Chapter 1652 Unfazed
Chapter 1652 Unfazed
The world was engulfed in a radiant gold.
An unending number of golden beams swallowed the skies, raining down upon the land. In the midst of this chaos, Atticus was a blur.
His perception had spread across the entire battlefield, mapping out every single attack with absolute clarity.
He weaved through them, flickering through the storm of light before appearing before the High Judicator in an instant.
“You…!”
His earlier blow had shattered the aged man’s mask, revealing a face scarred and deformed, matted with thick golden blood.
His expression twisted with shock as Atticus drove his katana forward in an absolute thrust.
The High Judicator’s pupils shrank. He gritted his bloodied teeth and wrenched his head to the side, the blade grazing past his cheek by the smallest margin.
“Touch him.”
The words had barely left Atticus’ lips when his fist crashed into the High Judicator’s face. The impact snapped his head back violently, the force carrying through his entire body as it was sent reeling. For a brief moment, the world was filled only with the sharp crack of bone and a stifled groan, swallowed almost immediately by the distant thunder of falling beams.
“H-how…?”
The High Judicator tore backward with explosive speed, splitting through the horizon. Atticus did not hesitate. His form dissolved into a streak of light, reappearing above the High Judicator the very next moment.
The old man’s breathing had grown uneven. He bared his bloodstained teeth, his widened eyes burning with a mixture of fury and disbelief as he locked onto Atticus.
“You… how are you doing this…? How are you even able to touch me!?”
Atticus did not answer. He simply raised his sword.
“Vorpal Nova.”
A deep crimson light flared along the length of his blade, swelling outward until it took the shape of a massive crescent. Without hesitation, he brought it down.
The High Judicator’s eyes flew wide.
“Radiant Shift!”
His figure vanished in a burst of golden light. The descending strike cleaved through empty air before crashing into the terrain below with cataclysmic force. A wave of scorching fire erupted outward and devoured everything in its path.
‘Where.’
Atticus’ eyes swept across the battlefield before locking onto the High Judicator streaking away in the distance.
‘Where’s he going?’
He surged forward, closing the gap in mere moments. For an instant, the silhouette of a radiant city came into view beneath them, and then the High Judicator erupted in golden radiance.
“PEOPLE OF SERIS! YOUR HIGH JUDICATOR STANDS BEFORE YOU, DELIVERING JUSTICE UPON THE EVIL ATTICUS RAVENSTEIN!”
“The High Judicator!”
“All hail!”
“Godspeed Grace.”
The voices of the people had only just risen, when a blur tore through the city.
In the span of a single breath, the cheers died.
Bodies severed mid-motion, expressions frozen in devotion, blood erupting in violent arcs. The entire city was reduced to a silent, grotesque graveyard.
The High Judicator’s gaze trembled as he took in the sight below.
“Y-you… what have you done…?”
Below, Atticus calmly flicked the golden blood from his katana, the droplets scattering into the air. He lifted his head, his eyes meeting the High Judicator’s trembling gaze without the slightest ripple of emotion.
For a moment, the world fell completely silent.
In the next, Atticus appeared before the High Judicator, his katana descending toward him with such force that the air warped.
“Radiant Shift!”
The High Judicator vanished in a burst of light. Atticus’ eyes shifted, quickly spotting the man streaking away in the distance.
His gaze narrowed.
‘He’s trying to recover.’
He hadn’t simply been running away, but moving to other cities in this domain, where people were gathered. He was after fuel.
Atticus clenched his blade. He would be foolish to allow him.
He slowly exhaled, then sheathed his blade. He could feel the Judicator getting farther and farther away from him, and he knew time was running out. However, he closed his eyes and allowed himself to feel the molecules around him.
In an instant, the world around him lit up like a vast canvas. Atticus couldn’t count the number of times he had been chided by the Arbiter for not using his aspect to its full potential, but he couldn’t blame himself much. His aspect was still relatively new to him, and using it during battle still felt… different. Still, he had always been a fast learner.
While his control over the elements was only limited to a certain range, not nearly enough to cover the entire Willguard domain, he had figured out a way to get past this problem. While he couldn’t control the molecules outside his radius, he could control the elements within his radius and send them outward.
Atticus exhaled, then snapped his eyes open.
“Locate every city in this domain.”
The elements responded, spreading out to fulfill his order. Immediately, Atticus felt multiple dots light up like a map in his mind, each one marking a city. He then entered into a stance.
He took in a deep breath, the world falling into a blurred silence.
His eyes snapped open.
“Endless Blade.”
He blurred into countless figures of himself, an endless number of slashes swallowing the air around him. His gaze shone with a fierce, unwavering light.
“Be there.”
The endless slashes vanished in an instant.
With a deep breath, Atticus vanished. He appeared above the High Judicator moments later. The aged man’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at the corpses of the people sprawled below, an endless cascade of blood drenching the city.
He slowly turned toward Atticus, disbelief filling his expression.
“H-how?”
Atticus said nothing, simply staring at him with his cold, emotionless eyes. The High Judicator swallowed. “Radiant Shift!”
He vanished again.
A few moments later, Atticus appeared to find the same scene repeating itself. The aged man’s gaze trembled as he stared at the graveyard-like city below him. Everyone… was dead.
He gritted his teeth.
“Radiant Shift!”
They appeared above another city. And another, and another. In all, every soul was dead, and each city had been plunged into a deep, suffocating silence.
As they hovered above the last city, the High Judicator stared at Atticus with an ashen face. His expression was trembling as though he could no longer process what he was seeing.
“H-how… did you…? You killed them… all of them?”
The billions of people in the Willguard’s domain, dead. Every city deserted. The entire domain had been reduced to an endless silence.
“Why… why would you do something like this? You would really go this far… just for this?”
The aged man stared at Atticus like he was staring at something inhuman. He had seen numerous things in his life, killed numerous people, but they had all been criminals. Filth whose existence would bring danger upon the world. He had faced countless enemies, evil people who would do anything to fulfill their goals. However, this was the first time he had ever witnessed something like this.
He had slaughtered innocents, billions of them, just to weaken him.
“…Is life really that worthless to you?”
The sharp sound of a blade being drawn echoed as Atticus gradually drew his katana. His expression remained devoid of emotion, his still eyes without the slightest ripple.
He locked eyes with the aged man.
“Yes.”
The High Judicator’s eyes widened as Atticus vanished, appearing before him in a gale of wind. His katana flashed toward his head.
The High Judicator gritted his teeth, an intense hatred settling deep within his gaze. He jerked his head to the side and barely evaded the thrust, but Atticus followed instantly with a cataclysmic uppercut that sent him tearing into the sky.
Atticus flashed before him in the air, his leg shooting forward. It struck into the side of his face, hurling him across the horizon with overwhelming force.
The High Judicator gritted his teeth, scarcely regaining control of his momentum as he tore toward a random direction the next moment.
He glanced back, his eyes widening as he saw Atticus already catching up to him with a cold gaze.
He faced forward again, unleashing a blast behind him that pushed him even faster.
Atticus narrowed his eyes. He had killed every citizen in the domain, where could the High Judicator possibly be heading now?
‘It doesn’t matter.’
It was impossible to predict what someone on their last ropes might do. For all he knew, the man might be trying to escape. Atticus’ gaze grew colder. He couldn’t allow that to happen.
Gripping his katana, he exploded forward with even greater speed, closing the distance almost instantly.
He frowned the next moment. Ahead, he could see the looming structure of the Willguard headquarters.
‘He’s trying to get there.’
He fixed his gaze on the spot directly behind the High Judicator.
“Take me there.”
The elements responded. Atticus flashed behind the surging High Judicator, thrusting his katana forward. The aged man suddenly turned toward him, his gaze turning fierce.
“Radiant Detonation!”
A radiant orb suddenly formed between them, swelling with unstable energy before detonating in a violent explosion that swallowed the sky.
Atticus waved his arm, dispersing the dust engulfing his vision. His eyes narrowed on the High Judicator, who lay within a large crater at the base of the hill leading to the Willguard base.
Atticus tightened his grip on his katana and was about to move when a cold wave suddenly washed over him.
‘What?’
His gaze snapped toward the Willguard base instantly. A second passed, then a violent explosion tore through its foundation, spreading rapidly across the entire structure until it exploded into fragments.
Atticus covered himself with his will, shielding against the aftermath. As the thick haze slowly cleared, Atticus fixed his eyes on the source.
Azeron’s bloodied and battered form knelt on the ground with gritted teeth, before a man.
The man was bald, with countless ancient-looking tattoos emblazoned across his body.
Countless purple fragments swirled around him, shooting into his body at intervals. The tattoos along his skin pulsed with a faint crimson light before dimming once more.
‘The weapon.’
Atticus’ gaze grew cold as the man slowly lifted his head, fixing him with an emotionless stare.
