Beast Taming: I'm Really Just a Forest Ranger
Chapter 687 - 302: The Snow Giant’s Stunning Entrance! (Part 2)
Two Beastmasters can handle ordinary Pet Beasts’ harassment, but there’s no way they can fend off a group of Split-tooth Steel Mane, driven into a frenzy by hunger.
As soon as this group uses [Rushing Forward], Anchang Village will be leveled.
Yet Old Mu did not show any worry due to the massive disparity in strength. A smile appeared on his parched face, as he pointed outside and spoke slowly: "Cars can’t get into the village, but what about Pet Beasts?"
The village chief was taken aback: "What do you mean?"
A knowing smile appeared on Old Mu’s face: "We are now under the jurisdiction of Xuanhe Town. Have you forgotten who lives in Xuanhe Town?"
The village chief’s pupils contracted, and a glimmer of hope appeared in his eyes.
"Chen Yuan!"
A tender child’s voice sounded, and Zhao peeked out his small head from behind his father, no longer filled with tears as before.
"That’s right."
Old Mu instinctively picked up his cigarette holder intending to take a deep drag, but suddenly noticed Zhao staring at him attentively. With an awkward smile, he hid the cigarette holder behind him:
"It’s just a few dozen kilometers to Xuanhe Town, for Advisor Chen, coming over would only cost the time of a meal."
Upon hearing these words, the crowd simultaneously revealed relieved smiles: "Yes, with Advisor Chen here."
"Oh right, we’re considered people of Xuanhe Town now too!"
But as the crowd smiled, Old Mu’s face turned serious, and he spoke solemnly: "I’ll report the situation here to Advisor Chen right now, and you should keep your doors and windows tightly shut, don’t go outside."
"No matter what noises you hear, do not open the door."
The village chief nodded heavily, and broadcasted the notice to every household through the village broadcast, while Old Mu called Zhou Xu, who relayed it to Chen Yuan.
"Advisor Chen, the situation in Anchang Village is rather severe..."
A moment later, a steady voice reached his ears: "Alright, I’ll be there immediately."
Hanging up the phone, the burden pressing on Old Mu’s heart finally eased, his forehead wrinkles relaxed as he hummed a tune nobody could understand.
Suddenly, an urgent voice disrupted the village’s tranquility: "Mr. Mu, those Split-tooth Steel Mane are about to charge in!!!"
In the evening, snow intermingled with wind, and the twilight painted the mountains and forests.
A group of hungry Split-tooth Steel Mane gathered at the village entrance like a rusty tide of steel, crashing through the snow.
Split-tooth Steel Mane resemble giant wild boars, standing nearly two meters tall at the shoulders.
Their bodies clad in heavy, rust-laden iron-black armor, with massive curved steel tusks extending from the upper jaw, glinting fiercely, and their backs bristling with sharp steel-like spines.
Greedy and fierce light flickered in their eyes, and their vicious faces stared ahead as their heavy hooves shook the snowy ground.
Upon close inspection, there are eleven Split-tooth Steel Mane here, a small Pet Beast tribe.
Among them, the leader is about three meters tall, its massive form exuding a strong sense of oppression even from afar, with its enormous pitch-black eyes gazing forward.
The scent of food led them here.
Old Mu and another Beastmaster hid behind a dirt wall, observing the restless Split-tooth Steel Mane. His face no longer displayed calm composure, deep furrows appeared between his brows: "Trouble."
This group of Split-tooth Steel Mane is obviously starved to madness.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t discard their apprehension towards humans so fast, discard their concerns over Beastmasters, and intrude so brazenly into the village.
Starved crazy Split-tooth Steel Mane can do anything.
"Mr. Mu... What do we do now?"
"Do we... try to stop them?" The other Beastmaster, barely thirty, looked at the Split-tooth Steel Mane with eyes full of anxiety, and his voice trembled.
Old Mu glanced at him indifferently: "Are you crazy?"
"Can we stop these starved crazies just on our own?"
"Oh, if you want to become their food, it’s not impossible."
This Beastmaster’s mouth twitched first, then he secretly sighed in relief: "Then what do we do?"
Old Mu spread his hands: "What else can we do, give them food, and hope they leave once they’re full."
"Oh, best if they don’t leave, Advisor Chen will be here soon."
"Advisor Chen," these three words seemed to carry boundless magic, the Beastmaster felt less scared, only muttered under his breath: "Truly wasting all this grain."
Luckily, it’s not like before when food was scarce, otherwise, villagers would fight tooth and nail for the hard-earned grain.
But now, trading grain for safety is worth it.
Having made up their minds, preparing to have villagers bring out food, they suddenly heard a somewhat muffled rumbling of footsteps.
A massive figure, appearing from nowhere, like a moving fortress, stopped the beast group right at the village boundary.
Both of them were at an angle where they could clearly see this colossal figure, five meters tall, as majestic as a mountain.
Covered entirely in heavy and crystal-clear blue-white ice armor, underneath the ice armor is a sturdy and rugged skin like rock with a bluish-gray hue, and enormous warm amber-like eyes emitting gentle light amidst the snowstorm.
Its back rises like a mountain ridge, fists resembling icy rocky giant hammers.
This is the owner of the giant footprints, the giant snowman mentioned by Zhao.
At first glance, it does look like a giant snowman, but upon closer inspection, this creature is mighty and imposing, a snow giant armored in heavy ice.
"Mr. Mu... did you see it?"
Intimidated by the Snow Giant’s aura, the young Beastmaster widened his eyes, stammering.
"I’m not blind, I can see." Old Mu replied casually, but frowned, "What Pet Beast is this? Why did it suddenly appear?"
