Beast Taming: I'm Really Just a Forest Ranger

Chapter 53: Genius Beastmasters

Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Genius Beastmasters

September 5th, Thursday.

Cloudy.

Chen Yuan was enjoying a deep sleep when a phone call disturbed him. He groggily reached out, answering the call: “Hello, who is this?”

“Yuan, still not awake? We’re already at the rescue station waiting for you.” Zhang Hao’s voice sounded distant as if from another world, yet it instantly dragged Chen Yuan out of his dreams.

He startled awake, instantly alert: “Alright, alright, I’m heading over now.”

Hanging up the phone, he quickly got up, dressed, did a quick wash-up, and woke up the snoring Cola.

“This silly dog, can’t wake up earlier than me even for a day?” Chen Yuan muttered as he pushed open the door.

“Woof woof.”

The groggy Cola followed behind, swaying as it walked, mouth opening and closing, as if teetering on the edge of sleep and wakefulness.

“Dian Dian.”

The Electric Flying Cat was awakened by the noise of the man and pet. It squinted, glanced, and was swallowed again by endless drowsiness.

It instinctively changed positions, curled into a ball, and snuggled tightly against the carpet, falling back into a deep sleep.

Chen Yuan, along with Spark and Cola, raced to the wild animal rescue station.

He had promised Song Guohao a few days ago to help guide his former colleagues, scheduled for this morning.

“Not late, am I?” Seeing Zhang Hao already waiting at the gate, Chen Yuan quickly approached.

“Just on time, we just arrived too.” Zhang Hao shook his head, stepping aside, “Let’s go in.”

Entering the large open space inside the rescue station, Song Guohao and a former colleague were eagerly awaiting.

After some polite conversation, Song Guohao pointed at Zhang Hao and the former colleague, speaking with a helpless yet nostalgic tone: “Chen, these are all the Beastmasters we have at the rescue station.”

The rescue station had over ten people, a week into the Spiritual Energy Revival, and only two became Beastmasters if you didn’t count him.

“The probability is so low.” Chen Yuan thought to himself.

But these are concerns for those up top, and Chen Yuan didn’t care, focusing on the two: “In terms of Beast Taming, I only know a bit more than you because I successfully meditated a few days earlier.”

“Mr. Chen is being humble.” Zhang Hao teased.

Chen Yuan smiled slightly: “Do you have any questions or things you urgently want to know right now?”

Former colleague Shao Yang immediately raised his hand to ask: “Mr. Chen, I want to know how to quickly improve the strength of a pet beast?”

Zhang Hao raised his hand too: “I want to know as well.”

Chen Yuan secretly griped: “Don’t mention you two, I want to know too.”

But he thought for a moment before slowly answering, “From what I’ve gathered so far, improving a pet beast’s strength comes down to several aspects.”

“Training the pet beast’s physical qualities, enhancing skill proficiency, improving the beast’s rank, and enhancing the Beastmaster’s command abilities.”

“Push forward on these four fronts, and the pet beast’s strength will steadily improve.”

Shao Yang seemed thoughtful and nodded, while Zhang Hao scratched his head, mumbling, “Feels itchy, like I’m growing a brain.”

Then,

Zhang Hao looked up at Chen Yuan, bursting with a reckless fighting spirit: “Mr. Chen, rather than talking, why not have a Beastmaster battle?”

He paused, then added, “I haven’t had a real Beastmaster battle since becoming one.”

“Me neither.” Shao Yang agreed, nodding.

In this small Xuanhe Village, the number of Beastmasters didn’t exceed the fingers on one hand, so naturally, there was no such thing as a Beastmaster battle.

“I heard in big cities, many talented Beastmasters have emerged, each a master of Beast Taming battles.” Shao Yang picked up the topic, his eyes filled with longing.

“Li Tianyun from the Beast Taming Academy Headquarters, a genius who succeeded in his first meditation. It’s said he contracted a very powerful Wind Tiger and has remained undefeated since becoming a Beastmaster, currently the most sought-after genius Beastmaster.”

Chen Yuan had heard of this person online, his stories and achievements are spreading across social media platforms, inexplicably high in popularity and traffic, as if an invisible hand is pushing him into the spotlight.

Famous alongside Li Tianyun are several first-phase students from the Beast Taming Academy, all gifted and attractive, perfectly fitting the promotional needs.

Chen Yuan guessed: “The Beastmaster Association is probably setting examples to fuel the Beast Taming trend, encouraging more to become Beastmasters.”

“Doesn’t Baokun City have any notable genius Beastmasters?” Zhang Hao asked, somewhat discontent.

Shao Yang, well-informed, thought for a moment and suddenly lit up: “There’s indeed one! I heard Baokun City has a genius Beastmaster, also a first-phase student of the Beast Taming Academy, named Zhuang Jianbai. His initial pet beast is apparently a flying pet beast, winning more than losing in pet beast battles.”

Zhang Hao gazed at Shao Yang with a curious expression, questioning, “How do you know everything?”

Shao Yang raised his head proudly: “As long as you follow various social media platforms, including but not limited to forums, Little Black Book, Douhai, you can do it too.”

Song Guohao, having listened quietly, sternly said: “Enough, knowing too much is no good, focus on learning first.”

Shao Yang immediately quieted down.

Chen Yuan chuckled: “Summon your pet beasts, I’ll understand them through a pet beast battle first.”

“Alrighty.” Zhang Hao raised his eyebrows and quickly gestured with both hands, before him appearing a mysterious gray diagram, and a slightly bulky figure slowly surfaced.

“Snort.”

The Gray-armored Wild Boar appeared, completely disregarding the three others, charging directly towards Zhang Hao.

Zhang Hao’s expression changed drastically, waving his hands: “No, no, no, we’re outside, let’s watch the effect.”

“Don’t come over!!!”

The Gray-armored Wild Boar ignored him, thudded on the ground, its hefty body directly pinning Zhang Hao down, lowering its head, snout nearing Zhang Hao’s face.

For a moment, Zhang Hao’s face went pale, devastated.

Chen Yuan inhaled sharply, couldn’t help but mutter: “Thank goodness, thank goodness Cola isn’t a Gray-armored Wild Boar.”

Song Guohao’s lips twitched: “Really… such deep affection.”

Shao Yang also summoned his initial pet beast—a bobbing Fire Dog, covered in orange-yellow fur, bulkier than a Gale Hunting Dog, with fiery red mane on its back, paws with brown padded soles stepping on the ground.

At that moment, Zhang Hao struggled out from the oppressive weight of the Gray-armored Wild Boar, dusting off his dusty clothes with a lowered head, looking at the boar lovingly nudging against him and sighing: “Originally, this fellow did nothing but eat and sleep, but it’s completely changed since it ate that Luminous Fruit.”

“Isn’t its favorability towards me too high now?”

Chen Yuan laughed heartily: “High favorability is a good thing.”

Zhang Hao cast a resentful look: “Really? Want to try it?”

Chen Yuan fell silent.

Song Guohao lightly coughed a few times, saying: “Alright, enough talk about these things, let’s have a pet beast battle first.”

“The first official pet beast battle in Xuanhe Village.”
