Chapter 1345 1313: The Richness of Nutrition

  • Next Chapter

It would be difficult for ordinary people to understand what Lann sees in his vision using [Spiritual Vision] at this moment.

Facing Master William's invitation from the rocking chair, Lann nodded, indicating his agreement.

Yet, at the same time, he did not move his feet, having no intention of getting closer to the old man.

Because they were already close enough.

The amber cat eyes, becoming inexplicably profound, seemed to scan around aimlessly.

But, in Lann's senses at this moment, the sound his dragon scale plate armor boots made on the stone surface of the Byronwiss Moon Viewing Terrace was not the powerful clatter of armor.

Instead, it was similar to the sound of boots stepping on the cap of a mushroom-like organism, emitting a slightly sticky friction sound.

In Lann's vision, the entire Byronwiss Academy building, and even the tranquil lake and lakeshore beyond, were covered by a blanket of fungal organisms.

The fungal blanket, emitting a luminous white glow, appeared sticky and disgusting in form but paradoxically had a sense of holiness and transcendence.

The vast fungal blanket's center and origin point, undoubtedly, was the old man sitting not far from Lann in the rocking chair.

The old man's neck had already grown many mushrooms emitting light, and these fungi seemed to extend beneath his opulent and heavy robe.

Spreading along his body and the rocking chair, eventually forming this grand fungal blanket.

Master William's body is the origin, but compared to this sprawling fungal blanket, can a mere human body truly be considered the main body?

"Back when I killed your student, the [Spider That Webs Time], I glanced briefly at a corner... of your true form."

Lann described the degree of 'corner' in his words by pinching his index finger and thumb together to show a tiny distance.

Continuing his astonished turning of his head, as if searching for any place untouched by the fungal blanket.

"But I didn't expect your 'true appearance' could resist the influence of the Ancient Gods."

Back when the cycle in Yan'an reversed time, in exhaustion, Lann only raised his head to see the small traces of fungal blanket beside and on Master William.

But with time passing, the special senses obtained, capable of observing the deeper truth of things, and the more 'seen', the deeper you can 'see' with [Spiritual Vision].

Having grown significantly as the Demon Hunter crossed several worlds, witnessing deeper powers, scenes full of mysteries and knowledge.

Now, he doesn't even need the temporary stimulation from the blood of the higher beings to imprint Master William's 'true form' into his eyes.

The blood moon outside Byronwiss is a manifestation of the power of the Ancient Gods.

But the full moon over the vast lake within Byronwiss symbolizes Master William's isolation from the influence outside.

Yet even so, while this pair of eyes observes Master William's 'true form' all around, this unique sense still stimulates a feeling in Lann's brain of seeing something novel, peering into the deeper world.

[Spiritual Vision] enhanced.

[Spiritual Vision] is not merely narrow 'sight'; it allows one to see a truer, deeper world, almost taking one to the depths of the world.

Just like earlier, the tactile sensations and sounds beneath Lann's feet.

To ordinary people, he surely still stepped on the hard stone ground with plate armor boots, producing a powerful sound.

But in Lann's perspective, these sounds and sensations are genuine.

Though the pleasing enhancement of [Spiritual Vision] occurred, almost simultaneously.

Lann first instinctively shut off his [Spiritual Vision], and the old man who had been gently rocking on the chair suddenly steadied it with the staff in his hand.

The old face turned towards the Demon Hunter, and the voice, almost sounding like it might die of old age, warned.

"Don't look anymore. You shouldn't see the things here."

The emphasis in the tone was on the word 'here'.

The elderly man with the metallic eyepatch, until confirming that Lann had turned off his [Spiritual Vision], once again put the staff into his arms, and the rocking chair resumed its gentle motion.

The dragon scale interlocked plate armor boots, after a brief pause, moved again, stepping on the stone surface with a strong sound, heading towards the old man at the edge of the terrace.

The huge full moon in the sky was quietly peaceful without a ripple, just casting down moonlight.

And Lann now stood by the old man's rocking chair.

"So, is this the possibility you see with your 'eyes'?"

Lann casually placed one hand on the back of the rocking chair, gently swaying with the chair's inertia.

He pointedly looked at the metal eyepatch covering the upper half of the old man's face, blocking out any light.

"This is also the only hope I can see," the old man replied to Lann, speaking slowly.

"Because our knowledge is shallow, our view narrow."*2

The last sentence was whispered simultaneously by the old man and the young Demon Hunter, with a tacit understanding.

It was one of the maxims from the Byronwiss period, intended to remind people to humbly absorb knowledge.

But looking at Yan'an today, this reminder is of no use.

In fact, to be precise, Lann spontaneously closed the enhanced [Spiritual Vision] he had gained from witnessing Master William's 'true appearance' before Master William spoke up.

Because at that moment, he also felt a sudden vigilance arise within him.

— His [Spiritual Vision], having observed some deep-level information specific to Yan'an, seemed to connect more tightly with this land.

If he were merely traveling within one world, this might be considered a good thing.

After all, a tight connection with the land would, at the very least, be akin to the Ancient Deer-headed Spirit Lann had once hunted, resembling an Earth God?

However, this is the unpredictable Yan'an.

Forming a tight connection here... Lann was not that bold.

Yet, precisely because of this unique feeling now, a feeling he hadn't perceived when his [Spiritual Vision] was still shallow and immature.

It prompted a sudden realization in Lann, allowing him to partially understand Master William's plan.

"Your vision is sufficiently deep now, this is good, very good."

In the rocking chair, the old man spoke warmly, comforting and congratulating.

His manner of speaking hadn't changed at all since Lann first sought him out at Byronwiss.

But immediately, Master William's tone shifted.

"But your growth in vision, its depth, has little connection with Yan'an, with the higher beings, and the Ancient Gods, and that's even better! Even better!"

The initiation of Lann's [Spiritual Vision] was born in this world. The academic theories regarding this special sense were also born in the Byronwiss Academy during Master William's time.

However, Lann's growth was not bound here.

Through those eyes capable of discerning reality, he saw many things ordinary people couldn't even dream of in a lifetime.

He witnessed in the magical Middle Ages, where mages wielded dangerous and immense chaotic energies like knitting a sweater into magic, and personally 'cut open' many spells.

In the Greek world, he saw the existence of 'civilizations of the past' as described in science fiction stories, along with the creations made by Yishu Technology they left behind.

He observed the extraordinarily splendid and lively nature, glimpsed the body structures of apex predators through combat with those powerful and beautiful creatures.

Also, the Flame World, born from the combustion of Primordial Fire, stabilizing a once chaotic environment.

The Ardan world, wherein a Creator God 'just' created the world not long ago, still watching over the happenings above.

This Demon Hunter's journey was brilliantly colorful.

Even Master William himself, the creator of the [Spiritual Vision] theory, never witnessed what Lann has seen.

Lann now, although the height of his vision hasn't reached Master William's level, the 'richness' of nutrients his vision has absorbed throughout its growth far exceeds Master William's.

If viewed from other planes, the 'richness of nutrients' may not be significant—what matters ultimately is the height the vision can achieve.

But if placed in Yan'an...

Master William's staff swayed, allowing one to sense his joyous mood.

In Yan'an, in this world, the deepest knowledge and the deepest truths of the world are undoubtedly those Ancient Gods and higher beings who crave the divine child.

And here, the enhancement of [Spiritual Vision] must inevitably be closely related to them.

Otherwise, it entails observing the remnants of the Ancient Gods' powers, the operation of rituals, at worst being able to see the familiars of the Ancient Gods, or becoming a familiar oneself.

With such nourishment, does the enhanced [Spiritual Vision] truly possess the credentials to stand before the Ancient Gods?

Furthermore,

If Master William's theory is completely correct, the enhancement of [Spiritual Vision] could ultimately raise one's level of life to that of the Ancient God.

Then, relying on such nourishment to enhance [Spiritual Vision], could a 'human' who reaches the same realm as the Ancient Gods really differ from other Ancient Gods?
