Chapter 87: Your Body is Quite Honest
Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Your Body is Quite Honest
"I’ll get it! My treat today!"
He froze, his hand hovering in midair, a little stunned.
She was still the same person. Her name hadn’t changed, her face was the same, and even her mole was in the same old spot.
But her personality... it was like she was a completely different person.
She used to be so listless and withdrawn. Now she was practically electric, with a spring in her step.
The strangest part was that she wasn’t stingy anymore. She didn’t even bother mooching his meal tickets.
It was as if her soul had been replaced.
Li Hanchen silently picked up the two meals Shen Songyao had bought and followed her to a table by the window.
Shen Songyao flicked her chopsticks, picked up a piece of pork rib, and put it straight into his bowl.
"Honey, try this! It’s incredible!"
Li Hanchen nodded and put a piece of pork belly in her bowl as well.
"You eat too."
"Mhm!"
The two of them lowered their heads and dug into their food.
At the next table, a few female soldiers were chatting in hushed voices.
"Oh my, that really is Director Li’s wife!"
Li Hanchen’s brow furrowed slightly as he glanced over at the next table.
Every time Shen Songyao moved her chopsticks, she would place a morsel in his bowl, always with a sweet "Honey."
The tips of his ears grew warm, and his posture gradually stiffened.
Putting down his chopsticks, he subtly shifted his body.
Shen Songyao leaned closer and asked.
"Honey, are you full?"
"Mhm."
His Adam’s apple bobbed again, his gaze falling to the rim of his empty bowl.
"I’m full too. Let’s go home!"
She was already on her feet. She picked up her canvas bag with one hand and reached out with the other to gently take his forearm.
"Mhm."
He acknowledged with a grunt, reached for his military cap, and placed it on his head.
As soon as they entered the dormitory building, Li Hanchen turned and headed for the bedroom.
Shen Songyao followed right behind him, standing on her toes and clinging to his arm as she asked.
"Honey, are you going to wash up?"
Li Hanchen stopped in his tracks. He turned to look at her, his eyes filled with confusion.
’Wash up?’
’Why is she rushing me like this?’
’Wait a second...’
’Her nephew wants to be transferred to the county government office?’
The dizzy, feverish feeling in his head suddenly cleared.
"I’m not—"
he began, his voice a little hoarser than before.
"Well, I’m going to take a quick shower then. I was out in the sun at the village entrance for half the day, and I’m covered in a layer of dust."
She let go of his arm, took two steps toward the bathroom, then turned back with a smile.
"Is the water hot?"
’A shower?!’
Li Hanchen stood frozen, his pupils contracting slightly.
"Oh, alright, alright! Just go!"
He raised a hand to scratch the back of his neck, his voice a bit dry.
Shen Songyao rummaged through her pile of clothes, shaking her head as she looked them over.
’Too plain. No fun!’
She looked up and smiled.
"Honey, can I borrow a shirt?"
Without a second thought, Li Hanchen pulled open the wardrobe and took out the blue and gray striped shirt on top.
He didn’t even stop to think about what she wanted the shirt for.
As long as she called him "Honey," he really couldn’t bring himself to say no to anything—unless it was illegal or a breach of discipline.
Shen Songyao snatched the shirt, dashed into the bathroom, and immediately shut the door.
Li Hanchen remained where he was, bending over to continue searching for his passbooks.
In no time, he found one in a crack in the wall behind the nightstand and dug out another from a corner under the cabinet.
Two passbooks. They held his entire life savings.
After tucking the passbooks away securely, he finally looked up and surveyed the room he hadn’t seen in half a month.
The furniture hadn’t been moved, and the bedsheets and duvet cover were the same as always. But a faint, sweet fragrance lingered in the air.
He walked into the living room and only then discovered that it was full of new things!
Several cardboard boxes were stacked neatly in the corner, each printed with a different design.
The table that used to be in the middle of the room had been pushed over by the balcony, and a pile of hair accessories was spread out on top of it.
’Is this what Shen Songyao has been selling at her stall?’
A voice as sweet as honey came from behind him. Li Hanchen instantly spun around, then just as quickly spun back.
Shen Songyao was leaning against the bathroom doorframe, wearing nothing but one of his white dress shirts.
The collar was askew, revealing one of her shoulders, and her hair was still dripping wet.
She blinked, stunned by the sight of the man frozen like a wooden statue.
"What’s wrong? Don’t I look good?"
After speaking, she looked down at herself.
The original owner of this body had good features: translucent skin, and a tall, leggy figure.
She used to be painfully thin, but after half a month of being well-cared-for by her, she had filled out and become soft and plump.
Her long legs were especially dazzlingly white.
’She might be slim, but she’s not lacking where it counts!’
Shen Songyao’s heart sank.
’It can’t be, can it?’
’Is he really... not working?’
’This is something I have to take seriously!’
She immediately dropped her seductive pose and lunged toward him.
Li Hanchen’s face was beet red. Hearing her approach, he closed his eyes and growled.
"Yaoyao! Your nephew’s situation... I really can’t do anything about it!"
The first thing Shen Songyao did upon getting close was to glance down at his pants.
She opened her arms, about to throw herself onto him.
"Your mouth says no, but your body is pretty honest!"
’Let’s take care of business first, and talk later!’
But Li Hanchen didn’t even open his eyes, simply holding a hand firmly against her chest to stop her.
"Don’t mess around!"
Before the words were even out of his mouth, he stepped past her and bolted out the door.
Shen Songyao: "..."
’Hello?’
’I changed my clothes just to listen to you lecture me?’
She locked the door from the inside, changed back into her loose cotton pants, sat down on a small stool, and began to take inventory of her unsold stock for the day.
"Fine. Men just get in the way of making money. They’re nothing but trouble."
"Time to get to work! Once the money starts rolling in, the handsome guys will line up on their own!"
Li Hanchen scrambled into his car and sat there in a daze for a long while before the chaotic feeling in his chest slowly subsided.
’Today was utterly humiliating.’
But despite the humiliation, he secretly felt a sense of relief.
After the incident, there was a time when he truly thought he was completely finished.
’But today...’
He touched his chest, his Adam’s apple bobbing. He knew perfectly well what was going on.
’I’m fine, and all my parts are in working order.’
’What a relief.’
’And really embarrassing, too.’
’My own wife was standing right in front of me, and I was too chicken to even touch her!’
Li Hanchen stayed away until it was completely dark before he dared to come back.
He habitually took out his key and tried to turn it for a while, but the door wouldn’t budge. Only then did he suddenly remember that there was someone else in the apartment now.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK...
Shen Songyao was completely focused on her work, having tuned everything else out. She didn’t hear a thing.
Li Hanchen, feeling guilty himself, didn’t dare to knock too hard. After trying on and off for over ten minutes, the door still hadn’t opened.
He figured he must have really made her angry this time, and she was ignoring him on purpose.
But getting Shen Songyao’s nephew into the government office?
He really couldn’t do it.
He turned and went back downstairs, scurrying away faster than a rabbit.
When Shen Songyao finished her work, she glanced at the clock. It was ten o’clock.
She stretched, yawned, and got ready to wash up and go to bed.
Just as she wet her towel, she remembered: Li Hanchen was back today!
But when she opened the door, the hallway was empty. Not a soul in sight.
"Oh, for crying out loud, now he’s playing the disappearing act?"
Shen Songyao closed the door and muttered.
"Staying out all night? Unacceptable!"
The next morning, she rubbed her eyes.
"I’m exhausted... so exhausted..."
After washing her face and brushing her teeth, she slipped on her slippers, ready to go out and buy soy milk and fried dough sticks.
The moment she opened the door, she saw breakfast hanging on the doorknob.
She reached out and touched it. It was still warm.
"Who did this? Who hung breakfast on my door?"
No one answered.
She stood on her toes to take it down, muttering under her breath.
"Don’t tell me someone’s trying to poison me by putting something in the filling?"
The words had barely left her mouth when Li Hanchen peeked out, then forced himself to walk over and say...
"The breakfast... I bought it."
The moment he appeared, Shen Songyao froze.
She quickly tilted her head back and swallowed down the large bite of the bun before asking.
"Huh? You bought it?"
Li Hanchen stood there dumbly, nodding, and blurted out a question.
