Aspiring to the Immortal Path

Chapter 1209: Detection

The Vast Wilderness Continent.

The Immortal Crane Divine State, the Sky Burial Plains.

A cultivator war had erupted here.

A vast army of demons was battling, countless times larger than the one that had invaded the Rosecloud Domain. Of low-level demons alone, there were billions upon billions.

While they lacked strength, they had sheer numbers, coming in mighty wave after wave, a neverending storm.

Above them were the elite demons. The variety of demons was much greater than that from back in the Rosecloud Domain, with almost all the upper half of the Demon Codex represented.

Bloodthirst Maniacs, Trihead Blood Demons, Dark Reapers, Unicorn Berserkers, Skywrecker Husks, Scythe Ifrits, Boneless Desire Demons, Bloodsucker Banshees, Plague Demons… Various kinds of demons organized into armies roared and bellowed as they swung their weapons, their killing intent sweeping over the battlefield.

But the true terrors were the high-tier devils, the devil chiefs, and the Arch- and Lesser Demon Lords. In the purple-black skies, several hundred thousand high-tier devils rushed out, and following them were tens of thousands of devil chiefs, thousands of Lesser Demon Lords, and several dozen Archdemon Lords, many of them at the Boundless Gold Immortal level.

These devil Titans unleashed their powers, causing meteors and flames to rain down from the heavens.

All of them were using the same Divine Connection, meteors wreathed in flames crashing down from on high, filling the air with the smell of sulfur. Anyone facing this deluge would feel like there was nowhere to run.

But this demoralizingly enormous army was losing.

Countless cultivators had completely encircled it.

Unlike the cultivators of other domains, they were all equipped with standardized armor and weapons. There were one hundred cultivators to a squad, each squad mounted on a cloud. These clouds came in ten-some different colors, with the number of each cloud color ranging from the tens of thousands to the hundreds of thousands. This meant that there were billions of heavenly soldiers.

Above the heavenly soldiers were various giant war chariots, ships, palaces, pagodas and other kinds of flight-type art relics and divine treasures, as well as countless exotic beasts being used as mounts. All of them flew here and there, unleashing their might on the battlefield. Compared to the orderly ranks below, the middle ranks of the cultivator army seemed much more free-spirited, but there was still a hidden order in the chaos. Their comings and goings were not as casual as they appeared.

Even farther up was an Immortal palace large enough to cover half the domain.

An Immortal army was stationed here, the weakest of them at Violet Palace.

From the center of the Immortal palace rose a high platform.

This was the Universal Anchor Platform.

On the platform, Yu Cheng was seated on his nine dragon throne. He had on his Supreme War God Armor, the Fourface Crown of Omniscience, Spaceseal Boots, and his Xuanyuan Sword.

The Fourface Crown of Omniscience gave off a faint glow, and a face grew from the back, left, and right of Yu Cheng’s head, together with his original face giving him four faces, one for each direction. And in the center of each forehead was a Celestial Eye.

As four Celestial Eyes peered into the surroundings, Yu Cheng said, “The Westward Heavenswell Army is advancing too far. Have them slow down so that they do not end up isolated from the others. The Eastern Sea Wolf Army is under attack by a large number of demons. Scarlet Pine, take my Imperial Guard to reinforce them. There is suspicious activity in the northwest. Sage Mother of the West, I must trouble you to go and check. Heavenfrost Army, adjust formation and retreat at once. All Divine Generals, use the Limitless Barrier…”

Boom!

There was a massive explosion in the distance as several dozen Extinction Meteor Divine Connections slammed into the Limitless Barriers, setting off massive shockwaves. Fortunately, the Heavenfrost Army had taken a defensive stance in time, preventing any devastating losses. All this was because Yu Cheng had issued orders in time.

As Yu Cheng’s four faces issued order after order and his twelve eyes gathered information, his mind rapidly processed all the information so as to generate the appropriate response.

The speed of thought and reaction was such that even Tang Jie would have been left in the dust.

The Fourface Crown of Omniscience was a treasure of the Dao of Wisdom, and it massively boosted the thinking speed of the user. Yu Cheng was already a genius, and with a Wisdom Dao armament, it was only natural that he had complete control over the battlefield.

No matter how fearless, wild, and savage the demons were, the army of the court remained steadfast and organized, using order against chaos, discipline against savagery, wisdom against barbarity. They encircled the demons from all sides, wrangling them up and exterminating them.

Demon after demon fell mid-charge, as insignificant as specks of dust.

Suddenly, a giant demon charged out of the battlefield: a towering being with a mighty horn sprouting from its head and a huge warhammer in hand. It let out a roar, sending a sonic wave sweeping through the battlefield. As it collided against the hundred-some clouds at the front, there was a series of explosions, and the barriers around the clouds shattered like eggshells. As the sonic wave swept through, the heavenly soldiers on the clouds died on the spot.

The demon then swung its hammer at an Immortal palace in the sky. The Immortal palace fired off a powerful beam of light, which was shattered on contact with the hammer. Several hundred people then flew out of the palace, their leader thrusting a spear at the demon.

But the demon then drew back the hammer to block the strike and then threw out a punch, sending that Divine General flying.

This Divine General was a True Immortal, so anyone that could send him flying with a single strike could only be a Gold-Immortal-level Archdemon Lord.

“Useless trash!” the Archdemon Lord brazenly roared.

The face Yu Cheng had facing in that direction slightly scowled. A moment later, he stood up and blinked away, appearing behind that Archdemon Lord and swinging the Xuanyuan Sword at him.

The Archdemon Lord reacted quickly, sensing Yu Cheng almost the moment he appeared, and he immediately yelped and activated his escape art.

The boots on Yu Cheng’s feet flashed with the light of the Great Dao, and the Archdemon Lord found that his escape art no longer worked, the surrounding space having been completely sealed. The Xuanyuan Sword chopped down, and the Archdemon Lord screamed as he was slain. The Xuanyuan Sword also dealt damage to his soul, and while a sliver of it survived, revival now became an excruciating task.

Yu Cheng’s boots flashed as he undid the seal and used Nearby Horizon to return to his throne. He then ordered, “The southwest is in crisis. Send the Heavenly Policy Army to their aid. Demon Suppressing Army, adjust formations. Lay down the Blackwater Formation and use Water Divine Connections. Delay the demons as you fall back…”

He continued to command his armies as if the exchange just now had had nothing to do with him, but the throne provided him with a constant stream of Immortal power to restore the energy which he had consumed with that sword strike.

“Yu Cheng, you trickster! Laying down a formation in the Sky Burial Plains and then surrounding us in a vain attempt to destroy my army, do you only know how to use little tricks like this? This is no contest of strength, nor is this the conduct of a hero. If you have the guts, then have a proper fight!” The furious cry of a Demon Lord came from the distance.

“Hmph, you know nothing,” Yu Cheng said in disdain. “I used the Spring and Autumn Scroll and the Wish Granting Book to draw you into the trap, and then I sacrificed three Divine States and endured three years of humiliation, all in exchange for this battle at the Sky Burial Plains. You call that a little trick? You think that is not an expression of my strength? Laughable. Besides, in a proper fight, who among you is a match for me?”

The demons fell silent.

Indeed, even if they went all-out, who in a duel could match Yu Cheng?

“Damn you!” an Archdemon Lord roared. “If my Demon Sovereign hadn’t gone missing, this guy would never be able to act so cocky.”

“What’s the point in saying that now? We should think about how to get out first,” another Archdemon Lord said.

“Trying to leave? We would prefer for you to all stay right here. Ten thousand years ago, We exterminated all of you and charged into the Primordial Fog. In the present, We plan to relive this glory, and all of you…” Before he could finish, he froze, his four faces all turning skyward, the Celestial Eyes shooting out beams of light that probed the heavens.

If one was able to trace this light, one would find that they ended in the deepest depths of the endless void, where the Heavenly Dao Law Wheel turned…

Yu Cheng’s eight eyes narrowed as he muttered, “The core was touched… The core was actually touched. Someone comprehended the concept of domain cores and achieved Gold Immortal? And not just any ordinary core, but the core of a large domain. Who could it be? A Gold Immortal able to communicate on such a deep level with a large domain?”

Yu Cheng was stunned.

As the Rosecloud Domain had never produced a Gold Immortal before and lacked any related legacy, Tang Jie was unaware that his process for achieving Gold Immortal was very different from what others experienced.

Achieving Gold Immortal did require comprehending the core, but there were levels to this comprehension. If one took the many Gold Immortals of the Vast Wilderness Continent and had them communicate with the core, none of them would have been able to instantly cover the entire world with their will as Tang Jie did.

Tang Jie’s guess had been correct that the Gold Immortals of the Vast Wilderness Continent had only established shallow connections when they ascended, so nothing like what Tang Jie had achieved on ascension had occurred with them. But because Tang Jie didn’t know, he had no idea how difficult the feat he had accomplished was.

Achieving a profound connection with a large domain was a feat that many Boundless Gold Immortals could not do. In the entire chiliocosm, only a small few could do this, Yu Cheng among them.

Now, there was one more.

Just who could it be?

This question vexed Yu Cheng.

A person suddenly came to mind, and he muttered, “Could it be him?”
