Chapter 81: Identity Revealed the Internet Loses Its Mind

"Wait am I seeing this right? Unrivaled looks really familiar."

"That jaw that’s Silversong. That’s gotta be Silversong."

"No way. No way is Unrivaled actually Silversong. That’s insane."

"Okay but actually this explains so much.

Why wasn’t Silversong ever on the top swordsman boards after launch?"

"Right? A player with his mechanics should’ve been impossible to miss, even running the worst talent in the game."

"Unless he just... walked away from melee entirely and picked up Beastlord instead."

"Imagine giving up swordplay that clean when you were the best on the server at it. What a waste."

"Waste? The guy’s still the best player on the server. He just proved it running a completely different class. If anything that’s scarier."

"No wonder he’s worn that mask since day one. He knew exactly what would happen the second anyone connected the dots."

Through IntelDrop’s shared perspective, Kael’s true face hit every one of those

hundred-thousand-plus live viewers at once, and the stream’s chat exploded into total chaos within seconds.

The timing made it worse. Unrivaled’s run over the past several days had already dominated every gaming headline on the server first kills, a founded guild, an entire stronghold claimed in a single campaign.

His real identity had become the single hottest open question in the whole Ascension community, debated endlessly across every forum thread dedicated to the game.

Layered on top of that was the other half of the mystery. Silversong the server’s reigning top melee talent before launch had vanished completely the moment his contract with Ironclad Esports terminated.

No trace of him anywhere since. Plenty of theories had floated around assuming he’d simply reentered the game under a fresh identity, but no swordsman anywhere near the top rankings matched his known playstyle.

His old fanbase had mostly written it off as a late start costing him ground he’d eventually claw back.

More than a few threads had gone as far as pitting the two of them against each other hypothetically Silversong’s unmatched melee precision against Unrivaled’s bizarre, seemingly cheat-coded dominance.

Endless speculation about who’d come out on top if Silversong ever caught up in level and the two actually crossed paths.

Now the mystery collapsed in on itself entirely. Two names, both sitting at the absolute top of the server’s hierarchy, turned out to be the exact same person.

Disbelief rippled out first. Then the pieces started clicking into place, one after another, too neatly to argue with.

Why had a player this talented appeared from nowhere with zero prior reputation? Because he hadn’t appeared from nowhere he’d simply stopped being someone the server already knew by a different name.

Why had Silversong, unmatched at everything he touched, vanished the instant Ascension launched? Because Silversong hadn’t vanished. He’d just stopped answering to that name.

Old highlight reels started circulating within minutes, side by side with fresh footage of Unrivaled clearing Legendary bosses solo the same footwork, the same timing, the same instinct for an opening, dressed up in a completely different class the whole time.

Nobody who looked at both side by side could call it a coincidence twice.

The news detonated outward at a speed nothing else that week had come close to matching. Inside ten minutes, it had reached every corner of the server.

Every major forum’s front page, every trending feed on every short-video platform all of it, the same story, repeated a thousand different ways.

A dozen of Ironclad’s core players were mid-fight against a level 36 Legendary boss when the news reached them, and the reaction stopped the raid cold.

"Wait Unrivaled is Kael Mercer? That’s not possible."

"He gave up melee. His best class, and he just walked away from it entirely."

Damian Sterling stood well back from the fight, overseeing the pull from a safe distance, and his expression curdled the moment the news reached him.

"Cynthia Miles, you absolute fool." The words came out low, venomous, equal parts fury and genuine regret. "You drove away the single strongest player this server was ever going to produce."

"He should have been carrying this club’s banner right now. Should have been ours."

Beneath the fury sat something quieter, colder, that he kept carefully off his face.

A few days back, he’d sent men to Kael’s residence looking for exactly this confrontation, and found the place empty.

Thank every god that exists I didn’t actually find him there that day.

If that meeting had happened before tonight’s reveal, with tempers already running hot on both sides there was no version of that encounter that ended well for his side of the table.

Beside him stood Ashley, quiet, composed on the surface in a way that had taken real effort to maintain since her return.

When the news reached her, something in her expression flickered not shock exactly, more a slow, sinking kind of recognition settling into place.

That’s that’s him. That’s actually him.

She’d spent days chasing Unrivaled’s attention, certain she was pursuing someone entirely new, someone whose interest might rebuild everything she’d thrown away.

Every rejection had stung without ever quite making sense to her why would a total stranger turn her down twice, decisively, without hesitation?

It made perfect sense now. He hadn’t been a stranger at all.If I’d known from the start none of this would have happened. I’d never have walked away from him in the first place.

The weight of that landed hard, a slow, nauseating kind of regret settling behind her eyes.

Whatever leverage she’d imagined she was building this entire time had actually been pointed at someone who already knew exactly who she was and had already decided exactly what he thought of her.

Sterling’s hand closed around her wrist before the thought could fully finish forming, grip hard enough to hurt."Log off," he said, voice flat and cold. "Come to my room."

Ashley’s stomach dropped. Whatever composure she’d been holding onto cracked instantly, replaced by something closer to dread.

She knew better than to resist. Not anymore. Not after everything the past several days had already cost her. She nodded, silent, and logged off without another word.

Sterling lingered a moment longer, attention still fixed on the chaos rippling through Ironclad’s own raid chat, when his phone buzzed against his hip an unlisted number, no caller ID at all.

He frowned, answered anyway.

A calm, unfamiliar voice came through the line."Mr. Sterling. I imagine you already know by now Kael Mercer is Unrivaled."

"I know exactly where he is tonight."

"Interested in working together? Let’s reel in this particular fish before anyone else gets the same idea."

Sterling said nothing for a long moment, phone pressed hard against his ear, mind already racing through every possible angle this offer could be coming from.

And every possible way it could go wrong if he said yes to the wrong voice on the other end of an unlisted line, on a night that had already cost him more composure than he cared to admit out loud, to anyone, least of all a stranger with no name attached to the offer.
