Chapter 1278: Catching Up
Tang Jie flew toward the starlight. This bizarre dimension lacked reference objects to estimate the amount of time that had passed.
But his own senses told him that he had been flying for around three days.
In these three days, he hadn’t run into anything, and that starlight still seemed as distant as the stars.
But Tang Jie knew that this wasn’t an illusion. It was just that this dimension was too big.
Suddenly, Tang Jie stopped.
Two lights had lit up nearby, like two stars in the eternal darkness.
Tang Jie knew that these were no stars.
As the stars grew brighter and brighter, Tang Jie could tell that they were the eyes of some massive beast.
Its enormous form was concealed in the darkness, but that did nothing to hide the immense pressure it exerted.
“Hwooo!”
The beast’s exhalation produced a mighty gale.
“A Remote Antiquity behemoth?” By the power of its breath, Tang Jie sensed that this was an enormously powerful behemoth of Remote Antiquity.
Tang Jie had encountered such a beast back in the Immortal Emperor’s tomb and was surprised to find one here in this bizarre dimension. But now that he thought about it, this dimension and the Immortal Emperor’s tomb shared many similarities. This was probably no coincidence, but because Yu Cheng already had some understanding of this place and built his tomb based on it.
As this thought was going through his mind, Tang Jie released several dozen Divine Connections. With his peak Violet Palace strength, his several dozen Divine Connections were just barely able to fend off the behemoth’s attack, upon which the behemoth opened its mouth wide and breathed in.
Tang Jie immediately felt himself being sucked to the behemoth’s mouth.
Only then could he see that there were spatial ripples emanating from that maw, the presence of a subspace.
“Damn, the World Eater.” Tang Jie recognized this behemoth for what it was.
The World Eater was considered the number one behemoth of the cosmos. Nobody knew how big it really was, only that it consumed domains as food, and its stomach was a subspace. Anyone it sucked in would be lost within it. Thus, the World Eater didn’t need any other kind of ability, simply sucking up everything it encountered.
The World Eater was a legendary existence, and Tang Jie hadn’t ever expected to run into one.
As the World Eater began to breathe in, Tang Jie knew that if he were sucked in, he would probably be stuck forevermore in the world within the World Eater’s belly.
He immediately roared and assumed his giant form, his body bursting with power.
The berserk power anchored his body, allowing him to resist the pull.
Tang Jie threw out a punch.
This punch was aimed at that enormous mouth, and as it struck, the World Eater suddenly hissed, and the pull became a push, a mighty gale sending Tang Jie flying. Despite his immense strength, he was still blown away as easily as a kite.
Tang Jie was startled.
Ever since reaching Gold Immortal, Tang Jie had believed that only a few individuals in the Great Stellar Chiliocosm could threaten him.
But then this giant beast had come out of nowhere and sent him flying with a single wheeze.
Fortunately, the punch had seemingly made the World Eater feel pain. While this thing was big, it wasn’t particularly gutsy, and it now drew away.
The enormous silhouette suddenly vanished as if it had never existed, so quickly that it took Tang Jie a moment to adjust.
It had run away!
The World Eater of legends was said to actually be a rather lazy creature that spent most of its time asleep, and it seemed that the legends were true.
This guy had been powerful, but it clearly lacked a fighting spirit. What had happened just now was a chance encounter where it had seen Tang Jie and tried to eat him, but once it realized that Tang Jie wasn’t going to go down without a fight, it gave up.
But for the World Eater to have awoken now meant that someone must have provoked it earlier. Since that sleep-loving World Eater still had its senses about it, those people couldn’t have gone far.
The thought excited Tang Jie.
He had finally caught up.
As he flew along, Tang Jie finally saw four people engaged in a chase, three Immortal generals chasing a single devil chief.
They were all at the True Immortal level, but here, they had been degraded to Deification.
Tang Jie flew right over.
“Tang Jie?!” When the two sides spotted Tang Jie, they both cried out in surprise.
Tang Jie frowned. “What? Why is it so surprising to see me?”
The devil chief smiled. “I greet Domain Lord Tang. I am under Demon Sovereign White Tiger. We thought that Domain Lord Tang would not be coming, so it is a surprise to see the Domain Lord. Domain Lord Tang, please assist me. These three scoundrel birds are far too annoying.”
“Oh? Why did you think I wouldn’t come in?” Tang Jie asked as he flew over.
“Because we waited for you there for a long time, and you still didn’t come in,” the devil chief replied.
Tang Jie’s eyes narrowed. “How long did you wait?”
The devil chief was about to reply when he was struck by an Immortal general’s attack, upon which he angrily said, “Let’s take care of this riffraff first.”
Tang Jie turned and punched an Immortal general in the face, and then he thrust out a palm to block the Divine Connections of the other two. “Tell me: how long did you wait?”
“Around a day,” the devil chief answered.
“‘A day’?”
He had only spent around fifteen minutes outside the crack for the sake of weakening the remaining forces of the court and the Primordial Fog, but here, an entire day had passed.
Did time flow differently here?
It really was similar to the Immortal Emperor’s tomb!
Tang Jie was more and more certain that Yu Cheng had come to this place, but then for some reason, he had left again. After that, he had come up with his plan to enter a ten-thousand-year hibernation and return.
As he was thinking this, the three generals shouted, “Tang Jie, do you really think you can do as you want here? This strange dimension causes everyone’s cultivation level to fall, and even Gold Immortals will be pushed back to Soul Projection. The three of us might be weaker than you, but we’re also less affected, only brought down to peak Deification. By working together, we can be your match!”
As they spoke, they took out their treasures and began to attack Tang Jie.
Cocking his head, Tang Jie examined the three Immortal generals and said, “You guys got here earlier than me, so do you not know that body cultivators are unaffected here?”
“What?”
Tang Jie threw a punch at one of the Immortal generals.
It was with greater force this time, immense power blasting into the general’s body and instantly obliterating him.
The general simply dissolved into the void, not even given the chance to revive.
Drawing back his fist, Tang Jie casually said, “And even without my body cultivation, I still have this.”
He took out the Sovereign Blade and unleashed a brilliant slash at the treasures. Not only did he shatter the treasures, he also cleaved apart another general. And while this general had been weakened, his Divine Soul still persisted and was able to revive. But Tang Jie didn’t give him this opportunity, unleashing another blow from the Sovereign Blade that obliterated the soul.
In a flash, Tang Jie had turned three into one, and the remaining general immediately tried to flee in terror.
Tang Jie sighed. “Even if you had not known of the Sovereign Blade, you should have heard from Yu Cheng that I once defeated a Violet Palace True Lord while at Soul Transformation, and an Immortal while at Violet Palace. I challenge others above my level like it’s an everyday thing, so if those on the same level as me want to kill me, they had better come in great numbers. The three of you were weaker than me, and you actually wanted to try and fight me… Even without my Sovereign Blade or my body cultivation, I could have killed you with a flip of my palm.”
He immediately thrust out his palm, striking the fleeing general in the back and smashing him into a pancake, fulfilling his just-made boast.
The devil chief was horrified at the slaughter he had just witnessed. It’s a good thing that my boss is his adopted son and we’re on the same side, he thought to himself. “Domain Lord Tang is truly formidable. Thank you for saving my life—”
“Do you know where Bao’er went?” Tang Jie cut him off.
After a pause, the devil chief replied, “Yu Cheng headed off for that starlight, and my Demon Sovereign gave chase. The others followed while fighting along the way. I’m not good at flying, so I fell behind and ran into those three, who started chasing me down. Thankfully, I ran into Domain Lord. If Domain Lord Tang wishes to see my sovereign, I can—”
“No need,” Tang Jie answered, thrusting out a palm, pushing the devil chief’s head into his neck and killing him on the spot.
Because of his body cultivation, this bizarre dimension actually increased the power differential between Tang Jie and the others. Outside, it would have taken him quite some effort to kill four True Immortals.
After killing these four, Tang Jie continued on his way, running into several more groups, all of which he killed regardless of faction.
Gradually, he drew closer and closer to that star.
Only then did he realize that it was a tower.
A heaven-reaching tower exuding dazzling starlight.
