Atticus’s Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground

Chapter 1688 Quests

Chapter 1688  Quests

“Span.”

The air before him rippled, and a furry creature materialized in their midst. The Eternal Span’s large eyes swept over the group with a distinctly unamused look before shifting toward the battlefield. A faint glint passed through his gaze, not shock, but something closer to recognition, as though he had seen it before, and seeing it up close carried its own weight.

At last, his attention returned to Atticus, his expression flattening once more.

“Why have you summoned me, child?”

“I want information.”

“Of course.” The Span gave a small nod. “Ask your questions, and quickly. My time is valuable.”

“First, where are we?”

“This is the outer reaches of the First Crown. The starting stage for any god ascending into the Crown.”

“First Crown… does that mean there are more Crowns?”

“…Limit your questions to the First Crown. The Crown rules forbid otherwise.”

Atticus frowned, but gave a small nod.

“Tell me everything about the beasts that just attacked us.”

The Span inclined his head, as though he had been expecting the question.

“These beasts are called Reverent. Their origins are unknown—only that they appeared without warning and have since become a major threat within the Crown. They occupy most regions of this land and act as an ever-present antagonistic force.”

“Their will… is known as Primal Will. Its origin is also unknown, but it is undoubtedly a higher form of will—capable of standing against Crown Will.”

Atticus’ brow furrowed slightly.

“…Crown Will?”

“Mhm. It is the will borne by the descendants of the Crown. It represents the will of the Crown itself. I believe you’ve already encountered it.” The Eternal Span gestured toward Gladious, who remained trapped within the scarlet dome.

“He would be considered one of the lesser ones. His purity is low.”

Atticus’ expression remained unchanged, though his thoughts shifted. Was this why he hadn’t been able to take control of Gladious’ will? Even in a diluted state, it was still the will of the Crown… of a Star. Still, this was the first time he was hearing that a Star possessed a will of its own.

Pushing the thought aside for now, Atticus moved on.

“If this is the First Crown… then how do we ascend?”

The Eternal Span gave a small nod, as though he had been waiting for that.

The others, who had been listening in silence, leaned in slightly, not wanting to miss a word.

“…Upon entering any Crown, you’re given quests that must be fulfilled before you can ascend. They’re usually split into two, the main quest and the side quest. The main one is harder and meant for the head hunter, which in this case is you. You’ll still need to complete the side quest, but your subordinates, the minor hunters, have to complete it as well. That said, both quests are usually the same for every god within the Crown.”

“…What are they?”

“Call out your quests to view them.”

Atticus, along with everyone else, did just that. A moment later, a panel formed before him.

Welcome to the First Crown.

The Absolute Crown acknowledges your entry.

These are your requirements for ascension:

Main Objective — Influence

All who seek the Crown must first be known.

Establish your figure within the First Crown. Let your name spread, your will be felt, and your existence acknowledged.

Progress toward this objective is measured below.

Reach one hundred percent to fulfill the requirement.

Influence: 2%

Side Objective — Crown Fragment

Slay one Head Hunter and claim their Crown Fragment.

This fragment will serve as your key to ascend.

The Absolute Crown observes.

Rise… and reach for the Crown.

Atticus took it in at a glance, then dismissed the panel. Everything seemed… straightforward. Still, one term stood out.

“What are Crown Fragments?”

“…Every god, upon entering the Crown, is given a crown. The head hunter’s is larger—yours—while the minor hunters receive rings. Upon death, every hunter, whether head or minor, leaves behind a fragment of their crown. These are typically very valuable, as they can be used to barter with other hunters.”

“Are there other ways to get them?”

“No.” The Span gave a slow shake of his large head. “You have to kill.”

A heavy silence settled over the group at those words. For a chance to ascend, they would have to kill other gods.

‘I guess it’s the Crown’s way of pitting us against each other.’

“…Now, is there anything else, or can I take my leave?”

“I have one.”

Eyes shifted toward Whisker, who was suddenly staring at the Span with an unusually serious expression.

“…Go on.”

Whisker gave a small nod, his expression solemn.

“…Where’s your dick?”

“…”

“…”

“…”

Silence fell. Several heads turned toward Whisker, eyes widening in disbelief.

“…I mean… I get that this might not be your real form, but you still have one, right? I’ve been looking for it this whole time, and I just can’t find—”

“You…” The Span’s gaze settled on Whisker, sharp enough to feel tangible. “…do you want to die?”

Whisker coughed lightly, a grin spreading on his lips. “No need to get so worked up—”

“I have one.” Atticus quickly cut in before it could escalate.

The Span held Whisker’s gaze for a few seconds longer, then turned away.

“…What is it?”

“My main objective is to become known—to gain influence. How do you suggest I go about it?”

“For one, leave this place and enter civilization, the more developed regions of the First Crown.” The Span gave a slight shrug.

“After that, what you do is up to you. Gods have been known to go to extremes. Walk the world naked. Become a singer. A dancer. It doesn’t matter, so long as you achieve your goal.”

The Span started to rise, glow gathering around him as his form lifted.

“I suppose that’s all, then. I’d prefer not to see you again anytime soon.”

He cast one last pointed glare at Whisker, who only smiled in return, before vanishing in a brilliant flash of light.
