Chapter 129: Hell’s Magic Nucleus (Part 2)

Most of the wind blades missed their targets and Saleen could not salvage the situation, so he instinctively opened another wind blade scroll. He could not control Wind Magic yet, so he could only use the large impact area of the wind blades to stop the enemy’s advance.

The stone spears in the ground would last for at least half an hour more, and those magic beasts had begun to jump over the spears. Saleen cast more than ten wind blades in one go, and because he could not take aim, more than ten beasts had already come as close as twenty meters from him.

Then, Saleen calmly cast three swamp illusions in succession, and the used scrolls formed a stack at his feet. Without any restraining magic to weaken the beasts, the usage of the wind blades returned a horrible result. Most of the wind blades were blocked by the magic shields on the beasts and only a minority of them were struck by the wind blades due to the angles of incidence which allowed the blades to go around the shields. Even so, the beasts that were hit were only injured on the surface.

Using the magic in the scrolls would not deplete magic chords, but if a person wanted to control the magic inside, they needed to have a certain level of familiarity and practice with that particular magic.

Saleen arranged the three swamp illusions in a triangular formation, thus blocking the path of the beasts. There was a gap of roughly one meter between the swamp illusions so the magic beasts could squeeze through that gap. However, to get through this gap, the beasts would need to cleverly maneuver past it. The beasts needed to turn into that narrow gap and reduce their speed in order to advance forward.

Saleen had killed more than forty magic beasts with the scrolls. He had finally experienced what it was like to use money to kill someone. A cheap Grade 3 magic scroll also costed around three hundred to five hundred gold coins. Those scrolls which were special or had a longer duration of spell storage might have even cost more than one thousand gold coins.

Within the short span of three minutes, Saleen had used more than fifty scrolls. If he had not been mentally strong, he would have fainted. Just like that, more than twenty thousand gold pieces had been spent, and Saleen felt wonderful. When the speed of money expenditure reached a certain level, a person would begin to realize the power of money. With enough money, one could truly look down on sentient beings.

Saleen was just a Grade 3 mage. Under normal circumstances, when a Grade 3 mage was faced with hundreds of Grade 4 magic beasts, the only thing to do was to wait for death. However, Saleen calmly opened the scrolls and concentrated on attacking the beasts which managed to come through the gap between the three swamp illusions.

The situation was not looking too good for Saleen. Perhaps the scrolls would help him overcome this crisis, but the Grade 4 beasts worked together in groups. This meant that there were many powerful beasts in this interdimensional space. On the Myers Mainland, magic wolves were only Grade 2 or 3 creatures, and there were less than ten of them in any single group. However, the beasts in this hell attacked together in the hundreds. On the Myers Mainland, only Grade 1 beasts moved together in such huge groups.

The leader of the beasts walked in circles outside of the swamp illusions. It must have realized that this strategy was not working on its enemies. The leader glared ferociously at the mage casting spells from inside the tent and roared restlessly. The magic beasts who were attacking stopped immediately. Then, they began to spit fireballs from their mouths towards the camp.

More than two hundred fireballs were fired in total, creating an exceedingly spectacular scene. Saleen squatted down without hesitation. Some fireballs destroyed the swamp illusions, while others landed on the magic barrier surrounding the camp.

The magic array at the heart of the camp was activated and a blanket of darkness encompassed the camp. The two hundred fireballs appeared as though they had entered water, and at least half of them were extinguished before the darkness was destroyed.

In the instant when the darkness was destroyed, Saleen opened a Grade 4 scroll which contained the Stone Wall spell. The stone wall was not as tough as the crystal city, but it exemplified the sturdiness of Ground Magic. More than ten fireballs struck the wall before it was destroyed.

Saleen continued casting magic. Acid rain fell from the sky, and Saleen continued by opening three scrolls which caused the different patches of acid rain to merge into one huge cloud. The beasts who were closest to Saleen had white smoke coming from their bodies, with melted fur and bloody wounds.

The injured beasts pounced aggressively, but Saleen remained calm and continued opening the scrolls. Sika gripped her cudgel and lashed out in a sweeping motion. Sika managed to strike the forehead of one of the beasts. She was much faster than before. That beast had made its way over to the thorny wall to have its forehead crushed in midair.

Sika controlled her strength with great precision. The beast did not fly all the way back. It simply fell straight down and was pierced by one of the metal thorns on the ground. All of the power from Sika’s strike had gone into the beast’s head, and none of it had been wasted.

The magic beasts only seemed to be able to spit fireballs once, as they had stopped spitting fireballs. Instead, they took the opportunity to jump over the obstacles that Saleen had set before they spread out and moved at an astonishing speed.

Sika’s cudgel did not make any noise as it cut through the air. Instead, it produced phantom cudgels which the naked eye could not differentiate from the real one. Saleen had put all of his energy into the scrolls. More and more beasts were getting past the wall, so as Saleen was casting the magic, he hollered, “Nailisi!”

Nailisi’s body was trembling, and Saleen thought that she was scared out of her wits. Actually, Nailisi was simply excited because these magic beasts tasted much better than the tentacles back in the forest. The temperature of her blood started to rise, and a golden glow flashed in her green eyes.

Food! All of this was food! This was the taste of food in the demonic space!

A low pitched snore came from Nailisi’s throat. Then, Nailisi suddenly leapt up and over the camp’s wall and rushed out from her spot beside Saleen. Saleen grew a little distracted by this, and a beast seized that window where Saleen had not cast any magic and pounced towards him. Sika threw her boomerang, slitting the neck of that beast, and dark purple blood spurted out. Saleen was stunned, but another beast was already in front of him.

Nailisi was out of control. She was supposed to have stood beside Saleen to guard him against any beasts which managed to slip in, but now, she had vigorously charged into the herd of beasts. She clutched onto one of their necks, and twisted it forcefully. A cracking sound could be heard, and the beast’s head was pulled off by Nailisi, blood gushing out quickly. She opened her mouth in glee and sucked on the blood.

Nailisi felt as though she were in the demonic space chasing after a magic worm or demon. She tossed the head aside and pounced to her left. Her nails, which were coated in flower juice, sank into the neck of the beast on her left. That beast twisted its body in great pain, and its metal-like tail swung towards Nailisi’s face.

Nailisi’s mouth was still dripping with blood. She simply opened her mouth and bit the metal-like tail off of that beast. She applied more strength into the hand that was inside of its neck and turned the beast’s head around before plowing her other hand into the eye socket of the beast. In an insane move, she moved her hand about inside of the head and found the magic nucleus. Thereafter, she yanked the magic nucleus out and simply swallowed it whole while it was coated in all of that brain matter and blood.

The magic nucleus had been the size of an egg and tasted delicious. Nailisi could feel a warm current flowing in her chest, and at the same time, her strength increased. She quickly spun around and used her hands to clutch a beast that had pounced on her from behind. With a boom, that beast’s head was smashed and a blue magic nucleus flew out. Nailisi jumped up and caught the nucleus in her mouth, then started to chew it.

The rest of the magic beasts that surrounded Nailisi were shocked. Against Saleen’s magic, they had been able to put up a relentless fight. However, the aura that Nailisi gave off was too horrifying, and this aura was too similar to that of the powerful beasts which lived in the depths of the forest.

Saleen also felt Nailisi’s excitement, and his emotions were stirred as well. His mental power became more intense and focused, thus increasing his speed in opening the scrolls. This was the first time that Saleen had felt like this. It felt as though he were a swordsman who had entered a combative mode.

Mages were concerned with balance whereas swordsmen were concerned with explosive power. Every strike that a swordsman made contained the peak of an explosion of power so that they were able to have the same attack power as mages. Right now, Saleen possessed this explosive feeling. He placed down three swamp illusions nearly at the same time and resealed half of the area of the camp. Then, he cast the Ice Arrow spell with his bare hands.

It was extremely difficult for Grade 2 magic to harm Grade 4 magic beasts, but Saleen noticed that these beasts had slowed down, so it became easy for him to identify their weaknesses. Magic beasts never knew martial arts. They could only depend on speed and brute strength to win their battles. So when these beasts lost their advantage in speed, Saleen was finally able to put the Figaro formula to good use.

The ice arrows began penetrating the beasts. Once the arrows had entered the bodies, the freezing effects exploded in the bodies. The area in the vicinity of the penetrating wound would already be frozen. Sika only needed to launch her boomerang to easily execute those beasts.

Lex used Grade 4 or Grade 5 scrolls, and each of those scrolls were able to take out one beast. She did not want to be distracted, so she was oblivious to what was going on behind her. Hence, she instructed Holzer and Baimeng to assist Saleen. Holzer and Baimeng turned around and saw Nailisi fighting in the center of the herd of beasts, her entire body drenched in dark purple blood.

Holzer and Baimeng were astonished. They knew that if it had not been for the protection of the mages and the camp, both of them would have been torn to shreds the moment they entered the battle. The beasts around Nailisi had obviously grown too afraid to get any closer, but Nailisi regarded them as prey and was hunting them!

The leader of the herd of beasts did not escape when it saw that almost all of its subordinates had been massacred. Instead, it went around the area that was under Lex’s control and charged towards Saleen’s area.

Saleen had been paying attention to the movements of the leader all along. Saleen then connected to his puppet when he saw the leader appear. The leader pretended to charge towards Nailisi, and Nailisi tried to grab its trail. But in a sly move, the leader managed to dodge Nailisi’s attack and charged towards the camp.

The gorgeous red hair on the leader’s skin was raised, and its body projected a shadow as it flew through the air. In front of its body was a small puddle of water, and a black shadow jumped directly upwards. This black shadow was none other than the witcher spider that had been lying in ambush for a long time. When the witcher spider did not move, it looked totally lifeless and there was no way of detecting it. With that jump upwards, the spider hung from the leader’s abdomen using its legs and tore open its stiff belly before crawling inside.

The leader of the beasts slammed against the ground. By now, Nailisi had caught up and she leapt onto the leader’s back. Then, she inserted her hand into its brain and yanked out the magic nucleus before stuffing it into her mouth. When Holzer and Baimeng saw that scene, they felt goosebumps all over their bodies. Such a woman, her background must have been complicated!

When they saw that their leader had died, the over thirty remaining beasts stopped the offensive and started retreating while roaring into the sky.

“Master!” Nailisi bellowed in demonic language as she fell off of the back of the leader of the beasts. Saleen was shocked and he stood up, jumped out of the camp, and ran towards her. Sika followed behind anxiously, not knowing what had just happened.

Saleen came to Nailisi’s side. She was moaning weakly while lying in muddy water. Saleen squatted and asked anxiously, “Nailisi, what’s wrong?”

“Master, go and dig for magic nuclei. The more you get, the better…”
