Zhan Jing walked in from outside, unhurried, and unsurprisingly caught the rich smell of breakfast.

"My son really is amazing."

"He should learn more, otherwise how’s he going to take care of Ni Zi."

Even though Zhan Jing was the mother-in-law, she was very different from most mothers-in-law who always sided with their sons.

In her view, never mind that Ni Zi was pregnant now, even if she weren’t, there was no such thing as all the housework being the woman’s job.

Zhao Xuran had long developed immunity to his mom’s constant nagging about how he must work hard and do more housework every time she saw him.

Zhan Jing found a place to sit down, looked up, and saw the three Gong siblings standing together, with a vibe that really couldn’t be called good.

Zhan Jing was genuinely surprised. How did things end up like this? How had the siblings gotten upset with each other, what on earth had happened?

"Hey, Rui Wen, how come you’ve got a cut on your face?" Zhan Jing noticed the wound on Gong Ruwen’s face and was really quite shocked.

A wound on Gong Ruwen’s face—what was going on? Gong Ruini was also pretty surprised.

Wait a second, don’t tell her they actually got into a fight yesterday. Oh my God. Gong Ruini was so scared she shot upright.

"What’s wrong?" Zhan Jing was startled by the way Gong Ruini had suddenly moved. "Take it easy, will you."

She was about to be a mother, so how could she still be moving around so roughly? Didn’t she know how dangerous that was?

"I’m fine." Gong Ruwen dodged away from Gong Ruini’s hand when she tried to carefully inspect his wound.

Seeing the commotion out in the dining room from the kitchen, Zhao Xuran snorted coldly. Why was everyone fussing over that brat Gong Ruwen, and no one cared about him?

For the record, someone’s fists were really vicious. Hmph, he absolutely had to train harder, or he’d really end up getting flattened by that punk Gong Ruwen.

Since Gong Ruwen wouldn’t let her look, of course Gong Ruini had to go into the kitchen and check on her own man’s condition.

When he saw his little sister heading straight for Zhao Xuran, Gong Ruwen actually felt a bit of regret. If he’d known his sister would go worry over Zhao Xuran, he’d have swallowed his pride and let her look earlier.

Zhao Xuran might have been sulking a moment ago over how nobody was bothering to care about him, but once Gong Ruini entered the kitchen and grabbed his head to examine him over and over, he suddenly felt all kinds of awkward.

"Hey, what are you dodging for?" Gong Ruini snapped. "So you really did get into a fight yesterday."

Got into a fight? Zhan Jing had been asking purely out of curiosity—after all, it was just a wound, nothing conclusive.

But she hadn’t expected to actually hear that word. "A fight?"

"Who did you fight with?" Zhan Jing was dumbfounded.

"Didn’t they say the environment here is nice and the public security’s good? Don’t tell me you ran into some thugs." Oh God, if there were that many thugs around here that they could even get into a fight with Zhao Xuran and the others...

Zhan Jing didn’t dare imagine what would have happened if Ni Zi had been stopped by them. Even if Zhao Xuran and Ni Zi were together, if they ran into a whole group of people, could Zhao Xuran really handle it on his own?

Ran into thugs? What Zhan Jing said left Gong Tao and his wife, who came in a few steps later, completely stunned.

"How could there be thugs?"

"How could something like that happen?"

Gong Ruini was helpless. She’d only asked if they’d gotten into a fight, and somehow Zhan Jing’s imagination had blown it up this far. Rumors really did start just like this; Gong Ruini was finally getting a taste of it.

"I think I might’ve made this worse."

Zhao Xuran was also pretty helpless, but seeing his wife looking so guilty, he reached out and pulled her into his arms. "This has nothing to do with Ni Zi."

"If only we’d been more careful yesterday." Zhao Xuran didn’t regret throwing punches. What he meant was, if that brat Gong Ruwen hadn’t taken the first swing, would he have ended up fighting?

"Mom, there were no thugs," Gong Ruwen said helplessly. "The injuries on me and Xuran—that’s the result of us fighting with each other yesterday."

They’d have to come clean sooner or later, so there was no point in hiding it.

What? No way. Gong Tao and his wife, as well as Zhao Gang and his wife, were all stunned. How had it come to blows between them? What was going on?

If Gong Ruwen had taken a swing at Zhao Xuran right when he first arrived in the United States, no one would have found it strange.

But why wait a few days before finally erupting? What was this about? They honestly couldn’t figure it out.

What worried Gong Tao and his wife even more was that from their son’s tone, it sounded like he’d been the one to throw the first punch yesterday. What on earth had happened?

No matter how angry they’d been before about their daughter getting pregnant before marriage, they’d never considered taking a swing at Zhao Xuran.

This wasn’t something they could pin on Zhao Xuran, so how had their son lost control at a time like this?

"I only found out yesterday that Ni Zi and the others are already registered and married," Gong Ruwen said furiously.

Oh, so that was it? Gong Tao and his wife were shocked. They’d thought maybe Zhao Xuran had done something that made Gong Ruwen furious after finding out, and that’s why he’d hit him.

They hadn’t expected it to be over this. "And what’s wrong with that?"

Zhao Gang and his wife had been worried at first as well. Gong Ruwen was a kid they’d practically watched grow up—ever since he was little he’d been methodical and reasonable about everything.

How could he suddenly lay hands on their son? Could it be that...?

They’d been full of worries, only to end up hearing this piece of news. Zhao Gang and his wife were overjoyed. If Gong Ruwen weren’t so angry, and if they weren’t afraid of provoking their in-laws, they’d have been grinning from ear to ear instead of keeping their happiness quietly to themselves.

Because as much as they were happy, this matter really was a bit excessive. No matter how calm Gong Tao sounded when he asked if there was a problem...

After being friends with Gong Tao for so many years, Zhao Gang understood exactly what he was thinking and why he was saying that. Wasn’t he just worried that Zhao Gang and his wife would get angry?

"How is there not a problem?" Gong Ruwen wasn’t having it. Even though he’d caught his dad’s look, he was mad, and thankfully his dad was on his side.

"What problem?" Gong Tao’s reaction was exactly what Zhao Gang had guessed. He really was furious, and fortunately his eldest son understood him; if it had been Gong Ruzhi, Gong Tao really wouldn’t dare rely on him.

"Did he propose to Ni Zi?"

"This is way too insincere."

Gong Ruwen was full of disdain. "I heard Guang Ran say before that when you propose to a girl, you have to give her a huge surprise."

"But look at Ni Zi now." Gong Ruwen was fighting for something on Ni Zi’s behalf; he really wasn’t just putting on airs.

Sometimes, things that come too easily are things a man won’t necessarily cherish.

Even if he trusted Zhao Xuran’s character, there was no way for Gong Ruwen to guarantee what would happen down the long road of life—no one knew how people might change.

So while Zhao Xuran still loved Ni Zi, shouldn’t they leave her with more happy memories?

"Exactly." Gong Ruzhi fully supported his big brother’s thinking on this.

"You need flowers, and a big diamond ring."

"And a candlelight dinner."

"It’d be even better if someone was playing the violin nearby."

"Uh, and I think you’re supposed to book out the entire restaurant," Gong Ruzhi rattled off, listing all the things you were supposed to prepare for a proposal.

No way. Standing there in the kitchen, Gong Ruini was seriously spooked. A diamond ring, a candlelight dinner—she admitted the idea was pretty nice.

But was it really necessary to book the whole restaurant? That was what you did when you had too much money and nowhere to spend it.

"Xiao Zhi really has been led astray by Guang Ran." Never mind how confidently Gong Ruzhi was talking; Gong Ruini was sure that he’d never actually researched this stuff. As for how he knew so much, it had to be because Zhao Guangran had taught him.

Since it was Zhao Guangran’s influence, there was no need to blame their own kid.

Watching Gong Ruini rush to explain on Gong Ruzhi’s behalf, Zhao Xuran felt a wave of exasperation. Was he really that unreasonable?

"I know, but I really need to thank them." Zhao Xuran didn’t care about all the things Gong Ruzhi had mentioned; he only cared whether Gong Ruini was moved.

As long as his wife was moved by something, no matter what it was, Zhao Xuran was determined to make it happen.
