had returned Confession to the Sword Scabbard at his waist, and he looked completely relaxed.
’After all, from the looks of it, this tunnel doesn’t lead to the main nest.’
’And since it’s just a couple of grunts, there’s no need to be too tense.’
’But it’s about time this ended.’
Having familiarized himself with the War Lizardmen’s fighting style through his observation, Lu Wei stopped dawdling and placed his hand on the hilt of Confession.
He then said calmly,
"Furen, you take the one on the left. Mirana, you take the one on the right."
"You have three seconds."
With those two simple commands, Lu Wei seemed like a high judge, capable of deciding the life and death of the two War Lizardmen with a single word.
However, Furen and Mirana weren’t the least bit surprised.
After all, in a Low Level Adventurer’s Land like Gelan Forest, a [Force Field] possessing "Rule Power" was simply overwhelming.
"No problem!"
Furen was thrilled to finally be able to take action.
Mirana merely gave a slight nod, raising the tip of her lowered Sword just a fraction.
Then, they both heard Lu Wei shout to the front line,
"Brother Marcus, Urzha, fall back!"
...
Trust is the cornerstone of any Adventurer Squad.
Even with temporary teammates, an alliance is meaningless if you can’t trust each other in a fight.
So, upon hearing his shout, Marcus and Urzha retreated without hesitation. They kept close to the cavern wall to leave room for Furen and Mirana to take their places.
They expected the two to approach slowly from behind, first defending and then attacking, gradually filling the gap to complete the rotation of the front line.
After all, that was the standard procedure.
But to their surprise, the next second, two figures shot past them like arrows loosed from a bow, charging straight toward the two War Lizardmen with no defensive posture whatsoever.
"You two!"
Marcus’s pupils contracted, his expression instantly turning to one of utter disbelief.
But his disbelief quickly morphed into unparalleled shock.
Because in the exact moment the four of them passed each other, the two War Lizardmen had, without any warning, frozen in place!
The next moment, Furen and Mirana arrived right in front of them.
One leaped high into the air, while the other swung their Sword in a horizontal arc.
SQUELCH! SQUELCH!
The sickening sounds of blades tearing through flesh and bone were nearly simultaneous. Hot blood splattered against the dim cavern walls, dyeing clumps of slime mold crimson.
It all happened so fast that the two War Lizardmen were Divided in Two before they even knew what was happening.
Then, before the stunned eyes of Marcus and Urzha, their bodies fell to the ground in four mangled pieces.
The entire process took exactly three seconds.
