Atticus’s Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground

Chapter 1404 Loss

Chapter 1404  Loss

“Begin!”

For a moment, the Resistance army vanished, replaced by a blinding sea of golden light.

Every soldier erupted into radiance, their forms merging with the brilliance above.

The sun itself seemed to answer their call, flaring brighter as their light intensified. Heat rippled through the air, and members of the Will Guard had to shield their eyes, their armor glowing white-hot.

Then, as one, the ocean of glow surged forward in a singular beam of light that ripped across the land. The ground turned to glass in their wake; the air torn apart to make way.

But amidst the incoming devastation, the Sentinels didn’t even blink. Their masked faces stayed still.

“Step forward,” the second Sentinel ordered.

Two soldiers obeyed, walking out from the Will Guard’s ranks to stand before the Sentinels.

“Do it,” the taller Sentinel said.

The two hesitated only a moment before removing their cloaks.

Anorah’s eyes blew wide the moment she saw the markings carved into their torsos. The tattoos!

‘No…’

Both men lifted their heads skyward and spoke as one:

“Let there be no light.”

Their bodies imploded in blinding flashes. A spear of darkness shot upward, piercing the heavens.

The sun dimmed, then died. The glow surrounding the Resistance army flickered, then collapsed entirely.

The world was plunged into absolute night.

Anorah felt her heart pound. She stared in disbelief as shadows swallowed everything.

The current attack was one she’d created specifically for this moment.

She had achieved it by combining the power of every single one of them. She was still god in this world, and her energy was boundless.

This was the earlier hope she’d seen and believed in. Eventually, even if it was through sheer grit, they would win.

But though she’d expected that the Will Guard could have more of the tattooed warriors from earlier, she hadn’t worried about it since their power only affected Will.

However, it would appear that her assumption had been wrong. Their technology didn’t only affect Will, it affected reality!

‘Snap out of it!’

She forced her mind to steady, her thoughts cutting through the panic. Their power came from light; without it, she was crippled, god or not. It was like having her connection to the world severed.

‘I have to keep moving.’

Her hand reached for her sword. Even in this void, as a god, she still felt a thread of power within her grasp. An enormous amount of energy was still within her, but she had to use it sparringly.

No matter how much she tried, a force was holding her back from reigniting the light.

‘It’s not forever,’ she soon realized. The force holding her back waned with every passing second.

‘We just have to survive until then.’

Anorah unsheathed her sword, the sound sharp against the silence.

“With me!” she thundered, about to charge forward when a whistle sliced through the darkness.

She slipped into Logoth on instinct. The silence deepened and perception sharpened. With her inner light, she could see the world clearly. The sight made her freeze.

A sword was inches from piercing her chest.

Just as she was about to act, the sound of steel piercing flesh echoed, confusing her.

‘I can’t feel anything.’

She focused on her front, and what she saw made her blood run cold.

“No…”

The word escaped her lips, and she didn’t even realize she’d slipped out of Logoth.

Standing before her, his back to her and a blade buried through his chest, was One. He had taken the strike meant for her.

“One!”

A purple glow ignited in Anorah’s eyes.

Out of Logoth, she felt Solvath’s emotions surge through her, but she didn’t care.

In the heart of the darkness, her gaze locked on the Sentinel ahead. His eyes, sharp and calculating, now narrowed in visible shock. He had missed his mark.

Despite the suppression of light across the world, Anorah’s body still burst in a purple light.

With a roar that shook the silence, she blazed forward, sword crashing toward the Sentinel.

The Sentinel’s eyes widened, but before the blow could land, the second Sentinel blipped between them, his weapon rising to meet hers.

The clash birthed a blinding flash of violet, illuminating the blackened world. But in her fury, Anorah hadn’t seen the weapon the Sentinel wielded.

As the purple light surrounding her began to flicker, she caught sight of a gauntlet, set with a dark gem.

It was the same artifact that suppressed Solvath’s power back on the Will-less world!

She acted on sheer instinct and forced herself back into Logoth. Her thoughts steadied, and she drew back her sword, ready to retreat with One, when a heavy blow struck her midsection, the impact crushing the air from her lungs.

Her eyes widened as she twisted midair, catching sight of the first Sentinel lowering his arm, his stance perfect.

She barely managed to grab One before tearing backward, sliding across the ground until she skidded to a stop.

Regaining her balance, Anorah fell to her knees, cradling One in her arms.

“One!”

He coughed, blood spilling down his chin. “A–Anorah…” The glow in his eyes was already fading.

Anorah’s eyes trembled as she saw a black wilt spread from the wound across his chest, darkening his veins.

“No… no, wait! I’ll heal you!” she cried, trying to summon the light. But the restriction was still in place, and the power refused her call.

Without the world’s light, without connection to the world, even the elements would not obey.

One smiled faintly, his breathing shallow. “It’s fine, Anorah… The odds may be against you, but you’ll overcome them. You always have.”

His fingers brushed her cheek weakly. “Remember, you’re stronger than your father ever was…”

In the next moment, his hand fell limp by his side, and the light in his eyes went out.

“No… No, no! One! ONE!!!”

Anorah screamed at the top of her lungs, drowned only by the cries of the Resistance army as the Will Guard pressed their assault, cutting through them.

Without their power source, they were helpless.

Moments later, after most were dead, the Sentinels reached Anorah. They stood over her, watching as she wept beside One’s body.

“You,” the tall one said coldly, “your very existence is the cause of this death and destruction. You should have ended yourself the moment you discovered what you are.”

Both Sentinels stretched their arms forward. Orbs of darkness gathered in their palms, their eyes gleaming.

“Every kin of that cursed star must die.”

The orbs burst into beams of pure darkness, merging midair into a single colossal torrent that roared toward the kneeling Saint.

Anorah didn’t bother to move. She only looked towards the approaching beam with a blank gaze. Newest update provided by nοvelfire.net

The beams were about to engulf her when a streak of light ripped through them, splitting the darkness in two.

The Sentinels’ eyes constricted.

‘Who…?’

As the last fragments of the beam faded, the Sentinels’ gazes fell on the lone figure standing before the Saint.

There was grave silence. Then the figure lifted a hand, and the world remembered light.
