Chapter 56: Working Together to Build the Cabin
Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Working Together to Build the Cabin
At precisely one o’clock in the afternoon, Chen Yuan returned to the farm.
He called all the big and small Pet Beasts on the farm to his side, of course, the Bean Chicken still stayed in the coop hatching eggs.
The expressions of the little ones were varied; the Flame Cloud Falcon was silent; Cola was full of excitement, occasionally pouncing towards Chen Yuan; Duck was yawning, looking as if it hadn’t woken up; Iron Head’s demeanor was solemn, exuding the word ’dependable’ from head to toe.
As for the Electric Flying Cat, it hid in a corner on the side, slightly curled up, feeling out of place.
Chen Yuan was quite troubled by the Electric Flying Cat’s personality; even though it was very smart during its fruit-stealing escapades, almost cunning, it became especially sensitive and introverted when it came to the farm, unable to integrate into the farm’s atmosphere.
“Maybe it’s because of the kid’s experiences,” Chen Yuan sighed secretly.
The Electric Flying Cat said it had wandered all the way here, bullied by other Pet Beasts along the way, and had to resort to some tricks to survive.
But perhaps sensitivity and introversion are the true colors after shedding all disguises.
To Chen Yuan, the Electric Flying Cat capable of sensing the aura of Spirit Plants was very important.
As long as he took the Electric Flying Cat into the mountains, he might be able to consistently find Spirit Plants.
Therefore, to quickly improve the Electric Flying Cat’s Favorability, to prevent Cola’s sleep from being disturbed, and to blend the Electric Flying Cat into the farm’s atmosphere soon, Chen Yuan decided on an ice-breaking activity – Build a treehouse together!
“Kid, are you really not letting me help out?” Chen Weiyi puffed on his dry cigarette, smoke curling up as he looked at the little makeshift team Chen Yuan had assembled with worry.
Not to mention Chen Yuan’s little experience in carpentry, just these five little ones were enough to make Chen Weiyi less optimistic.
“Don’t worry, Grandpa, we can do it,” Chen Yuan patted his chest, full of confidence.
He had already researched a variety of materials and videos on how to build a treehouse and was very confident.
Of course, these videos referred to survival and construction videos he watched every night before bed.
Who could refuse to watch an episode of cozy and relaxing wilderness construction at night?
Chen Yuan first selected a particularly robust Camphor Tree as the treehouse’s foundation – this Camphor Tree was about twenty meters tall, and at the trunk’s six to seven meters mark, it branched out in four directions, forming four sturdy limbs. The higher canopy was lush, like a giant cover shielding from sunlight.
The center where these four limbs intersected was a perfect place to build a platform.
“We need lots and lots of wood now,” Chen Yuan looked at the four little ones, extending an arm, “Let’s go, go cut some wood together.”
Leading the five little ones with various expressions, Chen Yuan searched the farm for suitable wood.
The wood required for building the treehouse didn’t need to be too sturdy, moderate length would suffice, as it was only for the Electric Flying Cat’s residence.
Hence, Chen Yuan opted not to choose trees that were twenty meters tall or so, but rather small trees several meters in height.
After the Spiritual Energy Revival began, all kinds of plants grew exuberantly, and Chen Yuan soon found many suitable targets.
“It’s your turn now,” Chen Yuan glanced over at Iron Head.
The Steel-headed Ground Rat tilted its head, full of confusion.
Huh? Me?
“Yes, it’s you.” Chen Yuan fixed his gaze on the Steel-headed Ground Rat’s metal-glowing dual blades in front, nodding firmly.
Using these blades to chop trees should be much more efficient than using an axe, right?
“Crack….”
With Chen Yuan’s expectant eyes on it, Iron Head walked towards the tree ahead, lifting its head as its semicircular orange eyes flashed with thought.
After a while,
Iron Head raised its sharp blade high, the silver sheen attached to it, the sharp aura circulating, swinging towards the tree base!
Once the Steel Blade skill was unleashed, the blades easily sliced through the tree roots, leaving a smooth cross-section.
Bang!
In the next moment, the tree slowly fell backwards, crashing to the ground with a loud noise that made the Electric Flying Cat shiver all over, almost instinctually wanting to run away.
But when it saw the other Pet Beasts still staying put, watching curiously, it gritted its teeth and stayed still as well.
“This efficiency is indeed much higher than with an axe, and doesn’t require me to do it myself.”
“Indeed, why think about Pet Beast battles every day when getting them to work is better?”
With these thoughts flashing by, Chen Yuan looked at Iron Head and continued; “Just do it like that, your expression is great.”
“Then divide this piece of wood evenly into three segments…”
Seeing Iron Head’s eyes growing more and more puzzled, Chen Yuan simply waved his hand: “Forget it, I’ll mark the cutting spots, you continue chopping trees.”
Due to a lack of tools, Chen Yuan had to use a tape measure to roughly divide the wood into three segments, and then had Iron Head help with cutting, before waving towards Cola: “It’s your turn.”
He pushed a cart from the warehouse, tied the front end of the cart to Cola with a rope, and finally bundled the three pieces of wood onto the cart, saying to Cola: “Now pull the cart back under the previous tree, Spark will help unload the wood, then you guys come back.”
“Woo woo woo!”
Cola appeared especially excited, immediately starting to stride, its figure moving like the wind, pulling the cart, running towards the Camphor Tree.
Seeing this, Chen Yuan hurriedly reminded: “Run slower, don’t overturn the cart!”
“Chirp.”
Spark gracefully followed behind, unhurried.
With things like this, Iron Head panted as it continued chopping trees, while Chen Yuan marked the cut spots. The only ones left idle were the Electric Flying Cat and Run Run Duck.
“Quack?”
Run Run Duck scratched its butt, swaggered over to Chen Yuan.
Since there’s nothing to do, Duck will head back first.
I want to sunbathe, Duck.
Chen Yuan cast a sideways glance at Run Run Duck, saying: “Don’t rush, you have a job to do.”
“Quack?”
Run Run Duck tilted its head, looking confused.
Chen Yuan didn’t raise his head, saying: “Working during summer easily causes heatstroke, you just sprinkle them with water to cool them down.”
“Quack!”
Run Run Duck’s eyes widened, never expecting its task to be so… so easy!
It nodded cheerfully, then waddled over to Iron Head tirelessly chopping trees, opening its mouth to spray a stream of water.
“Crack?”
Iron Head, drenched in water, paused its actions, casting a puzzled look.
“Quack?”
Don’t get heatstroke, Duck.
“Dian Dian…”
Electric Flying Cat, seeing everyone busy, inexplicably felt an odd sense of shame and emptiness bubbling inside. Its eyes widened slightly, for a moment unsure what to do.
Logically, since the treehouse was being built for it, it should help out, but… but it didn’t know what it could do.
Just then, a voice echoed by its ears: “You rest up first, you’ll be busy later.”
“Dian Dian?”
A glimmer of light flashed in the Electric Flying Cat’s eyes; in that instant, it felt a tinge of satisfaction, yet had a subconscious aversion.
But as it surveyed the scene, seeing the Steel-headed Ground Rat chopping trees, Run Run Duck splashing water, Cola pulling the cart, Spark unloading wood, and Chen Yuan overseeing everything, the softest part deep inside seemed to be touched.
It suddenly turned and ran to a dark corner, fumbled for quite a while, clutching several apples as it ran over to Chen Yuan.
The Electric Flying Cat naturally walked on all fours, but to bring all the apples at once, it stubbornly adopted a standing posture.
As a result, it staggeredly ran, its fluffy big tail trailing on the ground.
Suddenly stumbling, though the Electric Flying Cat tried hard to stabilize itself, its body still ended up tumbling down with the apples it held.
“Dian Dian!”
The Electric Flying Cat ignored its own fall, hurriedly checking the apples beside it. Seeing they weren’t damaged, it finally breathed a long sigh of relief, a smile spreading across its face.
Then, it picked up the apples, tightly hugged them in its arms, and carefully trotted over to Chen Yuan.
Steps slow yet firm.
Well then…
Let me treat everyone to my favorite apples!
You guys will like them, right?
