Beast Taming: I'm Really Just a Forest Ranger

Chapter 49: Little Taotao and the Big Dog

Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Little Taotao and the Big Dog

The sun rises high, summer sunshine pours down, and there’s already a trace of heat in the air.

A small car is slowly driving along the country road. Cola is lying on the passenger seat, with the wind blowing across, it squints its eyes, looking at the scenery on the right side of the road moving steadily backwards.

Afterwards,

it turns back to look at the driver’s seat, staring intently at Chen Yuan steering the wheel, letting out a low growl of envy: “Awoo.”

I also want to drive awoo.

The small car gradually drives out of Xuanhe Village, and Chen Yuan suddenly sees two people waving to him from the side of the road.

Chen Yuan steps on the brake and slowly stops.

Upon closer inspection, Chen Yuan quickly recognizes the identities of the two people, and a smile rises on his face: “Mrs. Li, is there anything you need help with?”

Mrs. Li’s figure is somewhat hunched, her skin dry and wrinkled, she smiles at Chen Yuan: “Dr. Chen, I’m going to the town with Little Taotao for some errands.”

“Would it be convenient for you to give us a lift?”

Upon hearing this, Chen Yuan looks down at the obediently standing Little Taotao beside Mrs. Li—held by Mrs. Li’s hand, she raises her cute little round face, staring at him with black eyes, her cheeks red, her skin not very fair but exceptionally clean, with two braids hanging behind.

“Hello, Mr. Chen.” Little Taotao smiles sweetly.

“How old are you this year?” Chen Yuan couldn’t resist patting Little Taotao’s head.

Little Taotao’s eyes curved with smile: “Mr. Chen, I’m six years old this year.”

Chen Yuan nods and then turns to Mrs. Li: “Mrs. Li, Little Taotao, please get in the car.”

In the countryside, hitching a ride is very common. If someone needs to go to the city for errands or shopping, they’ll choose to hitch a ride.

“Spark, sorry to trouble you.” Chen Yuan turns his head towards Spark in the backseat.

“Chirp.”

Spark gently nods, flapping its wings and flying out of the car, soaring in the air.

Actually, with Spark’s flying speed, if it wasn’t for the burden of Chen Yuan and Cola, it could quickly reach Nanhe Town.

“Thank you, Mr. Chen.” Little Taotao responds sweetly, pulling Mrs. Li’s hand, supporting her as they both sit in the back seat.

Chen Yuan watches this scene through the rearview mirror and smiles: “Little Taotao is so considerate, Mrs. Li is really blessed.”

Mrs. Li smiles kindly: “Dr. Chen, you flatter her.”

Chen Yuan asks again: “Are Little Taotao’s parents coming home this year?”

“They’ll be back for the New Year,” Mrs. Li replies.

“That’s good.” Chen Yuan nods.

Little Taotao’s parents work outside all year round, leaving only her and Mrs. Li at home, life is rather tough.

Last New Year, her parents were busy with overtime for extra pay and didn’t come home.

The two chatted briefly, Mrs. Li worried about motion sickness, closed her eyes to rest, while Chen Yuan focused on driving.

Little Taotao sits behind the passenger seat, she eagerly looks out the window at the rapidly passing scenery, her little feet swinging up and down.

Suddenly,

Little Taotao spots Cola lying on the passenger seat, her eyes widen with excitement as if discovering treasure: “Big…”

Before she could shout in excitement, Little Taotao suddenly remembers her grandmother resting her eyes beside her, she lowers her voice, whispering softly: “Big doggy!”

“Awoo?”

Cola turns in confusion, seeing this little human girl staring at it with a look of surprise and joy, it can’t help but raise its head, letting out a series of light hmms: “Awoo awoo awoo.”

“Big doggy, can I touch you?” Little Taotao’s eyes sparkle, her face still full of surprise, she cautiously asks.

“Awoo~”

Cola slowly nods.

Considering you’re so well-behaved, I’ll let you touch me once.

Little Taotao reaches out her right hand, gently stroking Cola’s furry back, a more radiant smile spreads across her face: “Big doggy, you’re so nice.”

“Awoo awoo~”

Cola twists its body, snuggling closer to Little Taotao, a smile it can’t contain appears on its face.

“Mr. Chen, what’s the big dog’s name?” Little Taotao asks.

“Cola.”

“Cola…” Little Taotao’s eyes brighten, her mouth curves into a smile, “The big doggy has the same name as the drink I have.”

“Does the big doggy also cost three yuan?”

Chen Yuan looks at the silly, cheerful Cola and falls silent for a moment.

An hour later, the small car drives into Nanhe Town, Chen Yuan finds a place to park.

“Dr. Chen, thank you so much for today,” Mrs. Li says.

Chen Yuan smiles: “It’s on the way. When are you heading back? If it’s convenient, I can take you.”

Mrs. Li shakes her head: “No need for trouble on the way back, the child has a relative who can give us a ride.”

“Alright.” Chen Yuan nods, “Then I’ll be off, take care.”

“Goodbye, Mr. Chen.” Little Taotao’s cute face blossoms into a smile, she waves towards Chen Yuan, then looks at Cola, shouting loudly, “Goodbye, Cola!”

“Awoo awoo awoo!” Cola wags its tail in response.

Bidding farewell to the two, Chen Yuan walks on the main street of Nanhe Town, feeling deeply how different Nanhe Town is compared to last time he came.

The wave of Spiritual Energy Revival is sweeping through every corner vigorously.

Every street and alley, either displays slogans or hangs posters:

[Become a Beastmaster, Honor a Family]

[Embrace the path of Beastmaster, embark on a brilliant life]

This is really characteristic of Donghuang’s propaganda.

Moreover, as Chen Yuan walks on the street, he occasionally sees pedestrians walking with pet beasts, ranging from common cat and dog types to small-sized and seemingly cute pet beasts Chen Yuan has never seen before.

No passersby would be curious or give strange looks.

Fortunately, Chen Yuan is not a socially anxious person, he directly approaches a few unfamiliar pet beasts, asking their owners if he can pet them.

Three people agree, one refuses because “the pet beast has a wild nature.”

In this way, it only took half an hour after arriving in Nanhe Town, Chen Yuan gained three Source Points.

Feeling cheerful, Chen Yuan hums a tune as he heads to the courier shop, picking up his package—a plain box.

Right then,

his phone rings, and Chen Yuan answers. Zhou Xu’s voice comes from inside:

“Chen, I got news that you’ve received your package.”

Chen Yuan is taken aback, quickly reacting: “Zhou, you sent this?”

Zhou Xu smiles slightly: “More accurately, the president asked me to send it.”

After a pause, he explains: “Didn’t you say you needed Wind Language Grass the other day? Once the president found out, he asked around for you.”

“He happened to have a friend with two stalks, so the president bought them and sent them to you.”

Chen Yuan quickly shakes his head to refuse: “Isn’t this inappropriate?”

Zhou Xu laughs: “The president asked me to tell you, do not refuse. The contribution you’ve made to the Association can’t be compensated by just a plaque. We need to give you a tangible reward.”

“We didn’t know before what you needed, now that we know, we naturally have to find a way to provide it to you.”

“It’s considered the president’s intention, and also the gesture of everyone in the Association.”

“Please make sure to accept it.”
