Chapter 33 - Breeding Heat
Chapter 33: 33 - Breeding Heat
"It’s different from normal heat. The urge to reproduce." Kurus struggled to find the right words to describe it as he paused a few times, "Seducing won’t calm twins down. They need a female’s body...to feel the satisfaction of a successful breeding. Breeding mate will kill her. Cooling gas is the only solution."
"Then what is the point of having a mate if not to breed?"
Kurus looked at Vick like he was an idiot.
"Mate is different from a female for breeding. I would never breed my mate. Mate also agreed to me getting a female for breeding. She even suggested it. Said she would help me get one."
Dickhead was starting to get it, and he was not happy about it. He would rather it be revenge on him, or something to do with him, than for me to genuinely like Noodle’s company.
For someone who stood me up on the day of our wedding, opened our relationship so he could sleep around, called me a short-term fling, and then discarded me like a used condom, he had some nerve to keep his fiancé position after all the dick moves he pulled. That’s just a small sample of why he was a certified dickhead.
Dickhead stood up to stretch his limbs, not showing any sign of jealousy or anger on the outside. Just the usual calm, calculated expression that he always wore. I just read him like I read between the lines. I could be wrong.
"Come, let’s have a little spar to pass the time. I feel a bit stiff after all that walking," he invited Noodle to join him.
"Cooling gas," Noodle rejected him. His priority chart was easy to read. He was worried about not finding it in time, more than anything.
But what dickhead wanted, dickhead got. A boot flew toward Noodle, so fast he had no time to dodge. It hit him in the shoulder, sending him crashing into the tree.
The grin on Dickhead’s face was all kinds of sinister, as he lowered his foot from its high-kick position and slowly walked toward Kurus. "Precious has a soft spot for the vulnerable ones. How about we bring that side of her out, huh? You want her to talk to you, don’t you? I know how to make her do it."
Noodle hissed as he got up, his eyes narrowing at the challenge. He didn’t like the idea of being the weaker one in front of me, but he also wanted to get me talking again. The internal conflict was written all over his face. Cooling gas had been pushed aside for the moment.
"Why don’t you let me seduce her?" Kurus got into a fighting stance, not confronting a stronger opponent, but not backing down either. "It’s more efficient than your way. She likes it when I do it."
Kurus made me feel stupid sometimes with his one-track mind, and I bet Dickhead felt the same. It was that simple for Noodle. He didn’t see the need for games and tricks. The simplest and most direct way to get the desired result was his preferred method.
Three people. Three different routes. Neither of us cared about the other’s goals. Or rather, none of us could be bothered to align our desires. I wanted to kill. Noodle wanted to survive. Vick wanted to control. Three different worlds colliding in one place, bound by a strange bond, but not united.
I waited for Noodle’s head to roll on the ground as the fight began. But of course, that didn’t happen. Dickead kicked Noodle’s ass as if he were a rag doll. But that was it. The ground shook with each hit. Trees fell, rocks cracked, but not a single killing blow was dealt. It was a punishment. A reminder of who was the stronger one here.
Noodle’s chest heaved. Dickhead stood over him, grinding the serpent’s face into the dirt and fallen leaves. The arrogant posture was momentarily interrupted by a slight slump of his shoulders.
It was then, a soft whoosh. Dickhead’s head snapped up, his eyes widening at the sudden trap. He grabbed Noodle’s limp body and leaped back just as the object fell from above, cracking the ground where they had been. The poisonous fog that erupted from it made Vick cover his nose.
"Scorpion gas," Kurus said as more bombs exploded around them, filling the air with a thick, purple haze. "They use it to paralyze their prey...painfully..."
Dickhead didn’t respond and leaped toward me, who was still lying on the ground, but someone else got to me first.
A giant eagle flapped its wings and tried to lift me up into the air, but the weights kept me grounded, my body too heavy for it to carry.
He didn’t give up easily. His talons raked through the dirt, trying to find a better grip on me. His wings beat furiously, sending dust and leaves flying everywhere.
I blinked the debris away, "..."
The failed attempt ended with him dropping me and flying off into the night before Vick could catch up. He hurled a rock at the retreating eagle. His aim would have been deadly if I hadn’t hurled a rock at his head first.
What an embarrassment. My eyes followed the eagle as he disappeared into the sky, looking like a dark spot of shame against the moonlight.
I laughed at him, "Pffffh. Hahahaha. Can’t even lift a female. Kings of the skies? More like losers of the skies. Hahaha! Ahahaha! You are a disgrace to all birdkind! Pfffh!"
The eagle flapped his wings even faster, trying to escape the sound of my laughter. It echoed through the night, chasing him as he fled.
My laughter died down as the purple gas began to engulf me, as if mocking me for laughing at someone else’s attempt to save me.I would have been immune to it if not for my current condition. But now, I was just as useless as he was.
The paralyzing pain crept into my limbs, like the burn of a thousand needles under my skin.
Dickhead lifted my body in one arm and Kurus’ in the other, collected our stuff into his space with a touch of his feet, and ran away from the gas.
Even at a safe distance, He kept looking up at the sky, as if he could feel the eagle’s presence lingering there. "He is still following us."
