Chapter 375: Do Not Believe in Demons (Part 1)

Nailisi was not angry at being chased out. She could tell that Saleen was not thinking of doing those sorts of things with Sika, but had something to tell her in secret. Those were the things that he did not want to let other people know, but were not necessary to her.

But, with the way Saleen had chased her out, even adding a mute enchantment, everyone would think that it was to eliminate unnecessary sound without a doubt.

Master is getting more and more cunning. Nailisi leaned against the front door while fondling with the dagger that Saleen had given her. The dagger that Saleen made for her could not be worn on her fingers as a ring anymore so she had to put it in a leather sheath on her waist. Nailisi had yet to get used to it.

Although she was gifted with combat instincts, she did not have the same skill in combat as a human who had gone through many fights. Fondling her dagger, Nailisi thought, I have so much time every day. I should pick up swordcraft from Jola. Although I promised Master that I would learn magic, I can’t change the fact that my body is flowing with demon’s blood and reconfiguration spells can only last a day. If I were to fight, I would need to rely on my skills to fight hand to hand.

Regrettably, I’ll never be able to practice the sword aura because of my bloodline. Next time, when I get my fourth ability, I have to find a way to achieve long distance attack skills. If not, I won’t be able to help Master.

Just when she was thinking, she saw Jola waving at the stairs. Nailisi turned around and looked. Saleen had cast a magic lock on the door so there should not have been anyone rushing in, and Irene had no power to do so either.

Nailisi stood up and walked towards Jola. Nailisi found it funny to see Jola sneaking down the stairs. He’s a swordmaster, but he doesn’t look prestigious at all. Everyone around Master is so weird, but they are quite capable.

“Why are you looking for me?” Nailisi’s facial expression changed to one of apathy as she walked down the stairs. Her image was created based off of the Myers Goddess, so she immediately looked coldly elegant once she stopped smiling.

Jola’s heart was in his throat but he did not dare to have any thoughts since Nailisi was the maidservant of Saleen. He simply replied, “Nailisi, I’d like to ask for your advice.”

“I am just a maidservant. If there’s a problem, please talk to Mister Saleen.”

“It’s better to not disturb Lord now.” Jola was smart. He saw that Nailisi had not left even though she had rejected him, meaning that there was space for negotiation.

“Alright, I’m hungry. Make me ten portions of food. I’ll wait for you,” Nailisi said bluntly.

Jola listened and went to the kitchen. The storage in the kitchen was filled with large amount of prawn meat. Jola prepared ten portions of prawn meat for Nailisi, accompanied with some sauce he had made, and served them on a big plate.

Nailisi sat at the table and started eating slowly. Her appetite was not any smaller than Sika’s, but Nailisi liked to copy human behavior and looked exactly like Lex when she ate.

Jola looked at the way Nailisi ate and was certain that Saleen was from a huge family. There were some things that could not be picked up unless… unless she was a demon.

Maybe others would not have imitated Lex, but Nailisi was different since her feelings were more sensitive than any other human. The very first time she had met Lex, she could tell that each and every action by Lex had the power to influence the others. This skill had been accumulated by imperial kinsman for thousands of years.

Nailisi had fully picked up Lex’s way of behaving and that made Jola, a swordmaster who had a wealth of experience, fall head over heels for her.

She’s such a perfect woman, yet he made her his maidservant. Lord Saleen is so heartless! Plus, this woman could be a great mage. Jola became even more respectful towards her, which was a rare occurrence for him. Even towards the daughter of Emperor Jupiter, Jola had thought of how to build a relationship that was more than friendship. But towards Nailisi, he had no drive.

“Tell me, what do you want to ask?” After Nailisi had eaten some, she set down the cutlery and smiled faintly at Jola.

“Not much. I feel Lord Saleen doesn’t seem to value me, so I wanted to ask for your opinion.”

Doesn’t value you? How so? Nailisi protested against the injustice on behalf of Saleen. She wanted to eat the bastard, but Saleen would refuse. That was how much she valued him.

Nailisi showed no differences in her expression and replied, “It’s easy to get his attention. Flaunt your advantages and Master will provide you with suitable opportunities.”

“But I have too many advantages!” Jola answered naturally and regretted doing so immediately. What he had said sounded frivolous, and Nailisi might belittle him.

“You are not loyal enough.” What Nailisi said made Jola jittery. He knew that Saleen played his cards well. He had no idea how Saleen had gotten his hands on the three kings, and he did not think that he was any stronger than the three kings. He thought he was loyal enough being Saleen’s follower.

“I’ll be frank. From what I see, you are not as loyal as the five mages. If I were Master, I would not even bring you onboard.”

“How could that be?!” Jola felt very aggrieved.

“If Master could feel your loyalty, he would have made you a weapon himself. Your current weapon, Tears, was made by Aini, right?”

Jola kept quiet and his thoughts were in a whirl. He then replied, “What can I do? I was thinking that if I were to leave, Lord would make me disappear from this world.”

“Are you unsatisfied?”

“No, Lord Saleen will be very successful in the future. Even if I become a golden grand swordmaster, it would not be embarrassing to follow him. But I don’t know how to gain his trust.” Jola knew that Nailisi was the closest person to Saleen. He could not tell Saleen these things, but he could inform him of them through Nailisi. Thus, he was straightforward and sincere.

“Saleen likes actions over empty words. If you want to get a deserving position, go and do something.” Nailisi continued eating her seafood as she spoke.

“Like what?” Jola was puzzled. His abilities were in combat, but Saleen had plenty of strong people around him. There was no need for him to interfere in ordinary combat.

“Do you really want to know?”

“Of course!”

“What benefits do I have?” Nailisi changed her expression and Jola immediately sensed her becoming friendly.

He dared not act dissolute, but replied, “You are the closest person to the Lord. What benefits could I give you?”

“Do one thing for me then.” Nailisi felt smug. Her behavior was really useful. No wonder Lex could control the swordsmen in her hands and so many were willing to devote their lives to her.

“What is it? Tell me.”

“I have not thought of anything yet, but if you promise to help me, I’ll help you out with this.” Nailisi wiped her smile off of her face, and Jola felt tortured but could not do anything.

“Okay, I promise you.”

“Don’t reply so quickly. Although I don’t have Master’s capabilities, your fate will be worse than anything you can imagine if you go against your vow.”

Jola smiled and said, “If you want me to die, I would not refuse.”

“You’re just used to cheating girls. I hope I will only hear this once. The next time you say that, I’ll make sure you die,” Nailisi said, and beckoned at Jola. Jola automatically walked towards Nailisi, her emerald green eyes shimmering with gold rays.

She raised her hand towards Jola. Despite being afraid, Jola did not pull away. Nailisi drew lightly on Jola’s forehead with her finger, then his blood seeped out and formed an eerie rune on his forehead. Then, Nailisi blew a breath of air towards the wound and the blood stopped. Jola felt dizzy for a second as though he had lost the ability to control his body for a moment.

Jola instinctively backed off and Nailisi smiled, “Don’t worry. I said one thing, and I would not lie. But if you do not do the one thing, hm… have you seen the three kings?”

“Yes, I have.”

“If you were to go against your promise, you will turn into a skeleton like them and no women will like you.” Nailisi smiled maliciously and Jola broke out in a cold sweat. Up until then, he had not known what Nailisi would do to him, but he believed that she was telling the truth.

Nailisi enjoyed looking at Jola’s expression. It’s so fun to fool around with the human soul. It’s such a pity that I am not a big demon and I only know limited tricks.

Jola was unlucky. If he had known that Nailisi was an imp, he would not have let her finger touch his body. He would not have dared to allow it even if he had been a golden grand swordmaster, let alone lower his defenses to allow Nailisi to draw a demon rune on his soul.

Promise one thing? Hmph, after one, there’s another one, another ten or hundred or thousand… believing in a demon, this man deserves it.

“Jola, it’s useless to ingratiate yourself to me as I am just a maidservant. If you want to achieve Master’s trust, you’d better go for Sika.” Nailisi had secured her benefits and decided not to tease Jola any further.

“Sika? But she is Lord’s …”

“I’m not asking you to go after her. Sika brought three thousand Caucasians to seek refuge from Master. These Caucasians’ fighting skills are suitable for battle but are not ideal for one-on-one combat. Aren’t you a swordcraft teacher? When you return, suggest to Master that you do not want to form an army, but want to work for Sika as a swordcraft teacher.”

“But…”

“Master is a mage, not a noble. He cares most about the people around him. Even if you had the ability to form an army, it would not be as strong as Viscountess Lex’s. Why are you giving up what you are best at?”

Jola was suddenly enlightened. He had mistaken Saleen’s niche from the very beginning. He had thought that Saleen wanted to open up a territory to become a king, so he had never thought about what he should do. Saleen is a mage. Of course he will pursue the true meaning of magic. Why would he waste his time otherwise?

When it came down to it, Saleen only wanted a safe environment for him to practice magic with no worries. Those Caucasians would become Saleen’s most trusted army, and if he were to be on good terms with them, Saleen would of course hold him in high regard.

“Thank you, Nailisi.”

“You’re welcome. But remember, you promised me one thing.” Nailisi pushed away the plate, and only then did Jola realize that when he had not been paying attention, Nailisi had finished the plate of prawns that was enough to feed ten people.
