Chapter 1594 Bad Idea
Chapter 1594 Bad Idea
Atticus appeared down and his gaze instantly found Ozeroth, who stood straight ahead with his eyes narrowed at the advancing spirit army. Beside him, Ozerra hovered with a confused expression, clearly trying to make sense of what was happening.
“Traitor Ozeroth!”
The spirit god leading the army shone brightly.
“I have come to deliver your judgment for betraying your people and our king! Come out here and face me!”
Atticus frowned.
“Well? How do you want to handle this?”
“…”
Atticus glanced at Ozeroth, whose expression had hardened. “I know they’re your people and all. But right now they’re enemies. We can’t spare them.”
“Yeah…”
Ozeroth’s hand clenched slowly at his sides. “What the hell is going on here?”
Ozerra furrowed her brows, and Atticus turned to Ozeroth. “Will you tell her, or should I?”
“Big bro?”
“Huh…?”
The sudden call caught Atticus off guard. He glanced at Ozerra, who was now staring directly at Ozeroth. ‘He must have told her.’
He felt a faint stab of envy. How would it feel, he wondered, to have someone call him big brother without…
“They were… are my people, Ozerra,” Ozeroth finally said, turning fully toward her.
“Your people? You mean…?”
“Yes. It’s where I came from.”
“Our father…”
Ozerra’s fists clenched at her sides as she turned her gaze back to the vast spirit army. “Bond. I know that man. He’s one of the Primarchs and a tier six being. The Spirit King is brainwashing his mind.”
“So?”
“…We can’t just kill them.” “…”
Atticus studied him silently. He had always known Ozeroth carried a soft spot for the people of the spirit world, except the Spirit King himself, but what Ozeroth was asking of him now was…
“I’ll make you pay for your treason! I declare my intent to seize this territory! Attack!”
At the spirit God’s roar, the army poured forward, charging towards them. High above them, the spirit god unsheathed his blade and launched himself forward with a furious roar. “Bond…”
Ozeroth turned and met Atticus’ eyes, freezing the latter. There was no pride in Ozeroth’s eyes, only pleading.
‘What should I do?’
Atticus frowned. The pain in Ozeroth’s expression was clear, and the fact that someone like him had been driven to this state spoke volumes about how much this meant to him.
Still… what he was being asked to do was dangerous on more levels than he cared to count. ‘What if they were my family?’
If his people, his family, had been brainwashed by the spirit king and were abruptly attacking him, killing them would be the last thing on his mind.
“Can you even undo the brainwashing?” “That’s for me to worry about.” Atticus closed his eyes and drew in a slow breath. When he opened them again, his decision had already been made. He raised one arm calmly.
“Sleep.”
The spirit god, moments from reaching them, suddenly went limp and plummeted from the sky. Across the battlefield, the countless spirits charging forward began to collapse one after another as they drew closer, until in the span of a second, the entire battlefield fell into absolute silence.
“Whatever happens after this… is on you.”
“Yes…”
As Ozeroth silently nodded, Atticus vanished from the scene.
…
‘You should’ve killed them.’
As expected, the Arbiter’s irritated voice echoed in his mind the moment he appeared atop the hill. ‘Ozeroth is family. They’re important to him. That makes them important to me too.’
‘I’ve gone through your memories of him. This Spirit King is a cunning being. Is this really the kind of risk you should be taking?’
‘It’s not my choice to make.’
‘Yet it is your burden to bear. Tell me, when this inevitably turns into a trap, whose family will be the ones paying the price?’
‘…’
At his silence, she clicked her tongue, clearly displeased.
‘A true warrior, a true leader, would never allow emotions to cloud their judgment. Not when the lives of people beyond them are at stake.’
Atticus didn’t deny the truth in her words. He knew she wasn’t wrong. And yet, no matter how hard he tried, Ozeroth’s pleading gaze refused to leave his mind. Years they had spent together, countless battles, countless moments, and never once had he seen that look on him before.
‘I accepted because I understand him.’
‘Hmm?’
‘If my family were in the same position, if they were being brainwashed by some bastard… I’d do the same thing.’
‘…It’s still stupid.’
‘Yeah… I know.’
Atticus exhaled slowly, letting the tension bleed from his body, and once his thoughts settled, he immediately got to work. The next events unfolded easily enough as he had done this only a month prior.
He moved through each territory, erasing the last remnants of their armies and every remaining will user before delivering his usual declaration. When he reached the spirit world, he simply put what remained of the army to sleep and subjugated the entire territory without resistance.
When it was done, he appeared at the edge of the spirit territory, where Ozeroth stood with one arm over the spirit god’s head, his eyes emitting a steady golden glow.
Whisker had somehow found his way there as well, hovering nearby alongside Ozerra.
The moment Atticus appeared beside him, Whisker shot him a look.
‘Are you sure about this… fearless leader? I don’t mean to question your divine authority, but what the hell…’
‘It’s what Ozeroth wants.’ ‘The man was literally a virgin until seconds ago. We’re letting him make decisions now? Do I need to remind you of everything that spirit man did, or should I bring up your ex?’
‘Leave Zoey out of this.’ He shot Whisker a stare. ‘And let’s give him some benefit of the doubt. What would you do if you were in his shoes?’
‘Uh… slaughter the threats? Take no chances?’
‘Let him be, Whisker.’
‘Urg. This is definitely a bad idea…’
Whisker went quiet after that, though Atticus could still feel the man’s dissatisfaction. Even so, he stood by his decision and transformed his focus back to Ozeroth and the spirit god, both of whom were now enveloped in a thick blanket of golden light.
‘He’s using omnicognition.’
Linking his mind with Ozeroth’s, Atticus was instantly met with an endless cascade of calculations and shifting possibilities. Ozeroth was dissecting the Spirit King’s brainwashing art piece by piece, attempting to unravel its structure and counter it entirely.
Which made this situation all the more shocking. As this was Ozeroth’s own aspect, his use of omnicognition should have surpassed Atticus’ by a wide margin, yet while Atticus had needed only seconds to copy grand Will Arts such as the Redflames’ Renewal, several full minutes had already passed and Ozeroth was still working through this single art. Atticus could only begin to imagine the sheer complexity behind a Will Art capable of something like this.
