Atticus’s Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground

Chapter 1409 Unexpected

Chapter 1409  Unexpected

The universe was vast and immense.

No one, especially the people of the middle planes, could accurately tell how long the universe had been.

People of different types, races, and groups littered all of creation. At this point, it was hard, if not impossible, to accurately keep track of their numbers.

As innumerable as these races and groups were, so were their power systems and abilities. While many shared similarities, others were wildly different from the rest.

Regardless of their differences, every path led to the same end, a single, perfected expression of power. An ultimate move.

It was something one had practiced and refined for the better part of their life. It was the one line that separated the elite from the normal.

It was rare, if not impossible, for a single person, especially one who hadn’t lived for even a century, to bear multiple ultimate moves.

It was simply the norm. While Will had blurred out the importance of normal abilities, the rules still hadn’t changed.

Which was why, as the two words reached the ears of the charging Sentinel, he felt his pulse stop.

‘What is… this?’

A feeling of danger engulfed his entire form, like he had been doused with icy water.

‘He had more hidden cards…?’

More ultimate moves? How was this possible?

Elemental fusion was something even those in the Span struggled to achieve, especially one so seamless.

The best many could do was combine air and fire to form a blizzard of flames, water and earth to form mud…

But this child had combined four elements to form a new element entirely. It was a power that should be central, the highest he had achieved.

A power of such consequence should’ve been achieved by sacrificing most of one’s life to its accomplishment.

Which meant other avenues of power should be closed off… nonexistent.

Which was why the Sentinel had taken the move and buried the power. Without the elements, Atticus should have nothing left. The clash should be his. Follow current novls on novel·fıre·net

But…

“Sundering Storm.”

The Sentinel felt the world slow. But it wasn’t that his perception had just increased. No.

‘He’s moving.’

Things were happening fast, too fast for the world to keep up.

The Sentinel watched, wide eyed, as Atticus slowly unsheathed his katana, then vanished.

A purple storm replaced his position, roaring to life with such intensity that it slammed into the Sentinel with crushing weight. He was hurled back, shooting across the skies.

‘What is this power?’

He struggled to place it.

The storm had engulfed him from all sides. Though they had taken all light from the world, Solvath was a primordial star. Fragment or not, its glow could not be stolen by the likes of them.

‘The artifact still works.’

Still, even as Solvath’s power surrounded him, his armor and weapon held strong.

‘There is another…’ He sensed it immediately. It was an inferior energy source, mana, but it bore so much strength it made him wary.

‘Another technique,’ the Sentinel realized. Somehow, more powerful than the elements.

How was this possible? How could there be something stronger than combining four elements?

The Sentinel’s hair rose.

‘He comes.’

The storm converged around him, formless slashes materializing in every direction.

“Armor,” he commanded. The shadow surged to protect him, but his eyes widened in the next second.

‘They carve through…’

Another impossibility. How had this force pierced his darkness? He should be stronger! Faster!

‘I have to clip his wings again.’

The Sentinel reached out mentally to one of the Life Artifacts in the Will Guard ranks, only for his thought to freeze.

‘They’re… dead?’ His pulse quickened. ‘He killed them…’

Was this why he used such power… this lethal storm? Atticus’s attack had not only been directed at him. He had targeted the Will Guard army and annihilated their ranks. The Life Artifacts were dead!

‘What is this child…?’

How had Atticus achieved this while facing a monster like him?

‘There’s no other choice.’

The storm was lethal, an incalculable number of slashes came at him from every conceivable angle.

He became a spiral of man and darkness, channeling his power to defend himself, but it was no use. The slashes carved through the darkness, threatening to reach him.

‘I have to escape.’

The Life Artifacts were gone. No wills could be used. They were at a disadvantage. There was no winning this, not now.

‘Get ready!’ he sent telepathically to the first Sentinel.

But before he could act, the darkness around him churned.

A voice came.

“I told you.”

The second Sentinel felt his blood freeze. That voice… why was it so close?

‘Behind me.’

His head snapped back. Atticus hovered just meters away from him.

‘How did he get so close…?’

The darkness was his domain. How had Atticus moved within it unseen? His eyes widened as he saw wisps of darkness coiling around Atticus.

‘He controls more elements.’ He finally realized. This was how he’d bypassed his defenses since. Atticus had controlled his darkness!

‘What is he…?’

Their eyes met, and for the first time, the Sentinel saw the true depth in those eyes.

‘I was never in control of anything.’

Atticus raised his katana. The storm howled in response, gathering around his blade and morphing into a dragon of pure destruction.

“…telling you is irrelevant,” he said quietly, “because you will die.”

He swung. The dragon descended, roaring as it collided with the Sentinel’s defenses. His darkness surged to meet it, but his eyes darkened.

‘I… can’t… defend.’

The dragon tore through, devouring the darkness and consuming his body.

As the storm shredded him piece by piece, he still managed to look toward Atticus.

“You are an anomaly… one I’ve never seen before,” he rasped.

“Even in death, you’ve piqued my interest. So I’ll warn you. The forces after you are beyond comprehension. You might think the Verge rules protect you, but you’re wrong. Find a way to rid yourself of that vile evil, or your time in this world will be short.”

Atticus watched, expressionless, as the remnants of the Sentinel were torn apart and dispersed into the darkness.

‘Unexpected.’

Logoth still consumed him. He felt nothing of the Sentinel’s death. Simply another enemy shown his place, nothing more, nothing less.

But…

‘His warning.’

This was what Atticus had found odd. Had his fighting style affected the Sentinel so much that he would use his last breath for Atticus’s benefit?

At one moment, the man had been trying to kill him; now, he was advising him. He hadn’t seen that coming.
