Chapter 42: Luminous Fruit Tree
Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Luminous Fruit Tree
The morning sun was growing hotter,
Run Run Duck stood in the field with its rear in the air, watering the fruit kernels one by one.
It hummed along to the “Duck March” that no one could understand while enjoying the fun of watering.
After finishing the watering, it pretended to wipe its forehead, fixed its hairstyle, and retreated to Chen Yuan’s side.
Chen Yuan gave a thumbs up: “Good, we’ll have fried dried fish for lunch today.”
“Quack quack.”
Run Run Duck immediately beamed with joy.
Later, Cola planned to help Run Run Duck get familiar with the farm environment, but the latter shook its head and swaggered over to the fishpond to lie down.
It started sunbathing again.
“It’s really the life of a retired old cadre.” Chen Yuan smiled helplessly.
After breakfast,
just as Chen Yuan was about to go for a walk, he received a call from Song Guohao.
“Song, what’s up?”
“I need your help with something.” Song Guohao’s deep voice sounded.
Chen Yuan chuckled: “No need to be polite, Song.”
“I’ll get straight to the point then.” Song Guohao paused slightly, and explained, “Actually, Uncle Zhao’s family has a troubling issue.”
“Oh?” Chen Yuan looked curious.
“Doesn’t his family have a gray-armored wild boar?”
“Yes.” Chen Yuan nodded, he had interacted with that gray-armored wild boar to gain Source Point.
“For the past two nights, Uncle Zhao has been hearing the gray-armored wild boar screaming terribly, and when he goes to check, finds it covered in scratch marks.”
Chen Yuan’s eyes flashed, intuitively guessing: “Fighting with other Extraordinary Creatures?”
Song Guohao neither confirmed nor denied but continued: “Uncle Zhao asked us to help investigate, and when we went over, we discovered a Spirit Plant on his farm.”
“Do you understand now why the gray-armored wild boar was injured?”
Chen Yuan paused, his mind racing, and came up with a bold speculation: “Extraordinary Creatures wanted to claim the Spirit Plant, so the gray-armored wild boar tried to obstruct and they started fighting?”
“That’s my guess too; it’s probably very close.” Song Guohao said solemnly, then sighed in a very helpless tone, “But you know our rescue station’s situation; currently, there isn’t a Beastmaster who can handle this, so we have to ask you to step in.”
Chen Yuan readily agreed: “No problem.”
“Will you come over to check the situation first or wait until tonight?” Song Guohao asked.
Chen Yuan thought for a moment: “I’ll come over to take a look first.”
“Alright, I’ll have Zhang Hao wait for you.”
…
A dozen minutes later,
Chen Yuan met Zhang Hao at Uncle Zhao’s farm gate, with Uncle Zhao also standing by.
After greeting both of them, Uncle Zhao quickly said, “Chen, everyone says you’re the most capable Beastmaster in Xuanhe Village, you must help me with this.”
“Don’t worry, Uncle Zhao, let’s take a look at the situation first.” Chen Yuan soothed Uncle Zhao’s emotion and gently asked, “Could you tell me when exactly did this happen, Uncle Zhao?”
“Starting from the night before last, and also last night, it’s making my wife Aunt Wang and I on edge all day, unable to get our work done.” Uncle Zhao looked worried and sighed.
Chen Yuan calmly said: “Don’t worry, we’ll help you resolve this.”
Entering the farm,
Chen Yuan quickly saw the gray-armored wild boar roaming around, and upon closer inspection, indeed found several shallow scratches on its body.
Now the gray-armored wild boar was a full circle bigger than when Chen Yuan first saw it, combined with the scars on its body, a fierce aura greeted him.
Its vigilant eyes scrutinized Spark and Cola by Chen Yuan’s side, then continuously stomped the ground with its limbs, snorting and puffing out heat, looking extremely anxious and uneasy.
Chen Yuan was taken aback: “Uncle Zhao, are you letting it roam around the farm like this, not keeping it in the pigsty?”
Hearing this, Uncle Zhao sighed: “I’d like to, but the pigsty can’t contain it; it can easily jump out.”
Chen Yuan chuckled helplessly: “Indeed, then there’s nothing we can do.”
Avoiding the gray-armored wild boar like a powder keg ready to explode at any moment, Uncle Zhao led them to a large tree about ten meters high.
The tree was lush with branches and leaves, with a dozen or so golden fruits hanging from it.
Chen Yuan had never seen this tree or these fruits before.
“Song checked the documents, this is the Luminous Fruit Tree; its fruits can enhance the perception of Extraordinary Creatures.” At this moment, Zhang Hao’s voice sounded in Chen Yuan’s ear.
Chen Yuan turned his head to see Zhang Hao raise his eyebrows and continued, “Luminous Fruit is considered a Level-Two resource, selling it to the Association would be worth at least ten Contribution Values.”
Chen Yuan raised an eyebrow: “Uncle Zhao really is lucky.”
Uncle Zhao looked confused, catching up on their conversation, and realized: “So you mean we could sell these fruits for money?”
Both nodded.
“Sell to the market or supermarket?” Uncle Zhao continued to ask.
Chen Yuan smiled: “Neither, sell them to the Beastmaster Association.”
Uncle Zhao’s expression became even more bewildered.
Chen Yuan didn’t dwell on the topic, waving it off: “Let’s focus on solving the current trouble first, we can discuss this later.”
Much later,
Chen Yuan and Zhang Hao walked out of the farm side by side.
“It seems our guesses were correct, most likely some Extraordinary Creatures trying to seize the Luminous Fruit and then got into a fight with the gray-armored wild boar.” After on-site investigation, Chen Yuan was more certain of his guess.
“These Extraordinary Creatures have quite keen noses, finding their way here.”
Logically, Uncle Zhao’s farm is located in the center of Xuanhe Village, quite a distance from the nearest woods, it should be quite safe.
“If only there were surveillances, then we could find out everything.” Zhang Hao shrugged.
“Indeed.” Chen Yuan agreed, nodding solemnly, while deciding to install surveillance on his own farm.
In this new era, having surveillance is very necessary.
“By the way, have you contracted a Pet Beast?” Chen Yuan turned to Zhang Hao, curiously inquired.
“Ahem.” Zhang Hao showed a rare embarrassed look, his voice gradually shrinking, “I have, it’s just like the one you saw…”
Chen Yuan was initially taken aback, then realized: “Oh, the gray-armored wild boar.”
He looked at the somewhat embarrassed Zhang Hao and joked: “You’ve finally turned the corner and decided to become a Piggy Knight.”
Then,
he patted Zhang Hao’s shoulder, and speaking earnestly: “It’s alright, Haozi, every Extraordinary Creature has unlimited potential and possibilities.”
“The gray-armored wild boar isn’t bad; in my view, it’s actually quite good.”
Zhang Hao suddenly lifted his head, his eyes full of anticipation signaling for Chen Yuan to continue.
Chen Yuan cleared his throat, and continued: “The gray-armored wild boar has thick skin and can take a beating, it complements you as a Beastmaster perfectly, doesn’t it?”
Zhang Hao, who was originally listening intently, suddenly changed his expression, shouting out: “Oh, shut it.”
With laughter, the two quietly awaited the nightfall.
