Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master
Chapter 386 - 356: Sunbird and Bai Yuan
Chapter 386: Chapter 356: Sunbird and Bai Yuan
Li Qian was surprised to realize that the electronic prompt had only sounded when he’d focused on the two wooden carvings.
"Excuse me, Boss. What can you tell me about these two carvings?" Li Qian didn’t hesitate, picking them up with a smile as he asked.
"Young man, young lady, have you ever heard the story of the Seven Monarchs of the Profound Abyss?" the stall owner, a scruffy, middle-aged man, asked with a chuckle that revealed a set of yellow teeth.
Li Qian crouched down, stroking the two wooden carvings. He asked with genuine interest, "Boss, we’re new students who just arrived in Mo Yuan City. We really don’t know much about its history. Could you tell us about it?"
Seeing how politely and respectfully Li Qian asked, the stall owner’s vanity was immensely satisfied. He began to show off his knowledge. "This Mo Yuan City we’re in now was the very first Dimensional Fortress established in all of Xiping Province."
"It’s been over two thousand years since the city was founded. Back then, our ancestors paid a terrible price to establish this place."
"To this day, you can still find carvings on the city walls of Mo Yuan City, recording the deeds of those brave and fearless Beast Masters and their Pet Beasts."
"The Seven Monarchs were the most outstanding among these heroic Beast Masters. They were the apex combat power of their time—seven Emperor Level Beast Masters."
"The carvings you’re holding depict Xiahou Monarch’s ace Pet Beasts: the Sunbird and the Bai Yuan!"
Li Qian was listening with rapt attention. He looked at the stall owner, his gaze full of inquiry. "Sunbird and Bai Yuan?"
The stall owner chuckled, his face crinkling into a wide, wrinkled smile.
’It’s a good thing he wants to hear the story. If he wasn’t interested, how could I possibly rip him off?’
With this in mind, the stall owner launched into his explanation with renewed vigor. "Let me tell you, this Sunbird and this Bai Yuan are nothing simple..."
Over the next few minutes, Li Qian listened to the stall owner’s complete story. According to the vendor, both the Sunbird and the Bai Yuan were Pet Beasts with Emperor Level Potential, and even among Emperor Level creatures, they were considered exceptional.
The Sunbird was a Powerful, Dual Attribute Pet Beast of Fire and Light. It was said to possess the passive Skill, Nirvana Rebirth, which allowed it to fully restore its fighting strength when on the verge of death.
It was precisely because of this passive Skill that the Sunbird was also known as the Phoenix.
Currently, there were no more than one hundred known Sunbirds on the entire Ancestral Star, and Li Qian had never heard of any organization or institution that had figured out a stable evolutionary path for them.
That was to be expected, though. Combining the stall owner’s story with the prompt in his mind, Li Qian had already come to a conclusion.
This Sunbird was, in fact, an Evolutionary Form of the Red Feather Chicken.
Who would have thought that the Fire Chicken, known throughout the Beast Taming World as a Wasted Pet, could have such a Powerful evolutionary form?
It was truly incredible—a classic case of something hidden in plain sight.
Besides the Sunbird, the Bai Yuan was also an incredibly rare and fearsome Pet Beast with astonishing Potential.
Its Dual Attributes of the Spiritual and Demon Spirit Elements, combined with the fact that it was a Flying Pet Beast, made it a Nightmare for most other Pet Beasts.
It had few natural predators and was the bane of Dragon-type Pet Beasts. Li Qian only knew of this creature because he had once read about it in an extremely obscure Beast Master’s journal.
Listening to the stall owner’s endless spiel, Li Qian simply maintained his smile, showing no particular reaction.
His reaction left the stall owner uncertain. The man asked tentatively, "Handsome Guy, these two carvings are the pride of my stall. They’re made from high-grade boxwood..."
"How about this: if you really like them, I’ll grit my teeth and part with my treasures. I’ll wrap them both up for you for just ten thousand Federation Coins."
"PFFT!" The moment the stall owner’s voice fell, Lu Tianjiao, who was drinking water nearby, couldn’t help but spray it everywhere.
His eyes went wide, and he stared at the stall owner in disbelief. "Boss, take a look. Are the words ’easy mark’ written on our faces?"
"These carvings? With craftsmanship like this? I could carve something better in my spare time! I wouldn’t even take them if you gave them to me for free!"
Hearing Lu Tianjiao’s mockery, the stall owner shot to his feet. "Young man, if you don’t know quality when you see it, then keep your mouth shut! The artist who carved these is a master renowned far and wide..."
As Li Qian listened to the two argue until they were red in the face, the corner of his mouth twitched imperceptibly. ’These two... it’s the pot calling the kettle black.’
The craftsmanship wasn’t so poor that just anyone could do it, as Lu Tianjiao claimed, but it was a far cry from the work of a master, as the vendor boasted.
He cut right to the chase and made an offer. "Alright, Boss, let’s cut the nonsense. I like the look of these two carvings. Two hundred, and I’ll take them off your hands."
"Handsome Guy, that’s not how you haggle! You’ve slashed the price down to the bone!" the owner exclaimed, looking like he wanted to cry but had no tears to shed.
"Besides, judging by how you’re dressed, you’re not hurting for ten or twenty thousand."
Li Qian chuckled. "You’re right, I’m not hurting for ten or twenty thousand. But if I actually paid ten thousand for these two carvings, I’m pretty sure by tomorrow the rumor would be that a giant fool visited the night market."
Hearing this, Sun Ruirui and Mo Ziyu, who were standing nearby, couldn’t help but chuckle.
In the end, after some haggling, Li Qian bought the two wooden carvings for five hundred Federation Coins.
The price itself didn’t matter. Li Qian hadn’t really been concerned with it. He bought the carvings mainly because they had given him a huge burst of inspiration; he was essentially paying for the idea.
After buying the carvings, the group browsed for a while longer before heading back to the hotels assigned to their schools.
As they were about to part ways, Li Qian suddenly said, "Ruirui, Mo Ziyu, these two carvings are for you."
Li Qian hadn’t thought much of it; it was just a casual gesture. But when Sun Ruirui accepted the carving, a blush instantly spread across her cheeks.
After they had parted ways with him, Mo Ziyu said meaningfully, "Alright, fess up..."
Sun Ruirui tried hard to suppress her joy, putting on a serious expression and playing dumb. "Fess up about what?"
"He just gave you a gift. What do you think you should fess up about?" A smile touched Mo Ziyu’s coolly beautiful face.
Sun Ruirui immediately shook her head. "He gave you one, too."
"It’s not the same. He gave you the Sunbird. The Sunbird is also called the Phoenix. Isn’t it obvious? It represents undying love!" Mo Ziyu said, letting her imagination run wild.
Sun Ruirui became flustered. "You and your wild imagination!"
