Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Unable to Withstand

When Li Hanchen came in to find some clothes, he immediately saw her sprawled in the middle of the bed, watching him with shimmering eyes.

He stopped in his tracks and stiffly backed out of the room.

Five minutes later, he returned.

Shen Songyao immediately scooted over, patting the empty space beside her.

"Come on!"

Li Hanchen remained frozen in the doorway, his jaw clenched tight. His eyes screamed conflict.

Conflict.

Shen Songyao mentally rolled her eyes.

’Fine. I’m done. Let the world burn!’

’Why does he always freeze up at the crucial moment?’

Fearing her prize might slip through her fingers, she quickly pressed her advantage.

"Honey, I’m really fine! We went to the hospital together today, and you saw my medical records with your own eyes!"

Li Hanchen nodded.

"Song Yao."

He said her name in a low voice.

"Have you thought this through?"

Shen Songyao answered instantly.

"I’ve thought it through completely! A beautiful night like this is priceless, isn’t it?"

With her putting it like that, what else could Li Hanchen do?

CLICK. The light went out, plunging the room into darkness.

They had already laid the groundwork over the past couple of days, so the initial awkwardness between them was long gone.

Of course, that was mainly because Li Hanchen had already explored every inch of her.

And Shen Songyao?

Li Hanchen was always so reserved; she had only seen the tip of the iceberg.

Today was no different.

Shen Songyao only realized what was happening when her body suddenly tensed.

’Ooh, this is a little intense!’

"Honey..."

She whimpered.

With his gentle coaxing, a rush of heat went to Shen Songyao’s head, and she stopped caring about things like what position they were in.

When they were finally pressed against each other, she let out a long sigh, her heart fluttering hotly.

Li Hanchen wasn’t unaffected, either. His breathing grew ragged, and sweat beaded on his forehead.

Afterward, he silently changed the bedsheets.

He then wrung out a washcloth, meticulously wiped her clean, and gently pulled her into his arms.

Snuggled together, they quickly fell into a deep sleep.

It started raining in the middle of the night, raindrops gently tapping on the window.

Li Hanchen groggily opened his eyes. The warm bundle in his arms was still there, and he subconsciously hugged her tighter.

"It’s raining!"

She shot up, but her legs felt weak and gave out, causing her to pitch forward.

Thankfully, a pair of strong hands caught her shoulders to steady her.

"You’re awake?"

"Uh-huh! Is it raining outside?"

Her eyes sparkled as she snuggled into Li Hanchen’s arms.

Li Hanchen tightened his arm around her.

"Yeah, it started in the middle of the night. I figured you wouldn’t be able to set up your stall today, so I didn’t wake you."

The moment he finished speaking, he gently lifted her and set her down on the edge of the bed.

"I’ll open the curtains."

Shen Songyao quickly tore her gaze away from his wrist, her toes curling.

’Tsk, what they say online is true...’

’That strength in his hands, the line of his wrists... they’re the real deal.’

As he pulled back the curtains, daylight flooded the room. She quickly looked down, pretending to straighten the collar of her pajamas.

"Want to brush your teeth?"

"I’ll go heat up breakfast first," Li Hanchen said as he hooked the curtain tie-back and turned back to her.

"Heat up breakfast? What time is it?"

"A little after nine!"

"Oh my, that late?"

"It’s raining. I figured you wouldn’t be in a hurry to get up, so I decided to let you sleep in."

She had been feeling a bit excited, but hearing this, she instantly deflated.

"You’re right. In this lousy weather, I can’t set up the stall anyway."

She tilted her head to look at him as he bent down to slip her slippers onto her feet.

"What about you? Are you taking the day off too?"

"I didn’t take the day off. I’d already arranged my work, so I just swung by to check on you. And as it happens, you were just waking up."

"Then you should get back to it! I’ll take care of breakfast!"

"No rush. Business is slow when it rains."

After putting her slippers on, he squatted down to look her in the eye.

"Feeling a little better now?"

Shen Songyao’s eyes darted as a mischievous idea began to form in her mind.

But before she could finish scheming, Li Hanchen stood up and scooped her right into his arms.

"Let’s go, I’ll carry you over."

She couldn’t hold back a wide grin.

"Honey, you’re so thoughtful!"

"Mm."

He responded with a deep hum.

She didn’t stay idle. With her face pressed against his chest, her hands started to wander, gently rubbing his stomach a couple of times.

"Song Yao..."

His voice was dangerously hoarse.

She immediately pulled her hand back, her eyes lowered, not daring to look up.

’He’d already pinned me down and taught me a lesson just yesterday. How could I dare act up now?’

’It’s just that my hands get itchy sometimes. I can’t help but test the waters.’

Li Hanchen carried her all the way to the bathroom door, then turned to go to the kitchen to heat up the food.

By the time Shen Songyao came out after washing her face, a bowl of warm porridge and some side dishes were already on the table.

Her stomach rumbled. She was really hungry.

"Eat up while it’s hot!"

Seeing that she was seated, Li Hanchen casually grabbed the umbrella by the door.

"I’ll bring back takeout for lunch. Don’t go running around outside, you hear?"

Shen Songyao, who was nibbling on a steamed bun, glanced up at him and nodded gently.

He was already at the door when he turned, came back, and planted a kiss on her forehead.

He ruffled her hair as he spoke.

"If you’re still sleepy after you eat, just go back to bed for a nap. Can’t finish your work? Don’t worry. I’ll take care of business when I get back tonight!"

Shen Songyao giggled and nodded.

"Alright, Honey, I’ll be waiting for you at home!"

Li Hanchen’s gaze darkened for a moment. He opened his umbrella and left.

She finished her meal in a few quick bites, washed the containers, and immediately rolled up her sleeves to get to work.

Outside, a steady drizzle fell, PITTER-PATTER, PITTER-PATTER, all day long.

She stayed cooped up inside, busy all day, and managed to create two new jewelry designs.

After a day of not setting up her stall, all the small boxes and drawers at home were stuffed with inventory.

She took them out to count, and the more she looked, the happier she became.

’There’s nothing more reassuring than a full inventory!’

Speaking of being well-stocked...

During dinner, Shen Songyao couldn’t help but sneak glances at Li Hanchen as she picked at her rice.

’This guy...’

’...he must be pretty well-stocked, too, right?’

And she was right.

When she came out of the bathroom, Li Hanchen followed her into the room and immediately switched off the light.

Shen Songyao: "..."

He hadn’t even batted an eye at her little probes that afternoon; she’d thought he was a block of wood.

’So it wasn’t that he didn’t react, he just has to wait until dark to boot up!’

’And why does he always like to approach from behind?’

She had just gotten a firm footing, and he was already pressed up against her.

’As a total novice, I can barely handle him.’

’Although...’

With a single shift, the dynamic would change, and he’d switch to a frontal assault.

He turned and went to the walk-in closet to get his pajamas. She stood where she was for three seconds, catching her breath, before hanging her bath towel back on the rack.

「The next day.」

The autumn rain had washed the streets clean, and a chill rode on the wind.

The moment Shen Songyao opened her eyes, she shivered.

Luckily, she had snagged a couple of wool sweaters the last time she went shopping, and they would be perfect for today.

She had just thrown back the covers, about to get out of bed to find some clothes, when the door clicked open.

Li Hanchen strode in and said,

"The temperature plummeted today, so you’ll need to wear something thicker. You can wear one of my shirts for now. After breakfast, we’ll go out and buy you a couple of new outfits."

A warm feeling spread through Shen Songyao’s chest.

"Thanks, Honey, but I already bought some warm clothes the last time you took me shopping!"

Li Hanchen: "..."

He knew she wasn’t complaining in the slightest, but hearing her words...

’Tsk, why did that make him feel vaguely guilty?’

’It must be because I haven’t been attentive enough. Otherwise, such a simple comment wouldn’t have made me freeze for a second.’

He placed the shirt on the nightstand and pulled the window screen shut.

"It’ll probably get even colder in the next couple of days. We should still pick out a couple of heavier things."

Director Li silently set himself a new "compensation" KPI.
