Chiang Qing still had bandages wrapped around her head, an oxygen mask over her mouth, her eyes open, but she was motionless, staring at the ceiling.

"No, she can’t," Director Chen said. "She’s awake, but the doctors say there may be problems. Leaving aside her movement capabilities, since the bullet hit her head, her memory might be blocked, she might even become a vegetable, depending on her recovery."

"You’re not telling me that if she loses her memory and becomes a vegetable, she can’t be sentenced?" Qi Taiguo frowned.

"That’s not up to me; it’s for the judge to decide. But if she indeed becomes entirely mentally disabled, I reckon..." Director Chen hesitated. Both mental patients and vegetables aren’t subject to criminal law. He continued, "Since she woke up, she hasn’t said a single word, just stared at the ceiling, like a living corpse... Ahem. We can’t even take a statement right now."

Qi Taiguo remained silent, gazing at the person inside.

No matter whether she turns into a vegetable, she can’t escape the consequences she should bear.
