Atticus’s Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground

Chapter 1496 Waning

Chapter 1496  Waning

Scarlet. Everywhere.

The skies were engulfed in blazing red. The horizon swallowed in flames. Everywhere Anorah looked, she only saw red.

Her will still encased the whole city, flickering as Redflame attacks hammered at it. Each impact shook her core, sending jolts of pain through her body.

‘I can’t keep this up.’

The Red flame army was almost upon them. Though their target was right ahead, they didn’t appear in a hurry. They marched slowly, chanting loudly, leaving burned earth in their wake.

Anorah could feel the morale of the resistance waning as the seconds passed. The once hyped army had been reduced to clusters of clattering teeth and shaking limbs.

The only thing keeping the city together was her shield. One attack from a viscount level god would decimate the entire city.

“Raise your weapons!” Anorah raised her blade, its radiance bathing the city. “They’re almost upon us! We’d rather die fighting!”

Many picked themselves from rubble and corners, hesitantly gathering at the city’s edge once more. They shook the moment they saw how close the Redflames were.

“Saint!”

Anorah glanced down. The council members hovered below, each donned in gleaming armor, weapons drawn.

‘At least they’re still here.’

The council members were a pain in the ass, but useful in moments like this. Their wills were firm, their eyes resolute.

“Where’s… he?” Lazio asked, glancing around. The others wondered the same.

Instinctively, Anorah looked toward the balcony, only to see it empty.

‘Where did he go? Did he… abandon me?’

She quickly shook her head.

‘He wouldn’t.’

Surviving this without Atticus was impossible. Rallying morale was one thing, surviving viscount-level Redflame armies was another.

She scanned the city and narrowed her eyes.

‘He’s still here.’

What was he doing at the edge? He had gathered Magnus and the others. Was he trying to run?

Anorah clenched her fist.

‘He wouldn’t.’

She reassured herself again, just as multiple crimson lights drew her gaze upward. Fiery attacks, larger than any previous, surged toward the city.

Anorah’s heart dropped immediately.

‘Above middle rank.’

Her will wouldn’t withstand the concussive shock of these. Blocking them meant crippling herself. She couldn’t afford that.

She raised her arm and dissolved the shield around the city.

“Take cover!”

She roared as the attacks tore past her and crashed into the city. Waves of fire blasted out, sweeping across the streets.

The council members and many gods and champions took off into the sky, fleeing the blaze. Anorah did the same.

High above, she stared down as the entire city was engulfed in flames. It plummeted from the sky, crashing into the earth, blasting flaming debris across the horizon.

For a moment, the entire resistance watched in grim silence as the earth drowned in a thick haze. Then came the march of the Redflames. The rumble of their unified chant.

In perfect unison, the Redflames halted, glaring up with blazing eyes. A dreadful silence settled, broken by a single voice. “Attack.”

The Redflames exploded upward in a blaze, arms bared, bodies engulfed as they surged toward the resistance.

A chorus of panic erupted, but Anorah’s glow shone, swallowing the sky. She raised her blade.

“Die fighting! Never give up!”

“Die fighting! Never give up!” the council echoed.

The other gods and champions followed, screaming in unison:

“Die fighting! Never give up!”

Anorah’s eyes blazed as she thundered:

“Attack!”

She dropped from the skies in a streak of light, the resistance charging behind her. The armies clashed in an explosion of gold and crimson.

Anorah tore through the ranks of the Redflame army. Every god she struck fell within a few clashes. She never stopped. Her sword blurred through shields, weapons, and attacks alike.

She felt the scorching heat of the Redflame army but kept moving. Her golden light swallowed everything in her path.

Only moments had passed since the battle began, yet her expression grew darker.

‘We’re losing.’

She cut down gods as fast as she could. The council members held their own.

But that was where it ended.

The other resistance gods fell faster than she could help them.

And the champions… except hers, the others were helpless. Most fell in their first clash.

This was their first large scale battle against a major faction. Previous clashes were ambushes and skirmishes. Anorah couldn’t deny the overwhelming divide between them and the major factions.

‘Did we ever even stand a chance?’

“Saint…”

Was this how their fight against their oppressors was meant to end? Had it been hopeless from the start? Is she really about to lose her father’s legacy?

“Saint!”

A hand yanked Anorah away from the descending path of a blade. She blinked rapidly, her blade flashing as she severed the head of the Redflame viscount before quickly turning to Lazio.

“Are you okay?”

Anorah exhaled heavily, then nodded.

“I am. Thank you.”

“It’s nothing,” Lazio said, then his expression hardened. “What are your orders? We’ll lose at this rate.”

Anorah glanced around again. The battlefield was chaos. Screams, blood, fire. She clenched her fist.

“We keep fighting.”

Lazio’s expression tightened. That clearly wasn’t the answer he wanted, but he nodded.

“As you wish.”

Multiple collisions sounded around them. Three figures emerged from the haze.

“She should be the one in charge. Not bad,” a hefty man with a blazing aura said, staring directly at Anorah.

“Take your thirsty eyes off our target,” another, more slender one snapped. His will blazed just as fiercely. “We’re meant to kill her.”

As Anorah looked at the third, her eyes darkened. Though he remained silent, his blazing will surpassed the other two.

“S-Saint…” Lazio swallowed. “They’re—”

“I know.” Anorah tightened her grip. “Viscount Merek’s children.”

Even worse, their wills were well above middle rank. Almost at the peak!

“Well then…” the hefty one grinned. “Let’s get this party started, shall we?”

The trio shot forward like missiles, weapons tearing through the air.

Anorah swung her blade with all her strength, their clash birthing a strong force that swallowed the battlefield whole.
