Atticus’s Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground

Chapter 1698 Volcanos

Homon. Juzo. Elion. Riner. Raze.

These were the names of the Willguard, Spirit, Nature, Abyss, and finally Redflame gods. Each of them had been tasked by their respective powers with fulfilling a singular objective; assassinating the criminal, Atticus Ravenstein.

For the past two decades, they had roamed the First Crown as hunters, growing stronger while carving their legends into the minds of its people.

The Executioners… there was not a soul within the First Crown who didn’t know the hunter group. And for years, each of them had waited for their target, biding their time, building their power, preparing for the day they would finally meet the accused, Atticus Ravenstein.

They were the Executioners.

And after so long, they had finally found their target. A mere peak level one hunter… trash. With their level three power, someone of such strength should have been nothing more than an ant before them.

They had rushed into the volcanic region for his head. Yet mere seconds into the battle, that same ant had split one of them into two halves while withstanding a combined assault from the rest without suffering even a single scratch.

Flashes of light crackled across the heavens, followed by deafening booms of thunder. Crimson and golden radiance flooded the skies, and even several moments later, the air still trembled from the sheer force of the collision.

Yet the Executioners barely noticed any of it. Their slowly widening eyes remained locked onto Atticus, who hovered silently in the distance.

What… what had just happened?

“Hey… correct me if I’m wrong, but the report said this brat was peak level one, right?” the Abyss hunter asked with open disbelief. “Peak level one. Not some ancient monster pretending to be one?”

“…that’s what it says on his crown,” the Nature god replied with a deep frown. “…unless the damn thing is lying to us.”

“That’s impossible.”

“Then explain why he’s still standing there without a scratch!”

They were each low level threes. The gap between those ranks should have been insurmountable. Yet the scene unfolding before them completely contradicted that logic.

The Abyss god’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“…don’t tell me the child’s will is comparable to the Origins?”

A faint darkness passed through their expressions instantly. The Origins was the title given to the two Origin Wills of the Crown; Crown Will and Primal Will.

It was common knowledge that only those who possessed such wills could possibly bridge the monstrous gap between levels. Simply being capable of clashing against them despite the difference in rank already hinted at the absurd quality of Atticus’ will.

“…then how do we proceed?” the Nature god asked gravely. “This clearly isn’t going the way we expected.”

The Abyss god glanced toward the others.

“…should we retreat?”

“No!”

“Absolutely not!”

The heads of the Willguard and Spirit gods snapped toward him almost instantly.

“My king entrusted this task to me…” the Spirit god said coldly. “I refuse to return in failure because some child swings a sharp sword.”

“He’s right,” the Willguard added with a dark scowl. “The brat has only just ascended and he’s already this troublesome. If we let him grow stronger, we’ll regret it later.”

The Abyss god frowned deeply.

“…and how exactly do you suggest we kill him? Every time we get close, he tries to split someone in half.”

Their gazes instinctively shifted toward the weapon in Atticus’ grasp, caution flashing across each of their faces. There was no doubting that weapon was the primary reason for their current losses.

A weapon capable of cutting through higher wills…

“…then stop getting hit.”

The Abyss god’s face twitched slightly.

“…ah yes. Brilliant strategy.”

“If the weapon doesn’t touch us, it can’t affect us,” the Willguard god continued coldly, completely ignoring him.

“As for his will, assume it possesses the same potency as the Origins. It’s still lower level, which means it has limits. At best, it should only resist our wills for a short time. We’re faster. We’re stronger. So we overwhelm him from all sides. Understood?”

The others immediately gave solemn nods.

BOOM!

Their wills erupted from their bodies in unison, spiraling around them like a living storm. In an instant, the entire volcanic region was swallowed beneath a suffocating pressure.

Yet Atticus faced all of it with unwavering indifference. His purple cloak burned even brighter around him, as though openly provoking them to come.

The Willguard god’s eyes turned icy.

“We attack together.”

They were just about to move when a violent rumble suddenly tore through the entire volcanic region.

ROAR!

The roar exploded across the land, sending violent tremors through the region. Every gaze snapped toward the largest volcano at the center of the battlefield, where massive plumes of smoke had begun pouring endlessly into the skies.

The next instant, it erupted.

A towering pillar of scalding flames pierced through the heavens while the surrounding volcanoes erupted one after another, filling the skies with chaotic clouds of fire and ash.

Atticus’ eyes narrowed instantly. He could feel an immense pressure abruptly leaking out from within the volcano.

‘Something’s coming.’

ROAR!

Another violent boom shook the region. Massive fissures tore across the ground, splitting the land apart as streams of lava burst through the cracks and surged across the battlefield.

Then, a colossal figure burst from the molten earth, blasting into the skies. Behind it followed a relentless swarm of Reverents, each one spiraling through the heavens in chaotic circles.

Atticus’ brows furrowed slightly.

The colossal creature possessed massive wings whose every flap unleashed violent shockwaves powerful enough to flatten the surrounding forests. Its enormous draconic body was covered in crimson scales, while countless bone-like spikes protruded from its back like jagged spears. A massive horn extended from its skull, giving it an even more savage appearance.

Hovering high above the battlefield, its predatory crimson eyes slowly swept across the region before settling on Atticus and the Executioners. Then—

ROARRRRRR!!!

A terrifying pressure exploded from its maw, crashing across the land like an unstoppable wave. Atticus shrugged off the force with ease, but his detached gaze remained fixed on the creature. From its sheer size alone, coupled with the overwhelming aura pouring from its body—

‘At least level three.’

Ahead of him, the expressions of the Executioners darkened considerably. With such a variable suddenly entering the battlefield, the outcome of this fight had instantly become uncertain.

Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted.

Atticus’ eyes narrowed slightly.

Above, the Reverent King had completely ignored everything else and locked onto him.

‘Hm?’

Its jaws suddenly snapped open. Wisps of smoke curled from its mouth before a torrent of scalding flames erupted toward him with overwhelming speed.

Atticus’ gaze sharpened instantly. That fire… it wasn’t ordinary flames, but fire infused with the will of the Reverent itself.

Multiple energies surged through Atticus simultaneously as a dome of will instantly formed around him.

The flames engulfed him the next moment before surging across the battlefield like a burning ocean.

Within the scorching inferno, Atticus’ mind raced.

‘It’s attracted to my will.’

Reverents possessed a primal instinct to devour will. Naturally, a stronger True Will would attract them far more than lesser wills. Right now, the Reverent King’s attention was completely locked onto him.

The Executioners alone were already troublesome enough. Fighting a level three Reverent whose will was just as dense as his at the same time was an entirely different matter. Even now, Atticus could feel the flames gradually eroding his dome of will.

Atticus’ gaze turned cold.

‘I have to kill the gods first.’

Suddenly, he sensed a faint ripple behind him.

Atticus twisted instantly, barely evading a spear of darkness that ripped past his face. His eyes landed on the Abyss god, whose pupils had widened to their limits.

“How the hell did you see me?!”

But Atticus gave no reply.

Multiple energies converged around him as he shot forward, immediately erasing the distance between them. His katana flashed forward in an absolute thrust.
