"Yes, Family Head."

Allen bowed and took his leave with the others.

An Mingji stood drenched in the morning light on the corridor, facing the blinding glow, his eyes slowly closing.

No one should think of interfering with his time alone with Jin.

He would not allow it!

...

When Yu Shuo was brought in, he had shed the disarray of last night.

Neatly dressed, he sat in the living room, clearly wearing the outfit from his visit to the Chen Palace the night before.

His face was pale, his expression dazed, eyes dimly lit as if shutting out everyone else, his whole demeanor listless.

According to Allen, when they found him at the Yu Family’s place, he was under tight surveillance, with several groups guarding around the Yu family’s residence.

An Mingji caressed the dragon pattern ring on his finger, his gaze bland as he looked at Yu Shuo sitting opposite him.

To be separated from one’s spouse and child is a pain one cannot fathom without experiencing it.

However, just the thought of Jin leaving him was unbearable for An Mingji.

If such a thing truly happened, he would go mad, he would rage, he would do unimaginable things.

Thinking in terms of empathy, he did understand Yu Shuo a bit.

An Mingji twirled the dragon pattern ring on his finger: "Yu Shuo, shall we talk?"

His deep and pleasant voice slowly resonated in the living room.

Yu Shuo lowered his head, showing no sign of having heard his words.

Seeing this, Allen strode forward, forcibly lifting his chin with a rude and ungentle motion.

Yu Shuo’s pupils shifted slightly, the light gathered in his eyes, finally noticing An Mingji opposite him.

Seeing it was him, Yu Shuo’s already pale face turned even whiter, his emotions in turmoil, the sadness and pain in his eyes evident.

"What to talk about?" His voice was hoarse, brimming with endless desolation.

An Mingji’s lips curved slightly, his voice flat and indifferent: "Let’s talk about the future of the Yu Family, the advantages and disadvantages of your current position."

Yu Shuo shook off Allen’s hand from his chin, collapsing bonelessly against the back of the sofa, seemingly uninterested in An Mingji’s topic.

An Mingji crossed his long legs, relaxed and lazy, leaning against the back of the sofa, resting his chin on one hand, beckoning to Linda in the distance.

Linda came over, holding a document with both hands, and placed it in front of An Mingji.

An Mingji took the document, flipped to a certain page deftly, and handed it to Yu Shuo.

"Take a look. If the cabinet hadn’t reached a one-year agreement with the Royal Family last night, the Yu Family might still have stayed out of this. Even if your identity was exposed, there could have been a way for you to retreat cleanly. But now, you and the Yu Family are deeply mired.

For the Yu Family to survive this reshuffling, you only have one way forward: to securely take that position. Remember, Han Yong’an still has a descendant, kept hidden, though only a few years old, but that child is indeed his blood.

The Cabinet doesn’t have only you as a bargaining chip. Han Yong’an has angered the Cabinet immensely. They only wish to overthrow him and appoint a new ruler. It could be anyone, as long as they’re a royal bloodline, and you are not their only choice.

If you’re cast aside, the Yu Family will have no place left in Beijing and will soon be divided among various forces."

Yu Shuo quickly glanced over the document in his hand; his eyes widened as he read.

It detailed the entanglements of many forces in Beijing, including leverage against the prominent families.

The major families, standing tall in Beijing for years with extensive networks and numerous descendants—how clean could they be?

The documentation was thorough, even covering the grudges between Prince Rong and Han Yong’an. Over the years, only Han Yong’an and Prince Rong remained from the main royal line.

The enmity between these cousins began years ago over a wife-stealing hatred.

Han Yong’an had taken Prince Rong’s wife and even tormented her to death.

For years, Prince Rong and the little prince Han Xiyuan have endured humiliation.

If they possessed the next heir’s totem, Han Yong’an would have been replaced long ago.

They are royal members, the most qualified to sit in that position, but unfortunately, they lacked the innate qualifications.

Last night, although the Qin Family reported at the Chen Palace, leading the Royal Guards to bring the Yu Family into the Chen Palace, Prince Rong was behind it.

When Wanqi Jingyi called Gu Jin about this, An Mingji sensed something was wrong. No matter how influential the Qin Family was, they couldn’t have learned of Yu Shuo’s identity so quickly.

The Yin Family had an incident last night, and Han Xiyuan was present. Thinking of Prince Rong’s grudge with Han Yong’an, An Mingji quickly understood.

He sent people to investigate overnight, and the results were as he suspected.

Then he arranged this information to Yu Shuo’s advantage.

An Mingji lowered his eyes, glimpsing Yu Shuo’s trembling hands holding the information, his lips slightly raised: "Think carefully about your next choice. Only by standing taller can you see further, overlooking those who once looked down upon you. No one will hinder what you wish to do."

Indeed, only by standing high, gaining real power, could he personally avenge his enemies.

Han Yixuan is dead.

But the real killer wasn’t her; it was Han Yong’an.

The arrogant face of that man from last night was still etched deep in his mind.

He looked at Yu Shuo like an ant, and that superior feeling was truly infuriating, making one want to crush him underfoot.

Yu Shuo closed the file firmly, lifting his head to reveal bloodshot eyes, staring intently at An Mingji.

"An Shao, why are you helping me?"

The information was incredibly crucial for him; with strategic use, he could gain full control over the Cabinet’s decisions.

He wouldn’t be a puppet; his every word would be valued by the Cabinet, granting him real power.

"You are Jin’s apprentice; I don’t want her too distracted by you."

In saying this, An Mingji was forthright.

This statement also reflected his true thoughts.

Seeing Yu Shuo’s resolve, An Mingji stood up, buttoning the two top buttons of his shirt: "Take a good look at this information and dispose of it afterward. My position is unsuited to meddle in your affairs; today, I will take Jin away from here..."

...

Gu Jin was startled awake from her sleep.

She felt her body shaking violently, no place to anchor herself, a strong sense of insecurity.

As she frantically reached to grab something next to her, a warm body embraced her tightly, holding her close.

Though her body soon stabilized, Gu Jin was now wide awake.

She opened her eyes to find An Mingji’s handsome features magnified before her.

"Xiao An, what’s happening?"

Seeing him, Gu Jin’s tense body unconsciously relaxed.

An Mingji wrapped his arms around her, sitting up from the bed, as the blanket slipped onto the bed.
