Eclipsa had her arms folded neatly under her massive breasts, and let one slit-purple eye crack open. She turned her head just enough to shoot a playful glare at Tali, her voice dripping with that honeyed, teasing lilt she’d perfected for him.

Tali’s shoulders trembled. The words hit like a quiet hammer. Her lower lip wobbled, and fresh tears spilled over, soaking into Ayani’s skirt. She clutched the fabric harder, pressing her forehead against her aunt’s waist as if trying to hide inside the safety of her embrace.

"Maama... Pappa..." she sniffled, voice cracking into a tiny, heartbroken sob. "They... they’re gone..."

Ayani’s arms tightened around her niece instinctively. Her own eyes glistened, but she kept her voice soft, soothing, like she’d practiced this a thousand times. "Tali baby... it’s okay. It’s okay."

Beside him, Eclipsa beamed, as she shouted excitedly in her head. *D-Dark Lord looks so hot comforting his daughter... Ahh~ My heart will melt.*

Aiden and Tali then looked back toward Ayani, as Aiden signaled her to continue explaining.

Ayani smiled, as tears wealed up in her eyes to see Tali like this. She rubbed her eyes and nodded toward Aiden.

"After they were done, they said they would ’protect’ us if we gave them twelve people as payment every week. Or... if we don’t agree they would just kill us all."

Aiden felt Tali hugging him even tighter, stuffing her face against his chest.

Ayani continued, fresh tears streaming down her face. "Livestock, Tali and I and all of us have been living like that for a whole year"

Ayani wiped her cheeks frantically.

Tali’s sobs grew louder. She buried her face back into Aiden’s chest, her small fists clutching his shirt. "I don’t want to be afraid anymore... Daddy... please..."

I’ll be right there every step of the way. We’ll laugh together. We’ll eat together. We’ll grow stronger together. And when the time comes... I’ll protect you with everything I have. No one will ever hurt you again. Not while I’m breathing."

Tali stared at him, her little heart racing. Something in his words clicked—like a key turning in a rusty lock. The fear in her eyes didn’t vanish, but it softened. She nodded slowly, her voice a tiny, hopeful whisper. "You... you promise, Daddy?"
