Chapter 1170: The Start of the Invasion (1)
On the 12th day of the 8th month in Year 427 of Heavenly Primacy, the first real spatial fissure appeared in the Rosecloud Domain.
On this day, 348 demons charged out of this spatial fissure. The strongest was a small hunter demon, with strength equivalent to a Spirit Sea student. The minor sect in charge of the area exterminated them all.
On the 13th day of the 8th month, two more spatial fissures appeared, and more continued to appear with each passing day.
From the 13th of the 8th month to the start of the 9th month, half a month’s time, the number of spatial fissures grew from one to more than three hundred. The largest spatial fissure was three hundred feet long. A large bull-headed demon squeezed out of this spatial fissure, its body covered in black flames as it swung around a chain. It “rampaged” around the area for about five minutes before a Spirit Master arrived on the scene and killed it with his flying sword.
At this time, the demons of Primordial Fog had yet to show any world-conquering strength, but the increasing number of fissures and the stronger and stronger demons already indicated the general trend. It wouldn’t be long before the true terrors arrived.
Month 9, Day 18.
A spatial fissure 180 feet long appeared, from which four Transformation bone demons emerged. As it was in a remote area, the local sect wasn’t strong enough to stop them. It was only half a day later that a medium-sized sect was able to dispatch four True Persons to exterminate them.
Month 9, Day 29: A spatial fissure appeared over the city of Bincheng, and three-thousand-some demons emerged from it. This was the most demons to date. Numerous demons rampaged about the city, and many mortals who had been unwilling to leave their homes and remained in the city were slain, their blood running through the streets in rivers. This was the first city to be massacred in the Rosecloud Domain.
Even though Tang Jie had swiftly activated the Eight Ocean Mountains and exterminated the demon army, there were still devastating losses in the city.
This was Tang Jie’s first time activating the Eight Ocean Mountains, expending 32 spirit stones in a moment.Starting from this day, the demons began to appear in an organized manner, indicating that on the other side of those fissures, the demons had truly begun to gather.
Month 10, Day 7: A spatial fissure 2400 feet long appeared over the Southern Sea, an army of Ifrits charging out of it. Ifrits were ranked 52nd in the Demon Codex, and in terms of combat power, they exceeded the demons ten ranks above them. But they had two fatal weaknesses: they couldn’t fly, and they couldn’t swim.
Two thousand Ifrits plunged into the sea the moment they entered the human world, drowning to death and becoming food for the fishes before they could even fight.
This day was a major human victory.
Month 10, Day 20.
A spatial fissure appeared over the Graymount Mountains in the north, and then it disappeared. Only a single demon emerged from this fissure.
A Blood Demon.
Blood Demons were considered high up in the food chain of the Primordial Fog Domain, a transition between demons and devils. The greatest difference between demons and devils was intelligence. They could think like humans, could study and evolve. Demons had a natural hierarchy which they found extremely difficult to break free of, while devils could cultivate and diversify.
This Blood Demon was at Violet Palace, the first Violet Palace demon to enter the Rosecloud Domain. After entering, it laughed and transformed into a human. Clearly, it understood that it wasn’t strong enough to make waves, so it decided to hide away and stealthily hunt humans.
In normal circumstances, this Blood Demon would have caused huge problems for the humans. In past Primordial Fog Calamities, devil infiltration would cause mass chaos among humans, and humans always had a hard time finding them.
This time, things were different.
Tang Jie sensed the Blood Demon the moment it entered the Rosecloud Domain.
A moment later, a thundercloud appeared over the Graymount Mountains, like a Heavenly Tribulation. Thick lightning bolts slammed down on the unfortunate Blood Demon, and while it was strong enough to last against 18, the 19th slew it.
On this day, the Eight Ocean Mountains was locally activated twice, consuming 148 spirit stones.
Month 11.
Every day, large numbers of spatial fissures appeared in the Rosecloud Domain, some of them even linking together to form larger fissures, and the demons emerging from them grew stronger and stronger.
The Western Desert, Skywaste Ridge, noon.
This was a silent mountain ridge, with no one around for kilometers.
A ball of light suddenly appeared over the ridge.
It was the size of a fist at first, growing larger and larger until it became a door of light.
This door of light intensely flickered before finally stabilizing, and an endless darkness appeared beyond it.
A large number of demons walked through the door.
This was the first time demons entered through a Spatial Gate rather than a spatial fissure.
The greatest difference between the two was that Spatial Gates were created through the powers of Titans. By exploiting weaknesses in the spatial barrier, powerful devils could create Spatial Gates to move here and there. Their greatest advantage was that one could control where they appeared and not have to worry about running right into the hands of some human Titan.
Compared to the large masses of one type of demons that had appeared before, there was much more variety among these demons, as well as more organization.
These demons didn’t immediately start rampaging about the Rosecloud Domain, but began to cut down trees, mine stone, refine metals, and then build a city.
Meanwhile, some of them went about gathering resources while powerful and intelligent devils began to use these resources to set up a formation around their nascent city.
Yes, devils understood formations. The lack of resources meant that they understood few formations, but in their special environment, devils had their own ways of being creative.
Several weak demons were called over and killed, their blood thick with sulfuric odor exuding demonic energy, serving as the finest material for formations. The formations combined with the city being built served to create a critical fortress for the demons in the human world.
After all, a campaign that was to last a hundred years couldn’t be fought properly without a base.
For this reason, the devil Titans that were part of the first wave would normally choose out-of-the-way locations. Although human cultivators had long ago figured out the habits of devils through millennia of resistance and had countermeasures, keeping an eye on the entire world was a huge task.
Normally, half of the infiltrating devils would successfully set up their fortresses. Although these fortresses would all eventually be destroyed by humans, they accomplished their mission of delaying and scattering the human cultivators.
But this time, the invading devil Titan clearly had rotten luck. Even though it had chosen the remote Skywaste Ridge, it still couldn’t hide from Tang Jie. After all, the Eight Ocean Mountains was a top-class Immortal formation used to sense the core. Any existence not on the same level as Tang Jie couldn’t hope to hide from him.
After only one day, the demon army was wiped out by three large sects.
Tang Jie didn’t use the Eight Ocean Mountains, instead using cultivators to clean them up, and only then did he use the Eight Ocean Mountains, minimizing his costs. As for that devil Titan, the Spatial Gate had been destroyed before it was even large enough to hold it, so it could only stomp in fury at the human world on the other side.
Another half a month passed, and the spatial barrier weakened even more.
More spatial fissures and Spatial Gates appeared around the Rosecloud Domain, their frequency and strength greater than those of any Primordial Fog Calamity the Rosecloud Domain had previously experienced. This was normal. The bigger the world, the stronger it was, and the more demons it had to deal with.
But all the Spatial Gates were all targeted and destroyed by forces under Tang Jie’s command.
According to past experience, the humans should have been frantically running around to deal with the Primordial Fog invasion. Numerous mortals would be killed, resources would be plundered, some cultivators would be slain in battle, and countless demons would be lurking in ambush. At least two fortresses would be completed and four would be under construction. The human world would be in disarray, wails and lamentations ringing out across the land…
But none of this had happened.
The Eight Ocean Mountains’ powerful detection abilities turned all ambushes into laughable and clumsy tactics, and under Tang Jie’s command, the demons were exterminated one after another.
No demon succeeded in their ambush, no fort was successfully established or even under construction, and the human cultivators had suffered almost no casualties.
Numerous devils had disappeared into the Eight Ocean Mountains, transforming into fuel for it to grow.
Month 12.
The peak of Snow Mountain in the north.
A spatial fissure formed.
Two large hands emerged from the fissure, each one the size of a millstone and covered in black scales. With a push, the spatial fissure expanded, indicating not only that the owner of these hands was powerful, but that they had at least entered the Dao of Space.
As the fissure grew larger and larger, a head squeezed its way through, followed by a giant body. Such a massive body indicated that this was a special rare kind of demon, or else a devil that had reached Immortal Platform.
This devil struggled through, its true body so powerful that getting through this spatial fissure was no easy task. And this was only going so swiftly because it had entered the Dao of Space. Any other devil would have an even harder time.
After a period of struggle, the devil had finally squeezed more than half of its body into the Rosecloud Domain. At this point, one could see that this was a lizard-headed devil with a particularly large mouth, its entire body covered in scales.
It grumbled, “The time still isn’t right, and by forcing my way in, if those human cultivators find me, I won’t be able to retreat or advance, and I’ll be finished. They say that there’s something weird about this place and that we need to investigate, but they’re just sending me to my death!”
It grew increasingly worried and tried to get through the fissure even faster.
Finally, only its two legs were left, and it only needed a little more effort.
At this moment, someone asked, “Do you need help?”
The lizard devil froze.
Looking up, it saw three figures there, each one an Immortal.
The lizard devil swallowed, its heart turning cold. “Shit.”
