Chapter 1269: Revival
Hordes of demons poured out of the spatial fissure.
These demons made their way to the court, their demonic energy descending like a dark cloud over that artificial world.
At this moment, the Court of Myriad Domains was empty. While a few soldiers remained, they clearly weren’t enough to deal with the enormous forces of God Phoenix Palace. The demons were like the pounding waves of the ocean, while the remaining garrison was like lonesome rocks on the shore, posing no hindrance at all.
The Immortal soldiers could only engage in a fighting retreat, and as they fell back, the protective formations began to trigger.
Storms brewed over the court and flames blazed, and the demons were like moths casting themselves upon the pyre. But the demons remained fearless, continuing their charge, and the protective formations were ultimately not up to the task, despite all their power. The demons broke through them via the most primitive methods, simply enduring the frost and lightning to unleash their power on the formations. Countless demons were slain as a result, but the formations broke one after the other. Some of them were simply blasted to pieces by the endless onslaught, while others ran out of energy.
But most of the formations were corrupted by demonic energy and stopped working.
The demonic energy produced by the deaths of so many demons polluted the court, rendering its lands barren and its waters contaminated, creating a wasteland of despair.
The holy and sacred Court of Myriad Domains had been engulfed in darkness.
Immortal Ji Yao laughed.
“Yu Cheng, you didn’t expect this, that I would one day strike back at you! Back then, you permitted the Azure Dragon to manipulate me, so today, I will finally make you pay!”
On his throne, Yu Cheng opened his eyes, glanced at Immortal Ji Yao, and slowly said, “Seeking death!”
Then he closed his eyes and proceeded to ignore her.
Immortal Ji Yao’s face twisted in rage.
While it was the Azure Dragon who had done her wrong ten thousand years ago, judging by the arrangements at the time, Yu Cheng had clearly known everything yet let it go on without asking questions. Thus, Immortal Ji Yao similarly loathed him.
When the Azure Dragon died after Yu Cheng’s return, Immortal Ji Yao put all her hatred onto Yu Cheng.
But only when she saw Yu Cheng did she realize that Yu Cheng had never taken her seriously.
Even now, when she was at the head of a demon army, Yu Cheng was unruffled.
“Bastard!” Immortal Ji Yao gnashed her teeth. “Full-on assault!”
Everyone from Yu Cheng to Nine Disaster had their reason for being here, and for Immortal Ji Yao, that reason was revenge. Those who fought for revenge didn’t tend to think in the long term or contemplate too many schemes. They simply wanted to have a good massacre. The moment the Court of Myriad Domains was emptied, Immortal Ji Yao unleashed all of the hatred she had repressed for ten thousand years.
She wanted to drench the court in blood!
The demon assault intensified.
Hundreds of thousands of demons obscured the heavens with their bodies.
At the front was the Primordial Heavenly Demon. After escaping the court, he had always wanted to come back and wreck the place. Alas, the positive plane belonged to the humans, and while he was all alone, he couldn’t act out too much. But once Immortal Ji Yao contacted him, he finally had his chance to strike back, and he cherished the opportunity, his demonic energy corrupting soldier after soldier.
His presence allowed the demons to replenish some of the terrible losses they were suffering.
For a moment, Immortal Ji Yao’s offensive rallied the demons and made the court’s army tremble in fear.
But the good times weren’t able to last for too long.
Just when the demon offensive was seeming unstoppable, a golden blast of light struck the Primordial Heavenly Demon.
Caught off guard, the Primordial Heavenly Demon was sent flying. At the same time, he spat out a black cloud of energy that blocked a second golden blast. But as he was doing so, a silver thread flew over, penetrating through his countless barriers and weaving around his body. With a single tug, the thread was drawn tight, and the Primordial Heavenly Demon was sliced into countless chunks.
The Primordial Heavenly Demon was no reckless brute. It was just that most of his attention had been on Yu Cheng. Only when that golden light had appeared did he realize that he was mistaken, that there was another Gold Immortal in the court. And when he was blocking that Gold Immortal’s attack, he made another mistake, not expecting there to be a third Gold Immortal.
The joint attack of the two Gold Immortals had resulted in the swift destruction of his body.
“Who was it!? Who dares to attack this one!?” the Primordial Heavenly Demon shouted in fury, not even bothering to reform his body.
Another blast of light flew toward the Primordial Heavenly Demon. It didn’t seem particularly powerful, but he sensed that it posed him a grave threat, shouting in alarm, “Soul Butchering Finger!”
He despaired.
A spatial ripple swept over his soul, instantly teleporting him away. The Primordial Heavenly Demon turned to Immortal Ji Yao, who said with a scowl, “Warheaven Wolf, Hong Beicang!”
Two people appeared in the sky, none other than the two Gold Immortals who had been dispatched to deal with Tang Jie. As these two appeared, countless soldiers emerged from all over the court, encircling the invading demons.
Even Tang Jie was taken aback by the appearance of this pair.
They weren’t dead?
When Warheaven Wolf had been dispatched to destroy the Rosecloud Domain, Tang Jie’s avatar had taken control of Yu Cheng and ordered Hong Beicang stop him, thus causing the two to fight and heavily injure each other. Afterward, Tang Jie had mustered the entire domain and even used the Heavenly Dao Realm to kill the injured Gold Immortals. Of course, this was because the two hadn’t been able to commune with Rosecloud’s core, but regardless, he had watched them die. He hadn’t expected them to appear before him alive once more.
“What’s going on here?” Xu Miaoran said in surprise.
Tang Jie fell into thought, and then he declared, “A Reincarnation art! It must be a Reincarnation art!”
Yu Cheng had mastered all Twelve Great Daos, and Reincarnation was the Dao of the undying. If used properly, it truly could bring the dead back to life.
“But how can one be reincarnated if the Divine Soul was destroyed?” Xu Miaoran asked.
“So their Divine Souls must not have been completely destroyed. After all, these are Boundless Gold Immortals, so even if they had fought against each other and then been slain using the forces of the entire domain, killing them is no easy task.” Tang Jie couldn’t help but sigh.
What truly surprised him was that his avatar’s will had known nothing about this.
In other words, at that time, Yu Cheng already had some means of obscuring his senses but had pretended not to have one. However, it seemed like it wasn’t a particularly easy method to execute, or else Tang Jie would have been even more in the dark.
The fact that Warheaven Wolf’s and Hong Beicang’s revival had been kept a secret all this time meant that Yu Cheng was truly patient.
Now, however, the appearance of the pair was giving Immortal Ji Yao a painful blow.
Immortal Ji Yao had thought that she had seized an opportunity, what with the court being emptied and Yu Cheng apparently too busy with something else. Two extra Gold Immortals had utterly ruined her plans.
In contrast, Tang Jie wasn’t surprised. In his view, Yu Cheng had to have had something up his sleeve.
Just because Immortal Ji Yao had tricked Tang Jie before didn’t mean that she was smarter than him. Sometimes, it was just a matter of the player in the game being unable to see the entire picture.
Tang Jie had been this player in the Verdant Cloud Domain, but now, it was Immortal Ji Yao’s turn.
Immortal Ji Yao and the God Phoenix army went from rampaging one second to being in great peril the next.
Immortal Ji Yao’s peril also affected the demons battling on the other end of the battlefield.
Wang Yao cursed, “Just as you said, that foolish woman would waste most of the troops on the court’s formation in order to loot the place for herself, and now she’s surrounded. What an idiot!”
Nine Disaster remained composed. “I never expected much of her anyway. Immortal Ji Yao’s preparations were too hasty while Yu Cheng had far too much time to prepare. There was no way she could pose much of a threat to him. I just didn’t expect her to not even be able to force him out.”
Wang Yao was confused.
Like Immortal Ji Yao, he had also appeared here for revenge, but because of his relationship with Tang Jie, he couldn’t be as straightforward with his revenge, even having to temporarily put aside Rosecloud to deal with the court. For this reason, his understanding of both the court and Nine Disaster were limited.
“Who is this ‘him’ you’re talking about?”
Nine Disaster simply sighed. “Keep watching and you’ll find out.”
“‘Keep watching’?” Wang Yao angrily said, “You’re still in the mood to watch? Can’t you see our forces being massacred?”
Wang Yao hadn’t been wasting time while Immortal Ji Yao was attacking the court. Yu Cheng had not called back his army, so the court’s forces were still assailing the demons from all sides.
Despite their battle being in the void, the exchange of arts by so many Immortal Platform experts meant that this place had long since ceased to be an absolute void. Instead, there were mountains rising and falling, oceans and rivers, storms of yellow sand, blizzards and frost, as if someone was trying to create a world. But while these powers were vast and majestic, they were a motley and chaotic lot, and most importantly, they clashed.
Mountains were raised and obliterated, waves rose and fell. Matter was created in the void and returned to the void.
Everything was temporary. Anything could appear, just so it could be ground into dust a moment later.
But this was undoubtedly a major test for the demons.
With their prodigious strength, they could still hold, but the Immortal armies seemed to have an endless reserve of power, and if they kept pushing, the demons would eventually collapse.
In truth, many of the devils were starting to reach their limits, dying and being reborn. Though it was just a single rebirth, it was a sign that they were on the verge of collapse.
This was why Wang Yao was so anxious.
Nine Disaster was completely unconcerned, muttering, “I planned for ten thousand years for this day. For this great goal, even everyone here dying would be worth it.”
“Shut your mouth! Your great goal is not my great goal. If any more of my people die, I’ll just take my people and leave!”
His retreat path had already been cut off, so he couldn’t withdraw even if he wanted to, but he didn’t care. In truth, he could force himself to use his Dao Art and leave with his subordinates, though it would come at a great price.
Nine Disaster was somewhat taken aback, and after some thought, he said, “Ah well. Three Sages Ancestor, please take action. We can’t stall things out forever.”
The voice of the Three Sages Ancestor rang out. “I was hoping to force out Yu Cheng’s hidden card, but it seems like we can’t afford to wait that long.”
As he spoke, another fissure opened in the distance, and countless cultivators surged out of it.
They were led by Wu Antian, Godhead Guangfa, and the Illusory Demoness, the three surviving Gold Immortals from the attempted assassination of Yu Cheng.
(TN: The author has seemingly forgotten that he killed off Wu Antian in Chapter 1163. It was the Ageless Child who escaped with Godhead Guangfa and the Illusory Demoness, and he was subsequently killed off-screen in Chapter 1164.)
Behind them, a Titan radiating dazzling holy light appeared: the Three Sages Ancestor.
Scarlet Pine roared, “Three Sages Ancestor, you’re colluding with the demons!?”
The Three Sages Ancestor replied, “You are all going against the heavens and so must be punished. The cosmos is vast, but whether it’s with the humans or demons, the positive plane or negative plane, there is no place for you.”
“Is that so? Since neither humans nor demons, positive nor negative, will take them, then let me!” a voice rang out.
Everyone was stunned by this voice.
Turning in its direction, they saw a majestic light erupting from the court, and from that light, a single person strode out.
Upon seeing this person, Wang Yao, the Three Sages Ancestor, and even Tang Jie were stunned.
