Bear School Astartes
Chapter 1443 - 1408: Rebellion
Just relying on a sudden attack and equipment made of Demon-Blocking Gold, a few people teamed up to subdue a Great Mage’s Redanian soldiers.
Now it almost looked like wheat flattened by a gust of wind.
Dikoschek’s face was still facing Geralt, and the sudden turn of events happened right beside him.
The soldiers clad in full armor flew past like rag dolls, accompanied by the sound of wind, crashing into the luxurious corridor walls of Airetusa.
The clattering sound of armor pieces clashing with the wall, along with the muffled grunts of humans, echoed loudly.
The interval was so short that Dikoschek couldn’t even make out how many people had flown past him.
Geralt glanced around, stepping aside from in front of Dikoschek to give way.
Now, in front of the spy leader, there was only the wall.
The heavy footsteps behind him had already approached closely.
The oppressive feeling was as if it were stepping on Dikoschek’s heart.
"..." Dikoschek first shook his head with a sigh, then turned around, "Philippa said you should be lured away tonight. But obviously, she was wrong."
Having changed into [Smaug], Lann, in his solid and heavy armor, along with his own body, stood before Dikoschek like a terrifying golem.
The cat eyes gleaming slightly in the darkness looked down at him.
At this moment, the spy leader truly felt what it was like to have this legendary figure, no longer in a relaxed state and starting to tense up, standing before him.
The soldiers, knocked away with a dull thud, weren’t dead, nor were they severely injured, but now they huddled in the corner, looking at their rear with eyes as panicked as rabbits.
Vizimir specifically instructed him not to bring those soldiers who participated in the Battle of Sodden Mountain when he was asked to assist Philippa.
At that time, he found it amusing and thought it was making a mountain out of a molehill.
Now, who’s the one who’s funny?
Dikoschek thought in a chaotic mind.
"I didn’t use lethal force on you." Lann looked down at him calmly, "Because just now you seemed to actually only be capturing, without wanting to take advantage of the chaos to kill anyone."
"Now, it’s time, Dikoschek."
"Your actions have already begun, and there’s no turning back from the drawn bow, so tell me, were you really just trying to eliminate the faction of Wizards friendly to the Southern Niflgaard?"
"Think carefully before you answer, Dikoschek."
"Because let me remind you, first of all, this is Airetusa, symbolizing the power and status of the Wizards. Generally, even a king coming here is only qualified to stay at the ground level Luoxia Palace. Yet, you’ve started to act here. Secondly..."
The young Demon Hunter tilted his head slightly, and just this one expressionless action made the spy leader’s heart race threefold.
"There are quite a few people looking for trouble with me tonight, so my patience in dealing with them is running low, you understand, don’t you?"
"Completely understand." Dikoschek struggled to open his mouth, "Sir."
"But I want to correct one thing: those Wizards are not so-called ’a faction friendly to the South,’ they are damn traitors, and soon, we will see the evidence!"
The spy leader carefully replied as he propped up a soldier who had been hurled to his feet, still gasping for air because of the lung blow.
"In other words, you still have no evidence."
"Stance, and the interpersonal relationships they have." Dikoschek calmly said, "Even before obtaining evidence, enough traces can already be seen. Now is an extraordinary time, one must act first, then talk about evidence."
For a spy leader dealing in intelligence, Lann indeed believed he had that level of skill.
But having that skill doesn’t mean that what Tishaya and the others were worried about doesn’t exist: without evidence, he could call anyone a traitor he wanted to? Isn’t purging dissent done like this all the time? Philippa Eilhart’s reputation isn’t that good after all.
"Why didn’t you communicate with me beforehand?"
This remains the biggest issue.
If this group of theirs was really just making plans for the North and South tensions, which were about to escalate to their peak again, doing an internal cleansing first.
Then there’s no reason to bypass Lann, and not notify him!
His feud with the Niflgaard Empire is well-known, and there’s absolutely no possibility of reconciliation...
"I had such an idea, but Philippa said she could keep you busy tonight, and by the time you’re done and back, we would be long finished here."
Now, Dikoschek actually looked a bit sincere.
"At the risk of angering me, with just this unclear, unplanned word?"
Lann maintained his skepticism.
But while he maintained his skepticism, others did as well.
Dikoschek took a deep breath and looked at Lann.
The small eyes on that fleshy face scrutinized him now.
"Because... With all due respect, you too are untrustworthy, sir."
"This era is not what it used to be, ’Know that the Age of Sword and Axe is near, an Age of scorn is about to arrive.’
"In this day and age, who trusts whom? As long as you can breach the North, never mind that you wiped out Niflgaard’s tens of thousands of troops, even if you slept with Enshir’s mother before his eyes, what then? He’d rather send his lover to your bed!"
"In this age, everything has a price. Enshir once destroyed Sintra, so what? Isn’t there a Sintra man among these warlocks?"
"What is their status in the North? And what is it in the South?"
